Metallics Shadows
Eleven new shades were added to the Tarte Metallics Shadows ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) range last week. I bought them through Tarte, but unfortunately, 8 of the 11 arrived broken, so apologies for the messier photos! (Tarte said they would refund me, and I’ll be repurchasing them but want to go through Ulta/Sephora, in case it happens again, so I can just deal with it in-store. There was no damage to the package, and it was packed fine, so I’m not sure what led to the damage.) Nevertheless, here are photos and swatches:
None of these feel overly unique, but the formula looks great. I may grab the silver to round out my stash.
OMG Christine! Did they just toss your order up in the air and hope it landed at your house? Yikes. The Amethyst I ordered from Tarte came double wrapped in bubble wrap. Revel is on my want list but judging from your swatches, I may also want Downtown and Genie.
It’s very weird – there was no sign that there’d be anything broken at all, and it didn’t seem like it was poorly packaged. My inkling is that the eyeshadows arrived damaged to the warehouse!

The tarte metallics are gorgeous! But seeing as they arrived broken I’ll hold off. I’m waiting for full reviews of all the new tarte stuff before I buy!

Wow, that really tells you something, when 8 out of 11 shades arrive broken! Even from ordering from their own site domestically!
These look quite good….let’s just hope they won’t be online only or Tarte exclusives. That would lead to a js type breakage debacle and all kinds of furor. Should be popular. Even the blue is decent. Nice issue.
Downtown and Dark Seas look nice, though they’re not unique shades. Amethyst and Jade are pretty, but I wish they had a richer base or maybe a brighter sheen. I was curious how these would compare to the new palette they just released. I bought that, and though the shades are pretty, I wish they all had richer bases because the sheen overwhelms the base colors and end up making them look a little pastel on my fair skin. I’ll wait for your reviews before picking up any of these!
Also, I forgot to comment that it’s pretty sad that 8 out of your 11 shadows came broken. Were they not packaged well? I’ve never ordered from Tarte before, but if this is any indicator of how they package their shipments, I don’t think I will.
The box had no exterior or visible damage, and everything seemed to be packed fine – even the eyeshadow boxes were in pristine shape! My guess is they actually arrived damaged to the warehouse vs. damaged en route to me (it also went overnight, so it did not sit in transit as long!).

Ordered some original shades from Sephora yesterday (because I looked at your swatches of the original shades and instantly fell in love) and then I saw yours broken! I prayed hard that mine will be safe. Thankfully the packaged arrived safely.
Love the formula! now waiting for Jaded to be available here.
Gorgeous, but I wonder how soft these are if they can shatter so easily?
I don’t recall having issues with the first set of shades they released, though those were housed in plastic compacts (these are in cardboard) – oddly, cardboard usually absorbs impact better! No idea what happened with these at all.
Go figure — I threw/dropped one (by accident, lol) that WAS intact, and I was like, “Oh, great” but it was totally fine, so I’m not sure if it’s really fragile!
Wow, they look so pretty and swatched well. It’s a bummer they arrived broken! Do you usually try to fix them (how??) or just throw them out? One of my faves from MUFE broke after I dropped it and ended up just throwing it away 🙁
If it was one, I’d just throw it away after testing it, but with eight, I don’t think that’s reasonable for me to absorb. Tarte said they’d refund me, and I’m going to repurchase later on (with so many of them broken but no damage to the package itself nor did it seem poorly packed, I’m not sure what’s going on).
Oh great! I have 7 of the originals, which are buttery smooth and crazy pigmented. If these are anywhere near as good, looks like I will need about 7 of the new ones.
I wish these came in the original style packaging. There are definitely a couple of shades that want.
Downtown and Genie are my favorites, I love them! It’s nice to see more non-neutral offerings from tarte!
They are not wowing me, certainly look better when I see the individual swatches zoomed in; but otherwise, seem rather typical shade and texture wise to lots I have seen before. Neither am I impressed with the cracked shadows. They are not something I would be rushing out to purchase.
Downtown is gorgeous, and I’m also loving Jaded and Grommet. The fact that so many are damaged is really concerning though. I buy everything online in order to use rebate sites and I wouldn’t want to receive broken shadows…
None of these look very metallic but I like most of them!

Genie and Downtown could make for one bangin’ hot smoldering summer smokey eye! Pairing them with black , of course!
But, one has got to wonder whether these are a particularly fragile formula or a looser press, though. Or just very mishandled in the warehouse.
I’ve got to say, I was pretty excited for these but the swatches are fairly lackluster for metallics, in my opinion. With the exception of maybe Downtown and Dark Seas (which is stunning), they don’t have that foiled look I’d expect from metallics. For the price, I think I’m going to have to stick with the MUG foileds!
I like Downtown. I’m sorry to see so many of these arrived broken.
I love those reds and coppers but if they contain carmine, I’ll be passing on them.
Revel looks pretty for a blush!
Amethyst is just beautiful, and Clueless also calls to me. And Vintage, though I think the Viseart Minx gold/copper will be a dupe and I do have that.
I love the look of these!! I really, really love Tarte products and they wear great on me so I’ll definitely be checking them out.

I’m all over the Tarte Revel eyeshadow!! I have bought from Tarte online and nothing has been broken. Everything was packed nicely and with loads of bubble wrap!!
I had so much trouble ordering from the last release too, and that was for sephora! I had to send things back three times since no one carried anything IN store nearby!
I noticed you said you would be ordering from ulta or sephora… are they going to be carrying these? I checked sephora’s website when that palette was released and I saw no sign of these singles…
as much as I like this formula, (and am really hoping the palette is surprisingly amazing!) these look pretty dupeable– except jaded! I’m kinda drooling over that shade! ?
I’m not sure! Ulta had three of the new shades (which I’ve already since purchased) when I looked this morning – but oddly, they have a very small selection of shades.
Augh. Jaded and Dark Seas look stunning, and exactly up my alley. It’s a shame these bold jewel tones didn’t make it into the new palette release!
Five of the seven I ordered arrived broken, which gave me a chance to see how super-thin the layer of shadow is in the pan. I was kind of surprised, but then remembered it’s not like I ever finish a shadow, anyway, so it’s not as much of an issue (also, while I like some of the colors a lot, none are the kind that I said, ‘I can put this with anything and it’ll look good’, so I doubt I’ll hit pan no matter how little there is. Like yours, my package appeared to have been prepared carefully.
When I called, they asked me for photos and the ‘batch codes’, so maybe they’re having this problem across the board? I did check against yours, and all five of mine are ones of yours that were broken, too.
They asked me photos, which is par for the course with Tarte (I’m not keen on that policy).
But yeah, to have 8 of 11 arrive broken without any visible damage to the original box nor the individual eyeshadow boxes suggests there’s a bigger issue (which is why I decided not to pursue an exchange).

Downtown,Revel,Jaded,and Dark Seas are my favorites!I love the original Metallics from Tarte I have all of them except the gold and white and I put them all into a Tarte leopard Z palette that they sell and I use them all the time.I think I want most of theses but I’ll wait until there is a discount.Looking forward to your reviews!!
