Sneak Peek: MAC Studio Nail Lacquers Photos & Swatches

MAC Studio Nail Lacquer
MAC Studio Nail Lacquer — Rebel, Sour Cherry, Shirelle

MAC Studio Nail Lacquer is a newly reformulated nail polish that features not just a new formula but a new design that is wider than MAC’s previous brush. The bottle itself has the same look and feel with a rubberized black cap and a clear glass bottle. MAC has decreased the price (but the size is the same, 0.34 fl. oz.) to $12.00. There will be 27 shades in total, all permanent, plus two top coats and one base coat. Full reviews, photos, swatches, and so on to come. Stay tuned!

They lowered the price and kept the same number of ounces?!?! *jaw hits the desk* I really like this! Not the most unique colors ever, but if the formula is good I would definitely check a few out.

Nice collection of colours..love Rebel, no surprise. Since I have never been a fan of the old formula (or the lame price point for the dismal quality–as in I can name at least a dozen better priced/quality contenders out there), your reviews are going to be really interesting to me. Photo wise, these look quite nice…except for some of the chunky glitters, but that’s hardly a unique issue for that type of polish.

For the colors that have the same names and seemingly same colors as lipsticks could you please please please show them together to see if they are the same color? Having a lipstick that actually matches my nails is my dream and somehow with 150 bottles I still don’t have a match.

Hi Arielle,

I did this when MAC released these shades before (Fashion Sets) 🙂 You can go through those old posts, as they were sets of lipglass, lipstick, and nail lacquer. Most of the time, the nail lacquer didn’t match, just as a heads up. If there are any color differences from new vs. old formula, those will be indicated in the individual reviews.

Almost all of them are really pretty (some are just not my cup of tea). I like Formidable and Rain of Flowers the most, but I’m not sure if I would wear them. Rebel & Anti Fashion are also very nice.

I already own Anti-Fashion. It’s a nice color for the fall!

Mostly though, I just love that the price has been lowered to $12. I always felt like $16 was too much. I might actually consider buying a couple of these now.

I cant believe that they are bringing back Rain of Flowers!!!!! It’s my favorite nail polish that I own, but rarely use it because it is limited edition!!! I AM SO HAPPY!!!!

Every single one of these looks beautiful, I’m really curious about how long-wearing they are. I’m glad they’ve reduced the price point too.

Kudos to MAC for finally realizing that they’d hit a bad price point on the polish. (They never had the range or the quality to be priced more than Butter London or Illamasqua, in my opinion.) I’m actually interested in Formidable, given the change in price. I’m going to wait for a review, but yay.

Would have never considerd that before, given that most of the range were basic shades, and the formula was all over the place. I’d definitely buy a more unique shade that rated good or better at $12, though!

Christine Avatar

I always look at it like… why is your nail polish more expensive than your standard lipstick? It usually seems that brands price their polishes just under their entry level lipstick, though MAC has certainly pushed the price points of their lip products up past the $15 mark as well.

Helene Avatar

I’ve never looked at MAC nail polishes, no idea why, but it could be the price. After seeing the swatches I must have a close look at them, but I already know I must have Rain of Flowers.

Mariella Avatar

There are quite a few here that I like and some that look so rough-textured that they’d snag my clothing! Rebel, Sour Cherry and Snob really appeal to me, as does Delicate though I wonder if I would be able to apply it without any streaks. How did you get such a lovely, perfect finish on a sheer polish, Christine???

Cat Avatar

Glad MAC finally wised up and dropped the price point and reformulated the line. Poor quality + high price is a fast way to lose customers, especially right now with nail polish, given there are a billion other brands out there waiting to take your money. Very interested to see how these perform!
