Clinique Cream Pop Lid Pop

FORMULA OVERVIEW | Clinique Lid Pop ($17.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new, powder eyeshadow formula that is described as “silky” and “long-wearing” with “richly pigmented shades build, blend easily to desired level of intensity.” They have good color payoff but tend to sheer out on the lid, and there is a faded quality after application, almost like when you apply an eyeshadow damp and it dries down less intense. The texture varies from soft and powdery to dusty to smooth. If you like semi-sheer to semi-opaque wash of colors and take the time to really blend and buff each shade, you can get a really luminous finish out of them, but using them more heavily results in a drier texture that was visible on my lid. I get between six and seven hours of wear with this formula, and in my experience, it was a formula that was faster to fade (but I didn’t have creasing issues) than the average eyeshadow for me. They have a very “lived in” look to me applied; like the eyeshadows melt and fade against the lid, but they never look like they do in the pan on the lid without a white or colored base.

Aqua Pop is a real stunner, oh my!
It is a pretty shade!
These make be sad…. The formulas should bet more constant than this.
Agreed!
Ouch. I really thought these would be better since the Cheek Pops were so amazing!
I think if they had kept the texture a little denser like the Cheek Pops, it might have worked better!
Oh, I am so sad 🙁 Based on the gorgeous swatches, I had high hopes for Aqua Pop, but can’t believe the pigment looks slightly faded on lids, might swatch over primer to see if it helps. Willow Pop is my kind of color but I have Sumptous Olive, which performs better. I’m totally in love with the flower design though, want one just to look at, will swatch Petal Pop in store and see if it can be used as a highlighter or blush.
Primer would definitely help! 🙂
It’s too bad these didn’t perform better—the embossing is so beautiful, and I love that last shade, willow pop!
I hear you! If only 🙁
These are pretty disappointing, but I find it kinda amusing that for once the blue seems to have been the best performer.
Me too, A. I wasn’t expecting it to be so nice, LOL, compared to you know, the beige!
Oooh! I really like Willow Pop here! I love my olive browns, so I’ll have to check it out.
Awesome!
Isn’t it amazing? Blue eyeshadow has been around since at least the 60’s, and yet, almost nobody can get it right anymore! Pfft!!!
That said, believe it or not, I could actually see Cream and Willow being used as a nice, very easy summertime wash look! (Or sub MAC Grain for Cream instead!) I think I actually like Willow a lot!
The blue was sooo crumbly!
I love the colours of Surf, Aqua and Willow, it’s just a shame about the performance of Surf. The dupes look better!
Thank goodness there were dupes!
Wow, you weren’t kidding when you told me about Surf Pop being disappointing. At least Aqua Pop looks nice, though I have dupes. I’m skipping these.
Aqua Pop was a surprise – after Surf Pop being a dud, I didn’t think Aqua Pop would have that kind of pigmentation.
The Aqua is really pretty. I like the Khaki too but it’s not for me.
I had a feeling Willow Pop wouldn’t be up your alley, Erin!
I am not surprised some of the results based on the other colors. Keep up the great work Christine.
Thank you, Deidre!
Christine, you’ve saved me at least $50 with these Lid Pop reviews, thanks!
Glad I could help, Alix!
Such a pity that these aren’t better. I really like most of the colours, but am not going to spend on any of them.
You managed to get a pretty look out of them, even though they are bad performers. Good job!
I must say I really, really like Willow, very nice, but am still not going to buy it. I do have dupes.
Thank you, Helene! 🙂
Aww…I was really excited for these – the colors looked amazing but I trust your reviews. You’ve saved me lots of $ this spring!
I was too, Linda! 🙁
They are gorgeous colours, but easily dupable and many of these colours live in our UD, Smashbox, MAC stash. However the quality is either average or poor. I also think that this kind of packaging would make it fiddly to use in a busy morning.
I really wish they had done a better job – maybe a denser formulation like the Cheek Pops or perhaps just embraced these as a wet/dry formula.
I have swatched these in person, I think they’re primarily supposed to be used wet as they all have stellar pigmentation when wet.
Clinique’s website doesn’t mention anything about using them wet, actually. From Clinique:
How to Use
Using an eye shadow specialist from Clinique’s Makeup Brush Collection, sweep shadow across lids for desired effects.
Create interesting dimension by blending and layering multiple shades.
Use as an accent shade in the crease, as a liner, or to highlight just under the brow bone.
Surf Pop looks so good in the pan! Oh well. 😛
🙁
Surf is the shade I was most interested in — so I’m glad it turns out that Dive and I218 are such good dupes for it, since I have both of them! Aqua Pop is really pretty, just not a flattering shade for my eyes. I like Willow. Quite a bit, in fact. If I get one of these, it will probably be Willow. These are so pretty in their little pots, I wish they performed better overall! As someone with sensitive skin, I’d like it a lot if Clinique would continue to update their makeup with high-quality offerings like their Cheek Pop blushes and Soft Matte lipsticks.
Dive is even better, IMO, since it is more nuanced!
Good 🙂
You created a beautiful “Serenity” eye look! I like these! I think I can dupe them all in ColourPop, UD, and MAC. Money saved. ?
Thanks, Kam!
Yay for saving $!
I work for Clinique, and we got to play with these at our Strategy class yesterday. I was So Disappointed going into class because of these reviews. But I have found that using a primer makes the payoff so much better. And on top of that, you can use surf pop wet and it gets rid of the streaky look entirely!
I wonder why they didn’t mention wet/dry on their site.
Aqua Pop is stunning. So glad it was rated higher than the others. That may be the one I start with.
Nice!
Is the pan size bigger than the cheek pops? Sephora says they are 0.21 oz each while the cheek pops are 0.12 oz each.
The back of the Lid Pops say 0.07 oz.
Thanks! I wish Sephora would stop posting wrong information *sigh*
