Round-up: Surratt Beauty Artistique Blush Overview & Thoughts
Surratt Beauty Artistique Blush ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is available in ten shades from a highlighter to a deepened red. I reviewed all of these last year after I visited a Barney’s location and saw Surratt’s range for the first time. Of all the products I swatched at the counter, I left with all ten shades–they were that impressive in texture, even after being swatched by dozens before me. I never did a roundup of them when I finished reviewing the range, and since several asked me about reviewing the range, a roundup seemed like the perfect way to dust off those old posts 🙂 The texture is remarkable, as it is a powder product, but it is so finely-milled, silky, and smooth, that it feels like a cream, and despite all that silkiness, it doesn’t feel or turn powdery. The finish is subtle and luminous, so it’s flattering on the skin. I would love to see an expansion of the shade range to include more mid-tone and deeper shades, like a cool-toned berry, rusty brown, and medium pink.
If you’re unfamiliar with Surratt’s range, all of the powder products are designed to be put into palettes (the brand has two available, but I keep mine in a Z-Palette with magnets attached to the back). Each plastic pan comes with a thin, slide-off plastic “sleeve” that’s more substantial than a plastic insert you might find with a pan eyeshadow, but it’s not sturdy enough to really withstand being put into a makeup bag or traveling. If you just keep everything in a vanity or train case, I think you can leave it as-is without getting a palette for it.

In some ways Surratt reminds me of Shu Uemura when Shu was available in the US and only had two store fronts. Once products get massed produced, then the quality goes down. Shu was so cute back then. I have three blush and one eyeshadow. The shadows are pretty but I don’t think they are pigmented.
I’ll be interested to see if Surratt expands ranges now that they’re at Sephora. I think the brand hasn’t had too much extension since the initial launch?
Thanks for the round up. I picked a few out from Sephora’s website swatches and then looked at your reviews an swatches. I picked Parfait, La vie en Rouge, and Cantaloupe. After reading reviews considering price, and that the compact is separate, I really am only maybe wanting Melon still . I wonder if the stores will bring these in. it’s not in the stores near me yet. Right now, there are too many really nice blushes coming out at way better prices and my drawer is well stocked. I do hope they expand the range as you mentioned.
No problem, Nicole! They’re pretty, but I’m sure you have some dupes, too. Clinique’s are really great – I do reach for those more!
Lol.I meant cantaloupe.I guess I had Cliniques melon on my mind as I’ve been debating on putting that on my wants list. Do you happen to have reviews on Suratt brushes already? For some reason those I think are going to get me.
I don’t have any of Surratt’s brushes, so I am not much help there! They didn’t have them in the line yet when I was at the counter last year (at least, not that I was aware of), so I don’t even know what they feel like, but I have heard whispers they are manufactured by Chikuhodo (no idea if it’s true, though!).
Okay, no problem! I certainly am in no urgent need of brushes!
Christine, can you add a side-by-side swatch page to this when you have a chance? I’m interested in purchasing now that they are more readily available at Sephora and would like to see them all lined up like you did with the Clinique cheek pops! (If there is a way I can do this myself, I’m sorry to bug you!)
Hi Katie,
Here’s the link: http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?brand=Surratt%20Beauty&type=12662
As a reference, you can easily pull up what you want on the fly through the Swatch Gallery (http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery) and then selecting filters (e.g. brand and type=blush). 🙂
Thank you!!!!!
PERFECT I’m in Singapore right now and stumbled into the Surrat counter, and remembered coming across one of your blush reviews and wondering if I’d ever get the chance to see the line in person…and I did! I’m definitely coming back, the blushes are gorgeous and I want the lipsticks too hehe.
I didn’t even know Surratt was in Singapore! That’s very cool.
I’ve had Grisaille over a year now after a visit to San Fransisco and an indulgent trip to Barney’s. It’s a perfect contour shade for me (About N30 – it’s a little light, but I prefer my contour subtle), and I’ve hit pan, so I’m so happy so see it’s at Sephora now! I didn’t buy a palette for it, and always take it when I travel and have never had a problem. The case it comes in has held up just fine. I’ve never even had the top slide off unexpectedly.
Happy to hear it travels well for you, Kristen! I tried, but I had SOOOO many covers and pans dented, lol. Never again for me! How do you pack yours?
I use a Hold Me bag. The largest size. (Traveling light has never been my strong suit!) And of course the cute cat print. 🙂 I pack things that can stack flat on the bottom, but in the divider, and then put tubes and bottles on top. Once the bag gets tied shut, stuff doesn’t move around much. It gets stacked in with a bunch of other square/rectangular things, so it doesn’t tend to shift around too much during travel. I’ve never just thrown it in loose bag though – I can definitely see how that would not work!
“put” in the divider (not but). 🙂
I’ll have to check that out! I use small-to-medium-sized zipperered makeup bags and usually keep eyeshadows with eyeshadows/palettes, lip products with lip products, etc. but they don’t necessarily lay flat!
Call me conceited, but part of the reason I purchase high-end makeup is for the packaging (I love me some YSL and Guerlain packaging). I think I’ll skip these because of that fact alone!
Nothing wrong with expecting more for the price 🙂
Thank you Christine for the round up!! I ordered few of the shades as well as the large palette! But few reviews mentioned the palette not being magnetic!!does the labels on the backside of the pans an option to peel and stick to the pans??!! Thank you!!
I don’t know if you can peel the label easily or not 🙁 The blushes were distinct enough for me that I just put the magnet over the label without attempting to peel it off. I’m totally regretting that move on the eyeshadows, though, lol!
I’m so glad Sephora is carrying these!
Me too! It makes it so much more accessible!
Guimauve (A-)
La Vie En Rose (A-)
I am ordering these tonight! The ‘La Vie En Rose’ is a pre-order. I think they are beautiful and to me the colors are unique (these two).
Yayyy! I think Guimauve will be especially pretty on you, Deborah!
La Vie En Rose is so pretty, I don’t have anything like it. Might go on my buy list for Sephora sale
Awesome 😀
