Givenchy Or Insolite (12) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches
Givenchy Or Insolite (12) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow
Givenchy Or Insolite (12) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as “gold.” It’s a light-medium gold with subtle yellow undertones–it’s almost a “cool” gold because it lacks really strong, yellow/orange warmth with lighter gold shimmer and sparkle. MAC My Fantasy (LE, $15.00) is a powder. MAC Cool Companions #1 (LE) is a powder, more metallic. MAC In the Meadow #2 (LE, $21.00) is more opaque, powder. Dior Pastel Fontanges #3 (LE) is a powder. Bobbi Brown Sunlight Gold (P, $28.00) is less sparkly. MAC Greenluxe #2 (P) is a powder, more metallic. Buxom Poodle (P, $18.00) is less sparkly. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Givenchy’s cream eyeshadow formula is supposed to wear for 16 hours, be waterproof, and “dry down to a powdery finish.” It’s also supposed to be “saturated.” This shade might intentionally be sheerer, but there’s no indication that that is the case–and it is unfortunately semi-sheer. It wasn’t buildable to more than moderate coverage, but it was never close to opaque color. It’s really just a wash of gold shimmer more than anything else, which can be a pretty look if that is what you’re opting for. I didn’t see any creasing for first twelve hours, but there was noticeable fall out after ten hours that worsened for the full sixteen hours I wore it. The way the cream eyeshadow dries down seems to make my eyelids look crepe-y–just more wrinkly than they really are, so it is not the most flattering texture.

Such a pretty color I wish it had a better texture and staying power! looks beautiful on you in the second picture!
Me too! Though 16 hours is a tough claim to live up to, regardless!
the swatches look terrible. pass. this formula seems to be very hit and miss
It does! I feel like the shimmery shades are the most likely to miss.
Pretty in the packaging but ugh!
Right? Sad times!
It looks so pretty on you in the photo, Christine, that I’d never have guessed it was SO bad. I think it would be interesting to see how it did look at the end of your testing period (I recall you doing this with those Nars shadow pencils, I think – you showed just how creased and horrible they looked after quite a short time; if you’ll pardon the pun, it was a real “eye opener”).
The wear on this wasn’t so bad in the grand scheme of things (in a general “long wear” world), just bad when it is supposed to be 16 hours of wear and then obviously it was sheerer so that was a big drop in points, too!
Oh, the swatch…
🙁
Ohhhh boy this is pretty. I mean, it sounds TERRIBLE, but it looks amazing! 😛
LOL!
Boooo 🙁 What a letdown.
I know 🙁
OY! Too bad it’s not very good it looked like it had promise.
I was hopeful!
Pity. It looks so lovely in the gorgeous packaging. It looks gorgeous on you. But who neeeds fall out and crepe-y eyelids.
The brand isn’t aavailable here. Seems I say so of so many brands. Sorry for repeating myself.
I really don’t like when products make my lids look crepe-y, because they’re pretty smooth otherwise, so I’m like, “Geez!”
This is one of those ‘fairydust’ shades that looks so gorgeous..kind of ‘in theory’, but is difficult to use in practice. Kind of like Chanel Fantasme for me, actually. I love to use it as a body glitter (I get so many compliments when I use it super sheerly on my collarbones for a night out!), buy on the eyelids it can e quite hard to get a real effect from!
I’ll have to try Fantasme as body glitter! Thank you for the idea 😀
thanks for the re-purposing tip. I have a couple of these ‘fairydust’ cream shadows which don’t work for me in the eye area.
I had been eyeing these, glad I read your review first. Even though it doesn’t perform well, it looks pretty on your lids in the pictures.
Happy to help! 🙂
Looks very pretty on you! This is the type of thing that would look plain awful on me no matter what though.
Aw 🙁
This looks so delicate and beautiful lol. I really love how soft it looks
