Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner & Pow Kiss Pop Lip Color Sticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick
I originally reviewed this new Marc Jacobs Beauty Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) formula a few weeks ago, and now I have the other two shades I bought to share with you. The formula is described a “highly-pigmented lipstick that provides a burst of long-wearing, kissable color,” which is actually a different description than what was available two weeks ago (which read: “Give lips a burst of color—and hydration—when you swipe on this gel lip shade from Marc Jacobs”). The press release listed, “Color glides on effortlessly and lasts for hours, locking in hydration with advanced ingredients.”
Headliner (608) ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “berry sangria.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark raspberry pink with a satin-matte finish. There’s a slight shine to the finish, but it is fairly matte. It had full color coverage, and it applied smoothly and evenly. This was actually the best-performing shade of the four I bought. It was lightly creamy and didn’t tug or pull at the lips, and it was more comfortable to wear. It didn’t feel as thick, and it didn’t feel chalky at all. On me, it wore well for six and a half hours and was lightly drying–and it didn’t “crack” like the other shades I tried. Givenchy Framboise Velours (315) (LE, $36.00) is slightly muted. Bite Beauty Crimson (LE, $28.00) is brighter. Guerlain Gladys (78) (P, $51.00) is more shimmery. YSL Exquisite Plum (22) (P, $34.00) is warmer. YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) is cooler-toned, glossier. Revlon Plum Velour (P, $7.99) is sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is glossier. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is a touch darker, more shimmery. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Pow (600) ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “peony pink.” It’s a muted, light-medium pink with subtle warm undertones and a matte finish. It had fairly opaque color coverage, but the consistency had a thicker, chalkier feel going on, so it did drag here and there. I was able to get mostly even color, but after two and a half hours of wear, the color started to pull into lip lines and “crack.” The color wore for about five hours. It was lightly drying while worn. Too Faced Melted Peony (P, $21.00) is warmer. NARS Villa Lante (LE, $25.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Please Me (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Headliner is super yummy!
And it performed better, yay!
Booo, I wanted pow to knock me off my feet (pun intended) 🙁 At least Head Liner looks nice.
Haha! 😉
Headliner is stunning on you! 🙂
Aw, thanks Divya! 🙂
Ohhh! I wasnt planning on getting any but headliner is gorgg!!
It is a nice color!
Headliner looks amazing!
Do you think you’ll try it?
These colours look amazing on your Christine, especially Headliner! I would love to get this one, but I just can’t get over the packaging. It looks so strange to me. I expected more from Marc Jacobs. I will have to try one of the dupes!
Thank you, Dana! 🙂
Huh, I wouldn’t have thought headliner is similar to Rebel at all. It looks redder to me, perhaps a bit lighter. Maybe it’s just the opacity or finish? Or is my monitor really in need of calibrating?
Rebel is a little bit cooler-toned, not as bright, darker!
Thank you for the clarification! I’ve always wished Rebel was a bit warmer on me so Headliner might be a good alternative.
The packaging is strange, although I like the pop of color on the tip for reference purposes. Other than that it looks like a cross between a weird pencil and a bullet.
It has more product than the average lipstick (in a tube), which I thought was interesting!
Headliner is hot! It looks really good on you!
Aw, thanks Fancie!
YAY Headliner is the one I love too!! its so funny because if you look at it in the tube it looks like it would be way too dark, but when I swatched it in the store I was in love with it! I wanted POW as well, but I think it did not look that great on me, I need more of a brighter pink. Headliner is my favorite! Christine, do you know if these are limited editions or part of the Permanente line?
These are supposed to be a new and permanent formula as far as I know!
They’re both so pretty, especially Pow!
Glad ya liked ’em!
headliner is BEAUTIFUL. it kind of reminds me of wet’n’wild’s cherry picking, just a little bit? not sure i’m on board with the packaging though.
I’m not familiar with that shade, but this isn’t a super unique color, IMO, so I bet there is some similarity there!
Hello Headliner!
It is a bold shade!
I found these to be very drying. I bought POW and returned. It felt weird in my hand. The color is BRIGHT! It did go on smoothly but I couldn’t wait to get it off my lips. Where was the hydration?
The lighter colors, like Pow, seem to be clingier compared to a darker shade, though the formula could use hydration either way!
I got Cabaret as part of the Love and Lust set (the sephora 1000 point perk). Does it make sense to splurge on this too?
I don’t love this formula, so I wouldn’t personally splurge on it! Well, not again (since I did buy these, lol!).
I also found that Pow (and Heartbreaker, the other lip color stick I have) dragged a bit when I applied this to my lips. It definitely applied better with a lip balm. Also, I needed to wear lip balm underneath these as they were drying without!
These weren’t as drying as I expected (given how they felt), but they were definitely drying and not hydrating!
Headliner is lovely! I was surprised, when I looked at Pow, to find myself thinking: ‘this one seems somehow less dupeable/more unique’, and lo, there were fewer dupes! Not a shade I’d wear, but it’s unusual to see a white-based pink that seems different, I feel.
It is hard to make colors unique these days, period! It is nice to find ones that are less common.
Headliner is gorgeous. You look radiant wearing it. Interesting that it was the one performing the best.
Thank you, Helene!
I just can’t get into these. Or Marc Jacobs, generally. They’re really pretty and look lovely on you…but I dunno MJ doesn’t speak tips me, lol. 🙂
There are so many brands, it’s good that not everyone speaks to you, lol!
Headliner is gorgeous! Can’t resist berry lip colors! Though I was hoping these would be more gel-like, cushion-y and hydrating.
Definitely look at their Gel lip color range!
