Chanel Cavaliere (526) Le Vernis
Chanel Cavaliere (526) Le Vernis

Chanel Cavaliere (526) Le Vernis ($28.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a rich, deep brown with warm, reddish undertones and fine, golden brozne micro-shimmer. It had opaque coverage after two coats, though it was nearly opaque after one coat. The consistency wasn’t too thin or too thick, and it spread well across the nail. The polish had a good plushness to it, and the ridge on my ring finger was easily covered (without need of a ridge-filling base coat). Chanel’s formula typically wears seven days on me with minor tip wear, and the newer formula is comparable to that in wear time, but I find the newer formulation loses its shininess more quickly (after four or five days); I tested this particular shade for wear, and it came in at seven days with minor tip wear (which is pretty much the norm for me, so if you typically have polish that chips in three days, take my wear time with an extra dose of salt!). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Isherwood (P, $10.00) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Roach (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Smog (LE, $15.00) is cooler (90% similar). Christian Louboutin Beaute Farida (P, $50.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Rescue Beauty Lounge Ghost (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Chanel Canotier (532) Le Vernis ($28.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a subdued, light-medium gold with threads of fine, metallic shimmer. It had mostly opaque coverage after two coats, and while the color wasn’t really streaky, the metallic finish was really hard for me to avoid brush strokes. It dried down faster than the other two shades, but about half of the brush strokes remained visible even after dry down (sometimes they self-level). Chanel’s formula typically wears seven days on me with minor tip wear, and the newer formula is comparable to that in wear time, but I find the newer formulation loses its shininess more quickly (after four or five days). Marc Jacobs Beauty Patsy (164) (P, $18.00) is cooler (90% similar). Revlon Gold Coin (P, $4.99) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). MAC Screaming Bright (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (85% similar). Chanel Diwali (LE, $28.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Illamasqua Swinger (P, $17.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Revlon Spun Sugar (P, $4.99) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). NARS Gold Viper (LE, $20.00) is warmer (80% similar). China Glaze Midnight Kiss (LE, $7.50) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Chanel Espadrilles (534) Le Vernis ($28.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a slightly bright, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had opaque coverage after two coats (almost in opaque in just one) with a smooth, shiny finish that was even and plush-looking. The polish’s texture wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it flowed well across the nail without overflowing along the sides. Chanel’s formula typically wears seven days on me with minor tip wear, and the newer formula is comparable to that in wear time, but I find the newer formulation loses its shininess more quickly (after four or five days). Guerlain Nahema (P, $26.00) is cooler (95% similar). Chanel Holiday (LE, $28.00) is darker (95% similar). Cult Nails Ay Poppy (DC, $12.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Bougainvillea (LE, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Ablaze (LE, $16.00) is darker, brighter, cooler (90% similar). NARS Blow-up (P, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Kid Orange (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). NARS Lal Mirchi (LE, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). Essie Meet Me at Sunset (LE, $8.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Oriele Orange (LE, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). China Glaze Life Preserver (LE, $7.50) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I never thought I’d want brown nail polish, but obviously I do. I just fell for Cavaliere in a hard way. Espadrilles is pretty as well, but for me it’s nothing compared to the glorious brown. I have enough gold nail polishes to last me ten years, I think, if they would keep that long so Canotier is an easy pass. I must have Cavaliere, though. It’s a fact, I just must have it on my nails ASAP! 🙂
