Tarte Pin-up Metallics Shadow
Tarte Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new, limited edition formula (boo!hiss!) that is available in 11 shades. Each eyeshadow comes in an oversized plastic compact with a clear lid, but the eyeshadow pan is actually removable; the only downside is that the pan itself isn’t labeled, so if you move yours into a freestyle palette system, I would make sure to add labels to the bottoms! The formula is soft, smooth, slightly dense, and very pigmented; a little went a long way, but it wasn’t so soft that it turned powdery or had a lot of fall out to contend with, though there was a little excess kicked up in the pan. They were very blendable and easy to apply to bare skin, and I didn’t notice a difference in payoff or texture when applied over primer or over bare skin. The formula wore between seven and eight hours for me (no primer). I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency and pigmentation of the new formula; I’m disappointed it’s limited edition, and it would been even better if there were more unique shades released as well. I am also a huge fan of them being easy to pop out!
There’s not much information about these posted on Tarte’s website, and in their email newsletter, it just mentioned “highly-pigmented,” but given that they typically advertiser their formulas (for eyeshadows) as long-wearing, I did test without primer for consistency. I’ll check back as I continue to review other shades to see if they make additional claims/updates.
Tarte Pin-up Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is an iridescent, white gold with warm undertones and a pinky-peach sheen. It turned rather warm-toned when I applied it to my lid, but it appeared whiter when I initially swatched it–but then it was whiter when I patted it on my lower lash line as well! I find it to be a chameleon on.

Hooray! I’ve been waiting for these to be swatched am excited they did so well. I have my eyes on so many of the shades! Not thrilled they’re limited edition though… do you happen to know how long they’ll be available for purchase?
Usually LE means until it sells out or the next season is getting stocked, but that can just depend on the brand on how long they’ll try to sell a LE product before taking it off the shelves/website.
Shake Down is my favorite out of the three. Love TF Creme Brulee!
Yay!
I am in such serious trouble with these already….I thought I could forego Pin-up but then I did a swatch comparison with Posh Pedigree #1 from MAC, which is a shade I just adore and fear using up. They are REALLY similar so I am now 3 for 3 with the shadows shown in the grouping. Sigh….
….and I just checked the complete Dupes list and see you have it in that list at 95%. Okay, so now I totally have to possess it!
I have a feeling you will like this formula, Mariella!
I keep telling myself I have enough neutrals , but I still want them all! Sigh. And why LE????? With the exception of a holiday palette and the Rainforest one, I don’t like Tarte’s palettes (repetitive colors, mattes are dry dusty), so I was really excited to see singles, and these are some of the best shadows I’ve seen from them. I think I’m going to have to pick up at least one from this collection, so will check my stash for dupes
I wish they weren’t LE 🙁
I agree, Katherine T. When I got my first Tarte palette (Tarte for Aqualilies), I liked the eyeshadows in it so much I wanted to buy a few of them as singles and was surprised to see that they didn’t actually have any single and permanent eyeshadows. So to read that these are LE – well, it just seems foolish. I wonder if they will decide to make them permanent if they sell really well (which means we all have to do our best to ensure high sales!)
LOL, absolutely 😉
Why on earth would they make an entire formula LE? I hope and kind of assume that if these do well, Tarte will add them to the permanent lineup. Personally, I’d love to see these in a palette (is anyone surprised? 🙂 )
I guess they’re taking a page outta MAC’s book!
Boo, hiss indeed!
That’s what I was thinking too, Christine – both Mega Metal and Starflash were such amazing formulas and both were LE. At least they saw sense with the In Extra Dimension formula and finally made some of those permanent but unlike Tarte, at least MAC has a vast collection of permanent shadows available.
I have been really disappointed with brands making so many things LE lately. It’s almost like they have to create such a buzz and then not make enough so that the next time they have a LE item, more people will buy it so they don’t feel like they missed out on anything.
It’s just beyond annoying. The whole Sweet Peach palette with Too Faced really turned me a bit jaded. LOL!
I completely agree!
I need the whole collection ! Will Sephora carry them ? If yes, do you know when ? Thaaanks !
I believe so, but Tarte didn’t send me any official info!
You sure do look great in bronze. I might have to steal this eye look — giving you credit, of course! 🙂
Aw, thank you Chris!
How similar are these to the Rainforest of the Sea palette shadows? I really like those and am hoping Tarte puts out more with that formula.
They aren’t the same formula, sorry!
They look so pigmented! I love the finish, it doesn’t look over-the-top metallic, but very luminous. I think it could look flattering on me (not always the case with metallic finish).
They have a very nice finish tot hem!
I am so angry at Tarte for making these gorgeous eyeshadows LE!!! Aaarrrgghh!!!
That said, I must at least get Pin-Up. A dupe for KVD Thunderstruck? Yes please and thank you, ma’am!
Gotta say, I really love how these 3 shades work together so seamlessly, they just meld with eachother perfectly!
Yes! They are very similar.
I find grind quite attractive out of the lot! <3
Awesome!
I’m glad these scored well. I’m happy to hear the pans are removable.
It’s nifty! I wish the whole compact was smaller, but I’ll take removable pans over a smaller compact!
Wow, these are pretty! I’m not a huge fan of Tarte shadows, but these seem worth a try. I love the simple/classic look you did with Shakedown. What do you have on the lower lash line?
Wanted to add that I like the Rainforest of the Sea palette, so have had success with some Tarte shadows. 😉
I think their regular formula is okay – the shimmers are nicer but a lot of the mattes/satins need primer – and I loved the Rainforest of the Sea palette. These are somewhere in-between, but the formula on these is much easier to use than their normal formula 🙂
Shake Down and Grind are such gorgeous colours -subtle and sophisticated, These could be worn with any other colours to add dimension to your eye look.
They are lovely hues!
Grind and Shake Down are both beautiful. I don’t think I’d wear Pin Up though. But hey, two out of three, not bad 🙂
They are nice ones 🙂
Hi Christine,
What is the mascara you are wearing in these photos? Your lashes look phenomenal:)
Thanks
I think it’s Tom Ford Extreme!
They are pretty! Pin up especially!
Yay!
Hey Christine, is pin-up truly iridescent as opposed to a harsher white? I can’t really tell from the swatch… like would it be too white for an all over shiny wash and really more suited for an only-a-highlight color?
Yes, I find it more iridescent – it’s definitely not a stark, bright white!
