MAC Swiss Chocolate Blush
MAC Swiss Chocolate Blush ($17.00 for 0.21 oz. pan-only) is described as a “soft cocoa [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium-dark brown with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. Bite Beauty Anise (P, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Raizin (P, $24.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Chanel Duo N. 01 (Bottom) (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Naturally Enhanced (LE, $34.00) is more muted, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Cocoa (P, $24.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). MAC Pressed Amber (LE, $29.00) is more shimmery, more muted, cooler (85% similar). Makeup Geek Chivalry (P, $10.00) is cooler (85% similar). By Terry Savannah Love #6 (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). NARS Melina (Contour) (PiP, ) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Anastasia Chocolate (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC’s Powder Blush formula is supposed to be easy to apply, long-wearing, and have “fantastic colour.” It’s hard to generalize for MAC’s blush formula, because it varies a lot from shade to shade, even within different types of finishes! Some of them are very good, others are so-so, and a few are complete misses. The more frosted/shimmery shades tend to have the softest and smoothest textures and are easier to apply and blend out on the skin, while more satin and matte shades can sometimes be powdery, firm, or stiff, which makes blending more challenging. The wear is typically between six and nine hours but closer to seven to eight hours on average. Swiss Chocolate had good pigmentation, though not fully opaque unless layered, with a slightly dry, noticeably powder consistency that did make it a bit harder to work with. A lot of the color gets on the brush but seems to disperse in a wider arc than intended, so I would recommend using a denser, more tapered blush brush and tapping excess off, prior to applying to the skin. It blended out decently, but there was a slight unevenness to it overall. The blush lasted for eight hours on me before I noticed fading. It’s nowhere near as silky as the eyeshadow by the same name.

I’m madly disappointed in the two most recent MA blush reviews. I think both shades (Sculpt, Swiss Chocolate) are fantastic and quite unique. I think both can be worn by a wide range of skintones and ethnicities, but the swatches are so unbearably patchy. I think blush, in a not so great formula, can be one of the trickiest products to blend out properly. You mess up your eye makeup, you wipe it off and start again, you mess up your blush (it’s always a face balancing product which I add towards the end of my makeup) and you are pretty much starting from scratch. It’s a tough one to ‘fix’. So, boo!
It’s such a disservice 🙁 They have a lot of potential, and then it’s like, “Nope, just kidding!”
I’m a chocolate girl. Mac Raizin is my all time favorite blush so I’m thinking about grabbing this one too. Maybe trying it as a contour .
I hope this will work for you, Jones!
So far, it would seem, MAC has pretty much dropped the ball with almost all their new darker shades of blush which I believe were geared towards WOC. I think it’s really a shame because MAC has thus far been great in this regard, ie; their foundation range, concealers. Only Burnt Pepper appears to be a great blush out of these.
I agree — so disappointing and a real shame.
What’s the blush on your other cheek? This one is way too pigmented for me, given the color.

I still have Carbon, Bamboo and Bisque in blush-sized pans from waaaaaaayyyy back when they had the screw off lids. Maybe I should check out what other eye shadows turned blush they have in blush-sized pans. Sketch and Swiss Chocolate are staples for me. I’ll have to swatch next time I’m at the counter. You think they could double as an eye shadow, Christine?
Possibly, but I don’t know if the ingredients are a little different vs. the powder version (dyes).
Wow, this looks like a versatile shade for many skintones and uses (blush, bronzer, contour), too bad the formula wasn’t a little better
I know! I’m so bummed.
Not a shade I could use, but I’m glad it got a better grade than the other darker browns.
That is true!
yeah, I don’t like that.
On to the next!
