Oxide (63M0, Golden Rose (60M), Golden Beige (52M), Petrolem Blue (92M), Calypso Blue (05M), Deep Pacific (03V)
Natasha Denona Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.08 oz.) comes in 66 shades with four distinct finishes (Matte, Duo-Chrome, Metallic, and Sparkling). According to the brand, the eyeshadow formula is supposed to have “full, rich and intense color that won’t fade out, be “long-lasting,” and smooth. The majority of the shimmery shades were very pigmented with a soft consistency that was something just right and other times a little prone to crumbling/loosening in the pan, while the mattes were smooth but quite powdery, which resulted it color that didn’t adhere to bare skin as readily. The texture of most shades is soft, blendable, and most of the shimmery shades I’ve tested applied well to bare skin. The wear was fairly consistent, but there was some variance from shade to shade (which didn’t seem related to finish). The wear has ranged from five to eight hours, depending on the shade. Primer helps with longevity, adding two to three hours to the shade’s no-primer wear time, but they seem like shorter-wearing eyeshadows compared to most powder formulas I’ve tried.
Check out my first review for more depth about the formula as well as a pricing breakdown for singles compared to palettes.
Oxide (63M) is a muted, medium-dark copper brown with warm, red undertones and a frosted sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a creamy, buttery, and smooth texture. Golden Rose (60M) is a medium, rosy pink with warm undertones and a strong, metallic gold sheen. Golden Beige (52M) is a bright, gold-shimmered peach with a metallic sheen. The texture was very soft, but a little loose in the pan, so it is an eyeshadow that applies best by patting and packing it on than sweeping it on. It had good pigmentation and blended out easily. The color started to crease after six and a half hours of wear. Urban Decay Angelfire (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Petroleum Blue (92M) is a muted, medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth, blendable texture that wasn’t too loose or too soft in the pan. It applied well to bare skin and showed signs of creasing after seven and a half hours of wear. Tom Ford Beauty TFX8 (LE, $36.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Urban Decay LCW (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). KVD Beauty Bukowski (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). City Color Under the Sea (P, $6.99) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Deep Pacific (03V) is a blackened, bluish-teal with a soft, pearly shimmer-sheen finish. It had decent color payoff, but it was one of the drier, looser, and less pigmented shimmery shades I’ve come across in the brand’s range. It builds up fairly well, and it blends out decently — it just has a slightly rougher edge to it. On me, it wore for seven and a half hours. ColourPop Rhinestone (LE, $6.00) is cooler (95% similar). Anastasia Throne (LE, $12.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). NARS Give In Take III (LE, $29.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). I’m so in love with this group! The look you made is stunning. I’m so torn on these shadows. The prices are absurd but they look amazing!
Thank you, Michelle!
Oxide looks like worth it’s price tag! That is really a beautiful deep copper shade. I do have Lorac Garnet, UD X, Maybelline Pink Wink e/s and CP Rhinestone, and a dupe for the brighter blue within a Nyx I Dream Of Antigua quint.
Gorgeous eye look you did using these, definitely worth my trying something similar, but reconfiguring shade placement due to my having less visible mobile lid space. I wish my hoods would raise up and stay there for the sake of makeup artistry!
Oxide was nice! I liked how it was more subdued than your average copper, but LORAC Garnet is quite close with its finish.
You are after my heart. Rhinestone is amaze. Golden beige is Puppy Love! ColourPop does blend. Some think not. It’s possible to create these colors with just that brand imho. ?
If I can find enough unique, high-scoring colors to put together a 5 pan from Beautylish, I will buy Golden Rose-it’s absolutely stunning! Too bad Deep Pacific didn’t score better, but I already have CP Rhinestone and a backup 🙂
yay for Rhinestone 😀
Beautiful eye look! I see a few here I really like in shade. But, that wear time , even considering primer is only giving you about 9 hours without creasing? Not sure they are worth that price.
Yeah, it’s a bummer! 🙁 The wear is really the biggest downside to the shimmers. The mattes have more issues (generally) across the board, but I wish the metallic/shimmer shades wore better.
I’ve heard that Natasha’s chemists cautioned her against making her shadows super-pigmented, but apparently she has turned it into a badge of honor that she didn’t listen to their advice. It looks to me like these products are loaded up with color pigments at the expense of binding and smoothing agents. The balance isn’t there.
Interesting! Where did you hear that? They seem to blend and adhere well to me, but it’s the actual longevity that I have issues with!
I believe I got that tidbit from a Jaclyn Hill video. It’s curious to me that the two vloggers who have praised this brand the most (Jaclyn and Kathleen Lights) have super dry skin. I often note that most makeup wears best on dry-ish skin, but it’s rare to see a product be this extreme about it.
My lids are normal-to-dry, though definitely not super dry, if that helps! I don’t use primer, though, and they might, which would help for sure 🙂
The ingredients are AWFUL! I saw a color I very liked. Waited for review cause what if it is ok enough I love the color. No! Talc is first ingredient. I will not touch these. Chemist caution heard too. ?
Christine, I am so glad you are reviewing this brand which has been so hyped up. It seems as if it’s hit or miss with these eyeshadows though.
I have a question: I really love Sphinx by Tom Ford but it’s so expensive. I’m trying to justify buying it so I’m wondering if it could be also used as a highlighter or blush topper since it’s such a lovely peachy gold. Do you think it could work? Or is it too tacky? Thank you!
I kind of think it’ll be a lot more sparkly than you want as a highlighter/over blush. It could definitely be smoothed over cheeks, and I find the formula dries down entirely (doesn’t stay tacky).
I’ve been MIA for a while so I didn’t notice when this brand first started gaining traction but I can see why its caused such a stir. They look amazing…pricey but they wouldn’t be the first eye shadows at that price point.
I really like this grouping, very spring. Oxide is really lovely. Not sure I could pull it off though!
Just love all of these colours. They are beautiful and so is your eye look Christine. The only colour I don’t have a dupe of is Golden Beige – and it is lovely. I have the bareMinerals Exotic Escape – which has Editor’s Pick in it and it is a better product than what the Deep Pacific seems to be.
Thank you for the reviews. This shorter wear time on normal to dry lids will be even shorter with my oily lids :/
I do believe I’ll take my money and spend it on accumulating some more MUFE’s artist eye shadows instead 😀
Pretty eyeball again! I think what makes me squirm is these give a greasy look. Cheap materials high prices. You included shades I liked. Still not moved. Kitten Heel! ? Love Lancôme!Nobody mentions them. 🙁 love that one! Oh:The golden yellow ABH look you created was totes amaze on your skin tone! Brightening! ?U know printing paper? Dirty it a little with dust. That’s my skin color. I can’t do that! ABH may not be perfect for you they look well though.
that golden rose looks unique to me! i love it!!!
Gorgeous eye look. I love copper and blue together.
All these shades are stunning! <3
I have to agree with the other this grouping I wish they would do as a 5 pan palette. lol
Golden Rose (60M) is such a brilliant duo chrome to it.
This is easily my favourite group of eyeshadows from ND so far. I love Golden Rose and Deep Pacific. I have dupes for Golden Rose, and will get the MAC pigment one for Deep Pacific.
These are really pretty, especially oxide 🙂
These are beautiful and this time the blues are not too bad. Still a bit expensive for me and especially with oily eyelids! Interesting reading about the chemist issue, hmm.
The copper one looks fantastic.
The copper one looks great, reminds me of the one in the Vegas Nay palette. I am not normally a copper kind of girl but I am for that shadow! It’s fantastic.
The Natasha Denona shadows are the smoothest and most saturated shadows I have ever tried. Even more saturated than Viseart and that says something. I have very oily lids and with a primer I can easily get 15 hours of wear from even the metallic shades and they blend like a dream. It’s amazing to me that someone can give Tom Ford shadows a glowing review then kind of put these down when in reality this formula is FAR superior!
