Guerlain Ombre Perlees -- Matte Eyeshadow Look

Guerlain Ombre Perlees — Matte Eyeshadow

I did this look over the weekend with Guerlain’s Ombre Perlees Palette. Even though the shades look like they have a hint of shimmer, they’re near-matte, particularly when used over a matte base. This is such a fall look, though, ha!

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the light white-pink eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply the coral eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with the taupe brown eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend the taupe brown eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Lightly tap and brush the coral eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep a mix of the light white-pink and coral as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Brown eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Highlight cheekbones with Beige Tint Meteorites with the 165.

For lips, apply Imperial Rouge Allure Laque first, and then layer Desire lipglass for a complementing lip.

I guess it’s because the eyes are too white/light for Christine’s skin, that it looks like a reverse smoky eye?

Maybe the highlighter could have been less white and closer to the skin tone instead. Still, I like the lips as well as the eyes but I’m still not sure if I like them together. 🙂

You look for beautiful Christine! The look and lip color really suits you. I like the look, it’s very wearable and office appropriate. Though I don’t know what it is about the palette, but it’s just not grabbing me. Perhaps it is, like you said, very fall and I’m set for bright pops of colour! ;P

Hey Christine,

I love the look especially the lips.
Quick question: the brush you use for the paint pot, the “249” do you mean to say 242 or is that a brush from a different brand?

This looks great on you. You have the perfect skin tone to pull this off. I’m a NC 15/20 and the Imperial Rouge Allure Laque looks a bit too vampy on me.

Well I just love this. I think you’ve interpreted the nude trend perfectly on your eyes. And your lip color is flawless. The overall look is very clean, yet muted. This is one I’ll be trying to for myself. Keep up the stellar posts!

I dont agree with your comment about the lip not being courtroom appropriate. I think it would look GREAT and totally acceptable. Its not distracting at all.
I do love the whole look but I dont think I am loving that much matte white against your skin. It doesnt look bad by any means. I want that palette too and I bet I am going to HATE that color. OMG IT JUST HIT me while I was typing! It reminds of a Bobbi Brown look that she would do. She always uses Bone over the entire lid and if you go back and look at the ads for her collections from a few years back there is one that looks just like this. It was on a Neiman Marcus card that was in the anniversary bag!! I KNEW this reminded me of something!! I thought the exact same thing about that pic too in regard to the white. But god love her she LOVES her some matte white/beige up to the brow looks LOL!!!
Regardless its gorgeous and you should wear that lip to work. Maybe with just Ocher pain pot and mascara so it didnt compete??? Pretty pretty pretty!!

Hey Heather!

Aww, well that’s good to hear 🙂 I’ve been told no noticeable makeup is what goes in the courtroom thus far in my law school experience!

I probably would have used a much, much more beige-y highlighter (something as close to my skin tone as possible!) — I had to mix the two lightest shades in the Guerlain palette, because the lightest is pretty white against my skin tone–fine for the lid, not so fab on the brow bone!

I agree with the other comments in that it is a work-wearable look. I never gave matte colors much of a chance. After seeing this look, I will give it a try. I really love how it brightened up your eyes, they look bigger and wide awake!

Hi!
I have always popped in now again when my web searched found something on your blog, but I have become addicted lately (probably because I am supposed to be writing a paper 🙂

Anyway, I was wondering, do you have a review of Benefit Sugarbomb? You seem to wear it alot. Is it more pink or peach? Can you compare it to any other product? And how does it wear?
Sorry for the questions..thank you for any help you can give me!
You look great!

I found your review…sorry, I don’t know how I missed it. You look beautiful in it, so I might just have to pick it up!
Thank you!

I love it! Oh my gosh. I wonder if it’s the Meteorites or the Sugarbomb that gives you that beautiful glow? I’ve been so conflicted and obsessed about the Meteorites and whether I should get them or not.

CeeBee Avatar

Beautiful.

As much as I love your dramatic and colourful looks (and have been inspired by a number of them!), I have to admit I think this and the Crush Glow look you did recently are just so gorgeous and flattering on you… I guess I’m trying to say both *you* and *your* makeup look beautiful in this sort of look and sometimes I get so busy looking at dramatic makeup I forget to see “you” underneath, which sounds kind of silly now that I type it all out… :-X – but you’re an amazingly gorgeous thing, you are!

Christine Avatar

Aww, thank you! 🙂 It’s good to hear – it is kind of funny – a neutral look will get less comments than a bright one, so I always try to limit the “neutral” looks since I always attribute “boring” to them, lol!

Thank you again 🙂

CeeBee Avatar

Nope, not boring! (as if you could be ;-p)

Neutrals are pretty, classy, sophisticated, elegant and infinitely wearable. But not boring!

I love me some bright pops of colour every now and then and a dramatic smoky eye (purple especially!) is always gorgeous but mostly I want people to think “Gosh, she looks pretty…” not “Cripes, look at all that blue eyeshadow she’s got on!” – especially for everyday, office or work appropriate wear.

For a party, heck yeah, I’ll let loose! but it’s so nice (for me anyway!) to see different, gorgeous and SO not boring neutral makeup combinations.

I’m lemming this palette and glad the shades are kinda matte. I’ve been dabbling in mattes and mixing with my satins and shimmers. Thanks for the great pics!

wow, you look incredible!! i am totally loving this look on you, although i am usually drawn to the bright colors.. it really compliments you!

Catherine Avatar

Wow, I LOVE this, Christine! It makes you look so sexy and…mature. Does that sound weird? Because it’s totally a good thing!

Also… run out of that Sugarbomb yet? 😉

Brenda Avatar

I do like the look although I feel like the inner corners, I guess the white pink, might be a touch cool for the rest of the palette?

Beck Avatar

Gosh Temptalia, Christine =), you are just so beautiful. Absolutely stunning. I love this look too, you make matte’s look marvelous.

Hilana Avatar

your technique as usual is perfect, and I LOVE the red lippie.
However, I don’t really like the eye colours. It looks chalky. I think it would have looked better if they put in a wee bit more shimmer. It just looks kinda dead this way.

Adhya Avatar

Me thinks this absolutely works on u 🙂 . Wud perhaps b a bit better on me had the eyes had a bit more of shimmer n shine in them … Love the lips 🙂

vero Avatar

i love this look, i actually copied it this morning with dupes; the only difference was the lipcolor, i had a more berry lip in the makeup bag but I would like to try it again with the red lip you have. this is the perfect work look too, not just fall ;).

Hannelore Avatar

I really love this look! But if you’d pair it with Shroom like you said you would normally do, this would look even more fantastic!

Leesh Avatar

This is one of my faves. I was searching for a matte shadow on you, and VIOLA! You look incredible! And the burgundy lip just topped it off!
