Lipstick Queen Jungle Queen Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “papaya coral.” It’s a brightened, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a soft shine. Illamasqua Soaked (P, $26.00) is more orange. Bite Beauty Blood Orange (LE, $24.00) is more matte. Tom Ford Beauty Firecracker (06) (LE, $49.00) is a touch darker. Givenchy Carmin Escarpin (306) (P, $36.00) is darker, redder. Maybelline Orange Edge (LE, $7.49) is darker. MAC Sail La Vie (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The formula is supposed to be “semi-sheer” and moisturizing with a “hint of luminescence.” It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the only way I could achieve “semi-sheer” color is if I only applied color to the bottom lip, then pressed my lips together, and used a lip brush to even it out–which is really how one might get sheerer coverage out of any fuller coverage formula. For some, this might be a happy accident, for others, it may make this shade to bold or rich. The consistency is lightly creamy, a bit emollient, so it glides on easily and applies the color evenly, but it’s not thick or heavy on. It lasted for five hours on me, and it left behind a soft stain, though it was just lightly hydrating for me.

There are definitely things that others love on me that I think look hideous on me, and of course, vice versa. It’s nice when someone likes what you like on yourself, but it’s not a big deal if someone doesn’t. 🙂 In the end, that’s why we have to wear makeup we like on ourselves, because it’s what we’ll feel most comfortable and confident in. On the blog, I review an assortment of shades, so I don’t pay too much attention to what it looks like on me as an individual, lol!

Oh, I didn’t mean that! Sorry! I just see so many shades on you and this sort of shade is usually amazing on you. This one wasn’t quite up there with some past ones…so it was more not hitting a high bar as opposed to not liking it. That Hourglass Muse seems like a similar color and that one just blew me away on you…and you’ve had some other amazing ones lately (the Dior Fluid sticks, lighter – the YSL coral Kiss & Blush which was perfect).
I guess I should watch my wording more carefully!!!

I expected this formula to be more like Mideval or Jean Queen which are both quite sheer but give lovely hints of color.

It takes great effort to sheer this one down, lol! There are definitely some sheerer formulations that can build to more opaque color if you apply enough, but man, I felt like you have to barely apply and blot it down to get that “semi-sheer” color!

This looks stunning! I’m really intrigued by the brand as well – I hope you review more Lipstick Queen shades, Christine!

I wish they would’ve sent you more, like Medieval and at least one Saint and Sinner. I finally broke down and bought Medieval and Saint Pinky Nude after trying Hello Sailor on. I like the way the LQ formula feels on the lips, so if there are more comfortable lipstick formulas that aren’t super opaque or greasy-feeling, I’d love to hear about them!

Deetzi Avatar

I love Medieval and I bought it thinking it was the orangey version. It’s not – it is full coverage so if you are looking for a sheer wash, keep looking!

Hmmm, oranges and corals don’t look super good on me but the packaging and name are definitely doing it for me! I might have to try it on, at least (even though it’s basically winter here now). Actually, it kinda looks similar to Nars Niagra now that I think about it which is a colour I like with a formula I (weirdly) don’t like, for some reason.

I like this. I might try it as I like my lipsticks to be more opaque than sheer. If i’d not read this I wouldn’t have thought about it.
That said, it is very annoying when you get misled into thinking you’re buying a sheer product, and it turns out to be not sheer at all, and the other way around, of course.

This is the coral lipcolor I have been looking for. Most brands’ corals or even orange based reds are just way too goofy looking on me and clearly not meant for my skintone (UD Bang was a pretty sad disappointment for me). Happy to have such a beautiful color and an equally pretty looking lipstick bullet. 🙂

pretty, but wouldn’t look good on me with the bright red hair :p also why is there such a big price difference between this one and the last one you reviewed?
