Givenchy Or Insolite (12) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as “gold.” It’s a light-medium gold with subtle yellow undertones–it’s almost a “cool” gold because it lacks really strong, yellow/orange warmth with lighter gold shimmer and sparkle. MAC My Fantasy (LE, $15.00) is a powder. MAC Cool Companions #1 (LE) is a powder, more metallic. MAC In the Meadow #2 (LE, $21.00) is more opaque, powder. Dior Pastel Fontanges #3 (LE) is a powder. Bobbi Brown Sunlight Gold (P, $28.00) is less sparkly. MAC Greenluxe #2 (P) is a powder, more metallic. Buxom Poodle (P, $18.00) is less sparkly. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Givenchy’s cream eyeshadow formula is supposed to wear for 16 hours, be waterproof, and “dry down to a powdery finish.” It’s also supposed to be “saturated.” This shade might intentionally be sheerer, but there’s no indication that that is the case–and it is unfortunately semi-sheer. It wasn’t buildable to more than moderate coverage, but it was never close to opaque color. It’s really just a wash of gold shimmer more than anything else, which can be a pretty look if that is what you’re opting for. I didn’t see any creasing for first twelve hours, but there was noticeable fall out after ten hours that worsened for the full sixteen hours I wore it. The way the cream eyeshadow dries down seems to make my eyelids look crepe-y–just more wrinkly than they really are, so it is not the most flattering texture.

It looks so pretty on you in the photo, Christine, that I’d never have guessed it was SO bad. I think it would be interesting to see how it did look at the end of your testing period (I recall you doing this with those Nars shadow pencils, I think – you showed just how creased and horrible they looked after quite a short time; if you’ll pardon the pun, it was a real “eye opener”).

Pity. It looks so lovely in the gorgeous packaging. It looks gorgeous on you. But who neeeds fall out and crepe-y eyelids.
The brand isn’t aavailable here. Seems I say so of so many brands. Sorry for repeating myself.

This is one of those ‘fairydust’ shades that looks so gorgeous..kind of ‘in theory’, but is difficult to use in practice. Kind of like Chanel Fantasme for me, actually. I love to use it as a body glitter (I get so many compliments when I use it super sheerly on my collarbones for a night out!), buy on the eyelids it can e quite hard to get a real effect from!
