Giorgio Armani #200 Night Berry Ecstasy Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches
Giorgio Armani #200 Night Berry Ecstasy Lacquer
Giorgio Armani #200 Night Berry Ecstasy Lacquer ($38.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark red with warm undertones and very fine pearl. Maybelline Classic (P, $7.99) is cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Bordeaux (-, $16.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Courting Chic (LE, $20.00) is lighter, more muted, cooler (85% similar). Anastasia Vamp (-, $16.00) is cooler (85% similar). Chanel Dzhari (608) (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less pigmented (85% similar). Chanel Flaming Lips (812) (LE, $30.00)(85% similar). MAC Viva Glam I (LE, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Ciate Venus (P, $18.00) is more shimmery, more muted (80% similar). Urban Decay Brickhouse (DC, $26.00) is less shimmery, lighter, brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The Ecstasy Lacquer formula is supposed to have the shine of a gloss, color and hydration of a lipstick, and the long-wear of a stain, though they say “applied in a single layer for a subtle touch of color … or in a layered application for a bold, statement lip.” It has a floral scent, which is noticeable in the tube and for an hour or so of wear (particularly strong when it is drying down). There is a slight taste to me, as well. Initially, the formula is thin and more water-like, but after you’ve applied it, the consistency thickens, levels out, and “adheres” to your lips in a very comfortable wear. The consistency is mostly non-sticky and gradually gets a lightly tacky about half-way through wear. #200 Night Berry had semi-opaque coverage in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly overall, but it could have been more even. It was comfortable to wear over a six hour period and was lightly hydrating, but it still had some shine even at the six-hour mark.

Wow, this is gorgeous! I think these might be similar to the YSL Vernis A Levres Glossy Stains — I have 2 of them and they are like a hybrid lipstick/gloss, very comfortable to wear. As soon as I finish those 2, I’m going to try the Armani one
They are!
Wow that’s beautiful. Is it transfer/fade resistant like a liquid lipstick? Or like the YSL glossy stains?
Like Glossy Stains!
I wasnt expecting such a bright shade.
I think the tubes are quite dark, so it’s hard to tell the real color!
I have been DYING to try these! But, with all the LE stuff out, they keep getting pushed to the bottom of my list! This shade was one of the many to check out. So glad it got a thumbs up form you!
They’re pretty nice! All but the scent I like!
This description sounded exactly like L’oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain, down to the horrible floral smell/taste…so I compared ingredients, cuz I’m a dork. The first 5 are identical, and the rest are similar. Just eyeballing it, it seems like Everlasting Caramel is the closest color to dupe this…I own Endless Red, and it is lighter & redder….just an FYI for anyone looking for a drugstore dupe!
That’s so good to know! Thanks, Julie!
Looks great on you! I’m not too sure about that finish though. I prefer glossy or creamy finishes. For me, that is. You, you work everything 🙂
Is this not glossy enough?
My red-loving knees have gone weak for this stunning red!!!
Funny how I have an addiction to red lippys, but in actuality, I wear many other colors too! ???
Variety is good 😀
Christine, would you classify this as a take on a liquid lipstick? Or is it more like a pigmented gloss?
Gloss!
It’s absolutely gorgeous, but strong florals in lip products are a no-go for me.
It is the biggest downside 🙁
I am actually wearing this in a different shade today (401). I like these a lot. Very similar to the YSL Glossy Stains, which I also love. The smell is the only ding for me. It is a bit overpowering, which I think is going to keep me from buying more colors.
They are similar to the Glossy Stains for sure! I wish they were unscented (same with YSL).
The YSL Glossy Stains are my favorite lip products ever, so I definitely have to check these Armani glosses out!
Let me know if you like one over the other 😉 It seems to be mixed – some prefer GA, some prefer YSL still!
Such a beautiful colour and I don’t normally like lip glosses. It looks sensational on you Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
So pretty!
Agreed!
I never wear dark lip colors, they age me by 10+ years. But this is so darn beautiful
Aww! I hope they’ll do a few lighter shades in the future.
I can’t pull the shade off but man that is pure beauty right there!
It is!
I have been so fascinated by these, but I am hours from any Armani counters and blind buys at this price point make me wince. Love the review. Plan on doing more? 😀
I have a few more!
The shimmer is pretty but the floral scent makes this a no-no.
I hear you 🙁
I just got 201 and 602 of these. So far, I’m really liking them. My lips tend to be dry, so I always look for hydrating lip formulas. How do you apply them Christine? Straight from the doe foot applicator?
I used the doe-foot applicator!
I saw these in my local department store two weeks ago, I was dying to see your review before buying but yesterday I caved and got the shade 500 lol. I loved it better than the YSL ones, but the color selection could be better. All the shades available were bright or dark colours and I was on the hunt for a pink-brown neutral shade. Still the formula is lovely. The microshimmer of this one was really beautiful in person, I might get this either. Will you be reviewing more of these ?
I have a few more to review! I was pleasantly surprised by how they had micro-shimmer!
What are you wearing on your cheeks, Christine? Looks so fresh and beautiful!
I can’t remember, unfortunately! 🙁
Omg I LOVE these! I have Leather and Vertigo and I think they’re the best thing since sliced bread lol. They’re so easy to wear and last me all day. I’m itching to get another already lol
So glad you are digging these, Fancie! I haven’t tried either of those!
