Kat Von D L.U.V. Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
Kat Von D L.U.V. Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is described as a “rich violet.” It’s a brightened, magenta purple with warmer, pink tones but an overall cooler undertone and an ultra-matte finish. MAC Vogue en Violet (P, $23.00) is darker, warmer. NARS Silvia (P, $32.00) is lighter, glossier. NARS Angela (P, $32.00) is lighter, glossier. Kat Von D L.U.V. (P, $21.00) is purpler. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is lighter, less matte. MAC RiRi Boy (LE, $16.00) is purpler. MAC Seductive Intent (LE, $16.00) is less matte. MAC Night Blooming (LE, $16.00) is brighter, glossier. MAC Up the Amp (P, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Heroine (P, $16.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
The Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula is supposed to be a “long-wear, full-coverage liquid lipstick with a smooth matte finish.” It is also supposed to have ingredients in it for “added hydration.” It’s not a hydrating formula, and unless you often wear satin to matte finishes, it may not be precisely “comfortable” to you either. It’s a liquid formula that goes on glossy and dries down to a very flat, matte finish that doesn’t cling or settle into lip lines, but it does adhere and hug the lips. It’s slightly drying on me after four hours of wear and gets a little more drying over time. The wear time is excellent, easily reaching eight hours with little product having worn away. It was mostly opaque; I think you could possibly get a thin, second layer to get more pigmentation out of it, but you want to apply in thinner layers so it dries evenly. This was virtually smudge-, budge-, and kiss-proof when I tested it, but if you eat something oilier or combine it with lip balm, you may see slight color transfer.

I feel like these remind me of those “18-hour” liquid lipsticks that lots of drug store brands came out with in the mid-2000s. Great in theory, uncomfortable and unpractical in practice.
Way, way better than those.
Some of the sephora reviews said if you combine it with a lip balm it gets super sticky and doesn’t dry. Did you try that with any of the colors?
I’ll be interested in other color reviews!
I don’t test products with lip balm, sorry!
I tried a different color of this formula with a lip balm and it did get super sticky. It was a bit of a hot mess. It was the same when I tried a gloss. Stila stay all day gloss basically re activates the matte lipsticks and makes them wet again.
On it’s own it was great. I tried it with another lipstick on top and it was a little sticky, but not as bad as when I tried the balm.
I tried lip balm with one of mine the other day and it did get SUPER sticky. I had to use a cleansing oil to take it off because it was so horrible. From now on, will not use them on days I need balm.
That’s too bad about the formulation being drying, the color is gorgeous on you! Does remind me of MAC Heroine, a little prettier though.
It is very similar to Heroine!
Wow, this one is so bold! Probably a little too matte for me, but it looks fabulous on you! Does it flake as the formula gets broken down by oil?
Nope, I didn’t have any flaking. It’s not like MAC Pro Longwear Lustres or formulas like that.
Good to know! The Hourglass formula flakes on me, so I’ve been approaching liquid lipsticks with caution.
“…kiss-proof when I tested it.”
>:)
Well, we will not dispute the findings of your intensive and exhaustive test!
LOL!
LMAO get it, Christine!
Wow, that is matte. I love it. I’ve worn liquid matte lipsticks in the past and liked them for their wear time–you really can leave them at home. But at the end of the night they do start to feel uncomfortable, and if you do happen to need to reapply, I find them tough to work with when trying to put a new layer over a long-ago-dried layer. I think I’d still rather have Heroine–even though it looks glossy next to this one!
Heroine is easier to maintain/reapply for sure.
I always love the colors in this range, but they DESTROY my lips. I can’t wear the formula for more than five minutes or my lips start cracking 🙁 Plus, almost nothing wipes it off.
Ouch! That is brutal! I use a cotton pad + Lancome Bi-Facil or just shu’s cleansing oil and that removes all of it (this one stains a bit, so there is a stain left behind).
Yeah 🙁 It sucks because I really really love the color Lolita, but my lips are just so sensitive. Anything will make them bleed. I actually have a lot better luck with the Hourglass liquid lipsticks! Here’s hoping they expand their color range…
Lolita, the new version or the old one? I was so sad they changed the colors but I do like the new one but I’m almost out of the old one so I’ll be heartbroken soon…
I would love to see you review more colors, especially Lolita and Vampira.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I second that! There are a lot of nice basic and unique colors in this line and I’m curious to know if the formula is consistent across the range.
I’m always looking for a long wear liquid lipstick that my dry lips can tolerate. Beautiful shade, but not sure this is the one for me.
It might be worth trying, but it may not be a winner for dry lips.
Yikes, this one looks dry!! But if it wears for a near-flawless eight hours… is it about the same level of uncomfortable as a traditional matte lipstick (say, by MAC or Revlon), or did you find it to be tighter/drier than the rest?
It’s not tight to me – it is a little more hugging than a regular matte, but it is less clingy than MAC Retro Matte!
… tempting. 😀 Thanks, Christine!
It looks a little dry but I still want it anyway. The color is just so beautiful!
It is a pretty shade!
Twelve years ago MAC had a lipstick called ‘Lac Lustre’. It was a LE, I truly adored a shade called ‘Coy’ (the perfect nude pinky mauve). This formula looks like MAC’s old formula, I used to wear them exclusively for a while back then, even though it was the days of ultra high shine lip gloss.
The shades offered weren’t this bright, but just as plush looking. This looks wonderful on you.
Do you remember the MAC ones?
They’re kind of like that, from what I remember, but I think these dry down a lot more.
It looks a bit chalky to me.
Probably just because it is so matte 🙂
I love this color. It’s so pretty 🙂
Yay!
Oh yay! I’m glad you got to review this since I’m one of the people who mention it a ton on here as a great long-wear purple (and much better alternative to the Studded Lipsticks, IMO). L.U.V is an absolutely beautiful color that flatters tons of people. It’s one of my favorite purples in my beloved purple collection. Looks lovely on you, of course. I love that the finish turns out to be such a perfect true matte. This color really makes my lips look perfect and smooth. Vampiria is less great on me but Outlaw is a wonderful red in this formula. Lasts forever comfortably. It’s a shame I definitely can’t mix any balm with it and have to fully make sure any balm remnants are wicked away before application because truly like you said it does not play well with balm.
Happy to hear you’ve loving Outlaw, Celia!
So matte, so beautiful!
Glad ya liked it, Cat!
I love the color, but I really can’t stand the appearance of ultra-matte lipsticks. To me, they make the smoothest, most well-prepped lips look dry and cracked, so on my already-dry lips? Nope, nope, nope.
That super matte look is definitely a personal preference!
I love this color and the long lasting quality. I’ve been getting more into matte lip products lately, but I’m still getting use to them. This just looks a little too drying for me, although it is gorgeous.
What are your favorite mattes so far, Jessica?
I love the super matte finish of these, but I’m not sure my lips would agree 🙁 I can wear Ruby Woo fine from time to time, would you say this formula is similar, or less comfortable?
I find it a little more comfortable than Ruby Woo 🙂
Thanks Christine! I might consider it then 😀
A tip that may or may not help some people with the dry feeling, I have and love the black matte liquid lip stick from Lime Crime, but it is slightly drying, so I line and fill with OCCs black color pencil first, as I find it isnt drying at all and is actually slightly hydrating, slightly, anyway, it definitely helps prevent the drying from the liquid lipstick, I dont know if it will work with shades from this range with a corresponding color pencil, but might be worth trying for some people!
Thanks for the tip, Brian!
Hi Christine, this color looks gorgeous on you!!! but I’m not bold enough to try it. Is the formula different from their past formula? I know with these new formula they changed some colors around but kept the name…not sure why…but an example would be Lolita…it used to be this gorgeous warm terracotta-ey color, think MAC Mocha satin lipstick, and now it’s like a cool, 90’s mauve color or something…
I’m not sure at what point it was changed? I don’t think I’ve tried the old one.
Oh, that looks really nice on. I adore that color. So, is liquid lipstick similar to lip paint and lip tar? Or is the consistency different?
The consistency is thinner, and when it dries down, it is a lot different than Lip Tar!
Thank you. I’ll have to put some on my “to buy” list and try it out. I do have the Studded Lipstick in L.U.V., so I might try another shade.
This colour looks flattering on you!
Thanks, Stephanie!
I’ve been wanting to try her liquid lipsticks for a while now. I am slacking lol love the matteness of it (if thats a real word?)
It is now 😉
I love this color !! looks perfect on you..!! This would be amazing for this season.. too bad though it dries out… Especially for people like me.. my lips are already dry in fall/winter.
hank you so much, Manpreet!
I have this and 5 other of the colors and I just love them! !!
Awesome! Which is your favorite?
Underage red!
I bought this thinking it would be true-to-tube on me, but it ended up drying into a bland purple-gray colour. It made me so sad 🙁 I do have a mini in Outlaw and it’s awesome. I feel like Gwen Stefani when I wear it (although my husband is hotter) 😛
I’m glad you like Outlaw, at least!
whoa! awesome colour!!!
It is a bold one!
This is one of my favorite lipsticks ever, but I can never wear it or any of the liquid to matte lipsticks without prior planning and preparation.
What works for me is to make sure straight out of the shower that I slather my lips in my moisturizing balm. Then I go ahead and do everything else…moisturize my body, get dressed, apply my skin care products, do my eye makeup, do my hair, put on my jewelry, whatever.
By the time I have done all this, the balm has had plenty of time to absorb into my lips. I blot off any remaining balm and then put on the lippie. Because all the surface balm is gone, it still dries perfectly matte and non-sticky, but because of the time soaking in balm, I can get through a day of wearing these without discomfort.
As soon as I get home, I remove the lipstick using coconut oil and immediately slather my lips in more balm to counteract any dryness that may have formed through the day or from the removal.
It’s a process and takes some planning but it’s worth it for such a great color.
I own like 5 of these lipsticks and I loved them all but one. My favorite one is Jeffree, it’s such an unique, beautiful pink shade; there might be some dupes out there but I haven’t found any just yet. I had great hopes for Vampira but it looks awful on me after a couple hours, I find it very patchy and uneven unlike the other shades I own from this line. This is the one I’m buying next although I think it’s pretty similar to Lime Crime’s Utopia. Are you gonna review them all, Christine?
I don’t have them all, sorry!
