MAC In the Groove Collection: Mineralize Blush Duos

In the Groove features five different blush duos, and there is a good range of colors in the collection. Happy Together and Hang Loose are the most wearable of the five, while A Little Bit of Sunshine and Band of Roses are the most pigmented and should be used with a light hand or stippling brush. New Vibe is a bit more of a glittery mix than the others, which have more luminous/soft satin sheens.

  • A Little Bit of Sunshine is an orange-y bronze duo — it features a shimmery orange-copper with a frost finish paired with a orange-toned medium brown with a satin finish. Together, they blend to create a muted orange-brown with soft sheen. It would better suit warmer skin tones, just because it does run rather orange. On my skin, it turns a little orange and definitely needs to be buffed out and used lightly.
  • Happy Together contains gilded champagne and peach-brown, and together they create a soft champagne-peach. Very luminous. I think this works well on warm skin tones for a little glow–more as a highlighter than intensely pigmented blush, though. It looks like a subtle bronzer on my skin. I think that you can go lighter/darker with ease, since you just have to focus on one half of the duo.
  • New Vibe is a duo that features a satin-y raspberry pink and shimmery bright copper with microglitter. When swirled together, they create a muted raspberry shade. I don’t really like the way they come together–it’s kind of muddy, even when worn. It’s not as pigmented as the other shades, too, when mixed.
  • Hang Loose is a mix of slightly cool-toned baby pink with a satin sheen and a frosted pale lilac with a white sheen. Together, they blend into a subtle shimmery pink–imparts some color on cheeks with enough build-up and concentration on the pinker side, but it’s very shimmery. It’s a very cool-toned, baby doll pink on my cheeks, but it does deliver a surprising amount of color. Again, you have to use the pink side more than the shimmery lilac side to get decent color pay off on cheeks.
  • Band of Roses features a played down fuchsia pink and darkened raspberry pink, both with more satin-y finishes. They create a pinker raspberry shade when blended together. It’s very pretty when worn, but it’s also incredibly easy to over-do it. Use a light hand with this one!

I did, however, finally figure out why mineralize blushes and skinfinishes don’t work so well with my skin–dimethicone is the third or fourth ingredient–and my arch nemsis! At least I know feel like I have a handle on it, even if it makes me sad that I won’t be wearing these much.

I love the way it looks but somehow I think it will look sallow on deeper yellow based skin (NC 44 like). What do u think Christine?

Katie Avatar

I can really see that this was made for warm tones, but do you think that you could photograph yourself wearing it? I’m curious to see what it looks like on the face. Thanks!

Hannah Avatar

omg! Christine you seriously are the best and it’s amazing that you’re willing to drop everything to get the new collections up on the blog… ok, random comment but I just wanted to express that I’m very appreciative that you take this blog so seriously (and I’m sure most other readers agree)

t_zwiggy Avatar

I really like the orange half of this. Not so sure about the brown part, though. Bright oranges look really good on my skintone, but mixed with brown it will probably be muddy and weird. Looks like the shimmer particles are really big as well, and I’m not a huge fan of chunky glitter.

Anita Avatar

Christine! Thanks for posting this. Can you help compare to the “Chic Couple” MB released earlier this year? Thanks. 🙂

Julie Avatar

Looks pretty! But I didn’t expect this to be so orange. I was thinking of using this as a highlight (I’m NW45)…I think it might be too orange on me?

Julie Avatar

Ah, I see! Hmmm…I’ve never tried a coppery/orange blush before…This shall be interesting when I try it out at the counter. TY!

Leesha Avatar

I think that with a light hand and good blending, this could be really pretty for Fall. I mean, I’m really pale, but I’d have a go with it!

aida Avatar

I have it and it is lovely, orangey yes but it can be toned down a bit to suit almost anyone…or maybe I go around being too orange jejejje

Opheliana Avatar

I love the bronzy color, but with my paler then white skin I don’t think I would be able to wear it. If I would actually buy it I think I’d be more likely to wear it as an eyeshadow then blush.
I think it would look lovely on tanned skin though

Angie Avatar

not again! i still have so many mineralise blush duos from the too fabulous collection! definitely skipping this and spend my bucks on the alice and olivia collection

Bel Salemme Avatar

I’m a C3, and I have a heavy hand, so I’d probably end up looking somewhere in between a carrot and Donatella Versace, so maybe I should pass on this one =P But I already have two blushes of the “in the groove” collection in my wishlist – hang loose and happy together (L) I’m a big fan of the softer tones cause if I eventually put too much on, I won’t look (much) like a clown =X

JayJay Avatar

Hang Loose is SO PRETTY! I find Mineralize blushes in the past made my pores look huge.

Christine, or anyone that has these already, Do they exaggerate your pores at all?

JayJay Avatar

Thank you for replying so quickly!

I’ll have to play with it tomorrow when I go to get some Digi Pops! Right now, I’m doubtful I’ll get it, but the more I look at it, the more I want it!

BTW, I’m feeling kind of overwhelmed with all the releases this week. But, I guess after a month of pretty much nothing..

Michelle M Avatar

Hi Christine!! I am obsessed with your site I’m on it constantly. You have the best swatches out there=) I was just wondering I have an NC20 skintone & I love Band of Roses but do you think that it would look good with my pale skin?

Jazz Avatar

New Vibe is actually my favorite on you. I think I will wait , and if they still have this collection 2 weeks from now ( which they likely will , I will get maybe a msf and a blush)

vanessa Avatar

wow i wasn’t even interested at all for these blushes..but now that i see them on your face i love them!!! what brush do you use to apply your blush christine?

Ashley Avatar

I am so getting New Vibe and Hang Loose! Christine, what lip colours are you wearing on your lips? They look really pretty on you~! I was just wondering, how you would wear the coppery colour in New Vibe and the light lavender colour in Hang Loose?

Shasta Avatar

How does Band of Roses Mineralize Blush Duo compare to Full Fuchsia and Azalea Blush? Which is most pigmented? Which one looks best on darker (NC50) skin tone?

Melissa Avatar

You look cute! The first blush, A Little Bit of Sunshine, is super bright but you pull it off well. I really like Hang Loose! That’ll probably be the one I end up getting.

Madeline Avatar

Hmm, I was really lemming for Hang Loose ever since we got word of this collection, but now I think it might be way too shimmery for my oily skin. What would you suggest for a super pale (NW10-15ish) girl Christine?

kenneth alan Avatar

Ooh I love the Hang Loose Mineralize Blush Duo. I have really light pale skin and I’m obsessed with shiny highlights with no glitter.

Elle Avatar

I love Band of Roses (fine, I love the name too) and New Vibe on you. Thank you for putting up these swatches/looks so quickly!!

Sharon M Avatar

Band of Roses is very pretty (and the only one that would suit my skin tone) and I need a new blush, but they all look very shimmery, which is a no-no on my “mature” skin… hmmm. Will definitely check it out, anyway. Thank you for posting these swatches!!

Jessi Avatar

I wouldn’t worry too much about mature skin – applied with a stippling brush, even the really shimmery MBs can give a gorgeous glowing effect. Really perks up dried up, lifeless skin. I was afraid of them too, but got Sun & Moon, Rhapsody In Two and Bi-Tone this year and was totally converted (I get massive compliments every time I wear Bi-Tone!)

This time out, I’m getting Hang Loose, Band of Roses and probably New Vibe as a backup for my beloved Bi-Tone.

Daniela Avatar

MAC Hang Loose Mineralize Blush Duo looks amazing on you Christine!

One quick question: what are you wearing on your lower waterline?

cmferret Avatar

thanx so much christine! love hw u added the full photo- so we can actually see what it looks like on the cheecks.
now that u started doing the lips and cheecks full photos- can u please startto do a sweep of the e/s on the eyes next tiem=thanx!

SiaM Avatar

Christine you look so pretty, so fresh, thank you for all the effort of swatching all of these =) I wish I could also use these but my skin is also very sensitive to them.

B.cole Avatar

i purchased band of roses…but now i am contemplating grabbing happy together. I am an NC50 and I think it will be gorgeous on my skin.

LittleOne Avatar

Quick question – How do you feel Hang Loose compares to Two Virtues?
Thanks again for the awesome reviews, Christine! 🙂

stef Avatar

what lipstuff do you have on for the last two?? so pretty!

I have new vibe on my list, but i’m thinkin of changing it to band of roses..im nc15.

Rocio Avatar

hey christine i just wanted to say thank you for taking the time for the picture, you even took pictures with the blush on ur face, i really appriciate it. thanks!

Bren Avatar

I was planning on not spending any more $$$ but this is too tempting.

BTW: Christine, what lipstick are you wearing in the pics with New Vibe & Happy Together? Its gorgeous!

(& you look so much like Olivia Munn!)

Maria Avatar

I literally went “Oh my GOD” out loud when I scrolled down to Hang Loose. Thought I could resist these but now I’m not so sure.

Ophelia Avatar

Hey Christine! Quick question — do you follow the MAC definition for warm and cool skintones, or do you use the opposite like most other companies?

I love Happy Together, but didn’t know which definition of warm skin you corresponding your review to!

Thanks!

Jessi Avatar

I LOVE Bi-Tone from Too Fabulous. New Vibe seems like the rose part is less shimmery but the bronze side is much more shimmery that Bi-Tone. Any other noticeable differences between these two?

linda Avatar

the pics of you wearing the blushes really help me determine which ones im liking and gonna get! thanks for putting up those pictures!

Steph2 Avatar

Thank you for these great photos Christine! I ordered Band of Roses, Hang Loose and Happy Together. I am an NC15, and I hope that Happy Together doesn’t turn orangey on me. Blushes tend to do that on me.

Cat Avatar

Christine- If i have moon river from grand duos a couple years back do you think i need to get hang loose? I am having car issues and cant buy much, I am just getting the stand outs of this collection but i cannot decide on hang loose….

jessica Avatar

Thank u!! wow..its pretty with the blush!! I ordered the blush yesterday when I saw ur swatches..it was so helpful! I might get the l/s now to but I will look at it in the store

aradhana Avatar

i love band of roses and hang loose on you!

both band of roses and new vibe do not at all look on the full face as i would expect from the pan and even your hand swatches (in a good way!)

MandiMomof3 Avatar

Christine-You said you are allergic to dimethicone in the MSF’s. What does your skin do that makes you think your allergic? I am trying to figure out if I am since my skin gets kinda itchy when I use certain products.

Jessica Avatar

If you haven’t said it already, what are you wearing on your lips in the little bit of sunshine and happy together photos if you don’t mind? Sorry if you already said it. Thanks so much!

Petra Avatar

Does anyone have a suggestion for something similar to Happy Together? In the store I found Warm Sould to be similar but more shimmery, By Candlelight to be more pinky and even found Margin kind of similar, but more orangey…
I would love something without too much shimmer and similar in tone (HT has sold out here unfortunately)

Fleur Avatar

I bought Hang Loose and Band of Roses myself. Really happy about the buy and couldn’t wait to get home so I could try them out. Really really lovely color and nice pigment and also perfect for my very pale pale skintone but I have t obe careful with the Band of Roses, because it has a tendance to get too heavy on my cheeks. So fun to play around with them and find right combinations. The light shimmery side of Hang Loose works as a highlighter on its own for me and my paleness. I used a hint of it as a higlighter while I used a mix of the Band of Roses as a blush a little bit away from my apples. I could also use the light lilac side of Hang Loose as a eyeshadow, but the pigment is not showing up too much so only as a highlighter then or in an barly there-look.

Eyeris Avatar

Hey Cristine do you think that hang loose is like pink swoon? Also i wanted to ask you if the MSF By candelight and the pink pearl are similiar?

Sasha Avatar

hey 😀 love ur reviews! just one Question, is “Band of roses” duo blush similar to “petticoat” MSF?? in picture it looks pretty similar when it’s worn ,

Ava Dahl Avatar

Ahh, I need help! I’ve completely fallen for Happy Together and I need a permanent alternative! I’m not as worried about the champagne highlight as I am the blush. Any help would be appreciated!

melisa Avatar

Wow, I LOVE this blog for these new colors… I love how u not only swatch it on ur hands but u include how it looks like on ur face, I know that takes a lot of time, so i appreciate that soo much. BUT IT HELPS so much in what the colors really look like and now i know what to get… Please keep this up!!!

Emma Avatar

is there a different New vibe blush that maybe didnt come out with this collection? i have never owned any MAC before, but i recently bought New Vibe off of ebay, and it is almost a camouflage pattern of a peach / coral and a bronzy colour

Gemini14 Avatar

@Christine : A huge doubt. I have Dusky skin, more on the tan side. Do u think new vibe will be perfect for my sin. I already have a bronzer i want something different. thanks xxx
