Buxom Dolly Full-Bodied Lip Gloss Review, Photos, Swatches
Buxom Dolly Full-Bodied Lip Gloss
Buxom Dolly Full-Bodied Lip Gloss ($19.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is described as a “shimmering sultry mauve.” It’s a medium, pinky-plum with fine gold shimmer. NARS Sweet Revenge (P, $26.00) is lighter. MAC Spontaneous (LE, $20.00) is cooler-toned, lessy glossy. Giorgio Armani #524 (P, $29.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Naked (P, $19.00) is lighter. NARS Oasis (P, $25.00) is less shimmery. Chanel Troublant (LE, $32.00) is similar. Bobbi Brown Naked Plum (P, $24.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
I bought this after I fell in love with Dolly Full-Bodied Lipstick. There are some similarities between the gloss and the lipstick, but the gloss is sheerer, more shimmery, and has a lighter pink base–it’s not as warm-toned as the lipstick. The formula is supposed to be a “sheer, shimmering, hydrating gloss with a no-tingle plumping effect.” It’s exactly as described: it had sheer color payoff–noticeable color and shimmer but the natural lip color comes through quite a bit–with a non-sticky, hydrating formula that wears three hours on me. The consistency is lightweight, comfortable to wear, and doesn’t settle into lip lines.

This color has been on my radar for a while but I can’t decide if it will look good. I prefer lipstick to gloss. Christine, in your opinion, would the lipstick pull neutral/neutral warm on someone with very fair skin and pink undertones? I wouldn’t want it to look too orange. It looks perfect on you.
I think it might pull almost cooler-toned – I don’t think it will look orange, though.
Definitely like it over the lipstick far better. I was expecting greater pigmentation in the gloss itself. I love the look of gloss over lipstick but hate that it always seems to put a major screw in the longevity of my lipstick so I personally rarely apply it over. The touch ups are too complicated and annoying.
I think it looks more like the color in the tube over the lipstick – it looks a little muted/softened by itself.
I love Dolly, but that “no tingle” is a dealbreaker for me. That’s what I buy Buxoms for (and what it’s known for), so why they would make products without it puzzles me.
Well, as someone who often experiences dry, peeling, bleeding lips after using tingling, plumping products – there’s definitely a market for it 🙂
I’d prefer it. The Buxom I had burned my lips horribly, not tingled, and was nasty-sticky into the bargain.
Sadly, I had to give my sister all of my Buxom tingling lipglosses and lipsticks. This minty-tingling sensation caused me to have a runny nose all day long, which was very annoying and disrupting… It’s got something to do with my nose allergies, I guess, which really disappointed me about the formula, because I so LOVE the consistency of the products and the colors! Maybe I’ll now that they’ve removed the tingling effect I’ll be able to wear again Buxom lip products.
Have you tried the “Full Bodied” lip gloss from Buxom? They have no tingle effect to them. I own both the original tingle and non tingle Full Bodied glosses. Same consistency and yummy feel. I hope those work for you.
AHHHH!!!! I’m so happy to see you review a Buxom gloss!!! It is my absolute FAVORITE Formula!!! I tend to get a little bit better wear time, & find that it does a great job of “smoothing” out the lines in my lips, which are of similar fullness to yours, but considerably dryer!! I would LOVE to see more reviews from this & their regular lip polish formula!
I have this color in their regular, “tingly,” formula, & at least on my screen, this looks slightly warmer & slightly more pigmented, but it could just be the variation caused by lighting/screen display. Thank you as always!!
Glad you like yours in the Lip Polish! I have stayed away from it as most tingly, plumping formulas cause my lips to peel/bleed 🙁
Totally understand!! My lips aren’t terribly sensitive, but I find that their “plumping” formula is far, far gentler than most…it’s more of a cool, minty tingle, not a hot, peppery or cinnamon-y tingle….other plumbers dry my lips out, but theirs doesn’t at all! I would hate for you to have a bad reaction, but it might not cause the same problems as others you’ve tried!!!
Thanks for the info, Julie! Some formulas are fine, others aren’t, but I think it just depends on what ingredient they use to plump. Like a mint gloss is fine, even if it tingles!
I have a free deluxe sample of this coming from Sephora today! I think it was the code DOLLYLIP with a $35 purchase (or $25, I spent over $35 so I’m not sure). I have a lipstick similar to Dolly and I really want to try layering the two, it looks beautiful on you! Rich color, but a lovely shimmer.
Very nice! 😀
I love this on you Chiristine and always find my self gravitating towards colors like this! 🙂 The lipstick under it enhances the over all look with out altering the color in anyway! Love both!
Thank you! This definitely works well with the lipstick, since it is sheer – you don’t really need a full coverage gloss on top!
Chanel Troublant is one of my favorite lip glosses, so I was excited to see that this is similar! Just wish it wasn’t LE as Troublant is also LE!
I know! Troublant is such a gorg color!
I am pretty sure Dolly isn’t LE itself. This packaging of it is LE.
I’m not buying it, but it looks nice!
It is a nice color!
Oooh this looks cute on you, Christine! Your look here is so zen and well balanced 🙂
Aw, thank you!
I’m a little disappointed-it looked more opaque in the swatch.
It is a sheer formula (intentionally, that is!),
but if you prefer more opaque color, perhaps the Lip Polish range 🙂Nevermind, that is also a sheer formula, lol!
Omg! Christine, you look so beautiful in these pictures! Black is a great color on you, and your hair looks great! What eyeliner are you wearing by the way? I’m looking for a long wearing ultra black eyeliner for the waterline.
Thank you so much! It’s Hourglass’ new one.
This would make a great everyday gloss! Very soft and pretty. The formula sounds really good too. I need to try one of these soon!
It is very easy to wear – would layer over a lot of shades nicely!
I think I like it and that it might work for me. I’ll keep it mind for swatching.
Let me know if you end up trying it, Erin!
Buxom glosses are always a great choice. I’ve been lucky that I haven’t had to buy a full size because of so many GWP but there are a few I’ve had my eye one. Owned a mini of Dolly and its a great everyday gloss that goes well with many lip combos. 🙂
Ooh, you’re very lucky!
I am so tempted to get at least one of these. The color is such a pretty natural color. . . it looks really great. I’ve been more into brighter lip colors lately but this is really a nice looking color for a natural look. I’ll have to really eyeball them next time I’m at Sephora. . .
It would work well to tone down any brighter colors you have for when you want something just a bit more muted 😉
completely off the topic – I totally LOVE the earrings you wear. They are so pretty! I noticed a different pair a couple days ago, too. Very pretty!
Aw, thank you so much! 🙂 Almost all of them are from here – https://www.etsy.com/shop/bellaanelajewelry
I love it over the Dolly lipstick!!
It works well with it for sure!
Forgot to say -I am excited to try Dolly with my Naked Plum over it!!
Now I gotta try this combo!
How is Dolly lipstick compared to Amsterdam Full-On Lipstick?
I don’t think I have that!
Ooooh…. 😀 The gloss over the lipstick is something else! Your lips just look so… perfect, LOL! Pretty… (If I were a cartoon character I’d probably have spirals in my eyes right now or something) 😀
As a fellow lip-plumper disaster zone, I’m glad this has no ill effects!
Lip plumpers… ugh, such a scary prospect for me. They’re either totally fine or TOTALLY HORRIBLE!
Nice and easy colour! I wonder, does it look similar to MAC Cremesheen gloss in Deelight – with sparkle?
PS: I really like the eyelook on the first picture!
I think Deelight is warmer!
The gloss layered over the lipstick looks lovely on you!
Thanks, Ankita!
Have you tried the polish as well? I have a sample that I got from somewhere and am absolutely in love with, but it doesn’t say whether it’s the polish or the lipgloss.
I don’t think I picked it up!
