Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Studded Kiss Lipstick
Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “matte vivid hot pink.” It’s a brightened, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and an ultra-matte finish. This is no longer an uncommon color, so I’ve tried to zero in on really similar shades that have a more matte finish (so I didn’t consider satins, but there are other shades that are similar in color with a glossier finish as well). Marc Jacobs Beauty Pop-arazzi (606) (P, $28.00) is more muted, less blue-based. Melt Cosmetics Stupid Love (P, $19.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. Melt Cosmetics Shady Lady (P, $19.00) is darker. Chanel La Diva (44) (P, $34.00) is brighter. MAC Quick Sizzle (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $16.00) is less matte, brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
This shade has been the best-wearing of the matte finishes I’ve tried from the Studded Kiss range. It isn’t really creamy, so there’s a bit of tugging when the color is applied from the tube, but it doesn’t drag or apply unevenly–it also starts to glide a little better as it warms up against the lips. The color goes on and looks smooth and even, and it doesn’t feel thick or too clingy, despite how matte it is. It wears almost nine hours on me and leaves a stain behind, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. There’s no dreaded ring around the lip where the color has faded from the center, so even as it wears away, it is still wearable. It isn’t the most comfortable lipstick formula to wear, but it is fairly comfortable for such a long-wearing, matte product.

That is very matte but the color is awesome. I bought this in Adora (thanks, Christine!) and also Archangel, which is one of the matte reds. I think it’s awesome. Doesn’t feel that dry to me, I think it feels weightless. Maybe it’s less matte than this one, or maybe I’m just used to matte lipsticks.
Happy to hear that you’re having good luck with Adora and Archangel! They’re an upgrade from the general formulas of super matte lipsticks, I think, when they work (like Coven was bad, that was old school matte for me!).
I was excited with all the shades they launched! Not anymore, the whole range looks quite underwhelming for me especially on my dry lips! 🙁
Awwww 🙁
I am very much on the same page. I was really excited about the release, and now I am in possession of 2 of the shades which I picked up from Sephora. Along with the same order, I also grabbed the two semi-matte Givenchy LeRouge lipsticks for fall 2014 and … the difference in performance on me renders the KVD not even remotely in the same league. I’m so pleased with both LeRouge lipsticks and the KVD I find to be far too drying. I will not be picking up additional colours. I am very hopeful for the NARS.
Yeah, I feel the same way. Initially I thought I’d end up buying 5-7 of them, but after seeing swatches and reviews, and realizing I have dupes of a few of the shades I liked, I only bought Poe and don’t know if I’ll buy another.
Same here.
Honestly I’m so over these Candy Yum Yum-esque shades. It’s just a personal preference though, I never get tired of seeing reds LOL
Haha! I think I’d like to see a bit more variation on them.
Try the sephora luster matte cream in electro-pink…awesome formula and I’ve not seen another neon pink (and I have prob 30) that’s this color..brighter and bluer!
It is a very pretty, nice, bright, colour that makes me happy, but it’s not unique. I’m sure I have similar ones.
Looks very good on you, Christine.
I bet you do, Helene!
Phew, I’m glad I passed, I own two of your recommended dupes.
YAY! 🙂
The shade is definitely a stunner! It looks VERY hot on you Christine 🙂 and I like the fact that it is matte.. They stay forever without fading..
Thank you, Lancy!
The color is a bit bold ~ but oh .. the packaging!
Monica.
It is a bright one!
This colour is gorgeous.
It is a lovely color!
Great timing! I just snagged this in the old packaging for $11 on Sephora. I wonder if the formula is the same too…
Ooh, lucky you!
I love the fact that it’s so matte. Makes it more wearable!
Glad ya liked it!
I like how it isn’t a flat matte!
The finish looks nice on this shade!
The color is beautiful! It looks like this formula isn’t too kind on dry lips though. I’ll probably end up trying that pretty vampy one. It seemed like it was a little creamier
Yeah, it’s definitely not the most flattering formula for drier lips 🙁
This one looks awesome on you, Christine! I think the neon-ness of it might kind of take over my face though, heh 😉 I’ll stick to drooling over Poe, for now…
Thank you, Sylirael! 🙂 Poe is still a fave out of this range for me.
I love matte lipsticks, but this looks too matte (dry) for me.
It’s definitely a very matte shade!
The color looks amazing but flat mattes tend to age my lips. As much as I like the color, I don’t see myself wearing this finish.
I prefer satins myself, but mattes have their place!
I know it’s not an unusual colour however being that some of the dupes are too cool for me added with the wonderful finish, i’m in love with it!
Do you think this shade would work for a neutral to warm complexion Christine?
I think it would, Carly!
I love the version of this color in her liquid lipstick but the original reg shade of this didn’t look as awesome as this shade..LOVE ultra matte…
Do you think you’ll be getting one for yourself, Rachael?
