Fall Makeup Trend: Opaque Lipgloss
Korres Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, water-based liquid lipstick that should appeal to lipgloss and lipstick lovers alike. It’s a very thin formula, and it is incredibly easy to apply. The color is absolutely opaque in a single layer–this is not something you need to layer or use much of at all. The formula also contains “natural raspberry and pomegranate extracts” as the included antioxidants to “protect against free-radical damage and smooth lip lines.”
My lip lines were certainly less noticeable, but I couldn’t say if it was ingredient based for sure–I think the richness of the color and the glossiness of the formula both contributed to the fuller, smoother lip look I had when I wore these. Given that the swatches are taken within seconds of application, I think I’d attribute those immediate results to the pigmentation and finish.
- #25 Natural is a medium coral that leans neither pink nor orange. It’s opaque, and it has a nice glossiness to it. It has an almost imperciptible touch of white shimmer underneath it.
- #28 Berry is a brightened fuchsia-red with warm white micro-shimmer. This is incredibly opaque, and though it is bright, it is also a darker shade.
- #30 Nude Beige is a browned nude with subtle white micro-shimmer and nearly opaque color. It feels almost cool, but it has significant brown, and perhaps even peach, undertones, so it should work well for both cool and warm skin tones.
- #54 Fuchsia is a bright fuchsia pink with the same imperceptible shimmer that was in #25. It is a pinker version of #28 Berry–they look surprisingly similar, though this shade is obviously brighter and lighter. It reminded me of a pinker version of Illamasqua Follow.
- #56 Red is a bold and bright tomato red with subtle white micro-shimmer. This is the most opaque shade of the five, though they’re all rather opaque. This has a stronger orange undertone, so those who prefer more blue-based reds may not find this to their liking.
These have a vanilla mint kind of scent to them; not exactly the most appealing scent to my nose, but it doesn’t linger. The Liquid Lipsticks also have a slight cooling/tingling sensation–it’s not a burning or stinging feeling. It’s just that minty tingling you’d get with any mint-based product (gum, toothpaste, lip gloss…). I found the cooling sensation dissipated within five to ten minutes, and it really wasn’t strong to begin with (which I think is a good thing, personally!).
It’s a thin formula that’s very lightweight, and it wears for a solid four hours or so. I didn’t notice too much staining, despite the richness of colors, which may be a good or bad thing, depending on your tastes!
It definitely seems like opaque gloss may be a major trend for the fall season. MAC’s Dare to Wear Lipglasses are supposed to be intensely pigmented, while Guerlain and Chanel appear to be launching similarly opaque, richly colored glosses during fall/winter.

RECOMMENDATION: If you like rich, opaque lip color and love the feel of lip gloss over lipstick, this is a great product for you. The shade range is-overall–a little bold, but there are still two everyday shades available (#25 and #30).

I love Korres! Which of their lipstick formulas (this, the mango, or the guava) is your favorite?
This, but I like opaque color 🙂 Guava is also really nice, but they skimp on the quantity.
Sorry to butt in, but mango is my favourite (although I haven’t tried these) I found the guava quite drying whereas the mango ones are lovely and slick but still give good colour =]

54 and 28 look quite similar! and the effect looks the same as illamasqua intense ligloss. I love the 25 on you but would have liked a plum colour for fall (we call it autumn but i’ll speak your language here! LOL!). Overall though the look nice quality!
I just got this lippie in Natural & Nude Beige and I had to send the Natural back, as it was just a little too dark. I like the Nude Beige quite a bit, but I will say that on my NW25 skin, it looks significantly darker than it does on you, Christine. That being said, it’s a lovely product; opaque, pleasant consistancy and long wearing.

The concept reminds me of those Full Buxoms by Bare Escentuals, i think they described them as liquid lipstick, they are incredibly pigmented full coverage colors with a lipgloss aplication

So these stay tacky like a gloss, rather than drying down like a MAC PLW? I’d be worried about smearning something so opaque over my face somehow during the day!
They’re not sticky, but they do stay wet. They feel more like a really creamy lipstick with a slick of gloss. But it’s definitely not the dryness of PLW!

That #28 is really really pretty, but the vanilla mint scent and the minty tingling don’t sound all that appealing. Pretty swatches though 🙂

Just a quick Q, is Korres one of the “organic” ingredients type brands? I’m just curious, because it looks like it could pass for a non-organic brand easily 🙂
I think their stance is more natural than necessarily organic – but since Korres has been around for awhile and didn’t start in the U.S. (Greece, I believe), I’m less inclined to believe they were just trying to be trendy about it.

the first years it had only cremes,hair products etc…and the last years launched make up line!!:):)
idk if they are organic…but they are natural..korres started as an owner of an omiopathetic and herbal pharmacy!!so,he started creating cremes etc many years ago with only natural products as herbals!!

Love the colours-but I’m scared they will be too bold or dark on me… And I think the lighter ones will look more unoticeable than noticable. The colours are either to much or too little for me…:(

Honestly, ANY of them would work!
I think I’ll be getting #25 and #30, I want more shades since I’m fair olive anything to bright looks forced.
I was really looking forward to these, as Korres makes up the majority of my lip products; I can even handle their lip gloss (and I usually detest glosses).
However, I sent both of the colors I ordered back to Korres: I think it was #56 and #25. #25 was a nice MLBB shade, but the #56 was too cool for my coloring.
The biggest problem I had with them was excessive migration. I looked like an extra from “House on Haunted Hill” after one hour’s wear. Beware those of you with dry skin, this will not stay on your lips. 🙁

Wow… I have to say that I’m surprised. I’ve always heard these described as “opaque” and always thought they were opaque— but they look soooo different on me. Still, I love them. I have extremely fair skin with pink lips. Normally nude lipsticks make me look ghastly, but Nude Beige 30 is actually really nice- on me it looks more mauve-ish (which is a bad description because I normally hate mauve), so that’s good since I don’t have your pretty golden skin.

@JessicaLight I’m really not sure! I haven’t heard much from Korres in the past couple of years! I do believe they’ve done some revamping of their line, so it’s possible.
