Does your fragrance change as the seasons change?

For the most part, yes, as I like heavier scents that can often seem too much during the day time on hot days! I’m still hunting for some favorites for summer, though.

Not really. I’m really picky when it comes to fragrances, so when I fall in love with a scent, I wear it continuously until I just happen to fall in love with a new fragrance. I try to rotate the ones I own, but I usually choose just by which scent I prefer that day and don’t consider the seasons at all.

I don’t think it’s as much a matter of seasons, but being aware of who I am and what scents enhance, represent, and exemplify that in an even flow of positivity for me. Seasons are known to affect millions of people’s moods. I prefer allowing fragrance to keep me as myself no matter what the season. I tend to cross boundaries as well. I have a large collection that’s dear to me, as fragrance is quite close to me, and because winter can feel heavy or darker, I’ll balance it with something possibly used as a summer fragrance. (For instance) I don’t let anything define me, other than my self. 🙂 Fragrance & color are, I believe, ultimate therapeutic catharsis for harmony in the self in any season, any circumstance. 😀

That’s very interesting! That sounds very appealing to find/create a scent that exemplifies or harmonizes not only with your natural chemicals but with your personality, but honestly, I would not know where to start or how to find the right one. I would assume that requires a level of self awareness that most people don’t possess.

Lotus Avatar

Thank you, Mallory. I’m deeply humbled. 🙂 The journey is a beautiful one with much to contend with, yet I feel much passion through this way of life. You do know where to start if you believe it. 🙂 <3 xo

Nope. I rarely wear more than a single spray of anything so I don’t really have issues with feeling overwhelmed by my fragrance. I find that wearing the same scent in different weather can really change the way I perceive a scent too.

And in any case, I own a lot of scents because I love variety. Only wearing certain fragrances in certain seasons is too limiting for me. 🙂

Sunny Avatar

Yes. I have a “perfume wardrobe” and I display the season-appropriate scents on the top of my “vanity (it isn’t really one but let’s call it that way).” In general, I reach for EDPs more often in winter and EDTs in summer, but it depends a lot on the scent as well.

I agree, it’s hard for me to stop wearing my amber scents come spring/summer! You ought to try some Jo Malone – I love her Earl Grey and Cucumber – as most of her scents are probably classified as summer scents.

I usually tend to go for floral or fruity scents just about always, but during the winter I seem to have a preference for more softer scents (such as Tocca’s Guilietta, Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist, or even Lady Gaga’s Fame) whereas towards the summer I like stronger scents (just about anything from Marc Jacobs like Dot, Honey, Daisy, Daisy Eau so Fresh). I just like my scents to linger during the summer or hot season really.

Generally speaking. No. I wear a lot of different scents and I gravitate and prefer heavier scents on me. Fruity flowery concoctions just don’t cut it against my body chemistry. In the heat, I just tend to wear fragrance less often and pare back on the application. I do have some scents I will not wear in the spring/summer because they are just too much.

Yeah…when it’s spring, I do some classic florals like l’air du temps +marilyn miglin destiny, but when summer’s up, it’s sea scents all the way, like creed erolfa, comptoir motu, heeley sel marin. I try to avoid fruity notes, ’cause this is north atlantic coast + hardly ipanema. Citrus is ok, but no other fruits. Want to branch out into some niches, like BPAL Cthulu (Can’t say it, much less spell it) + CB At the Beach 1966. That one would be true nostalgia for me…smells like coppertone + salt water.

LU Avatar

No. I wear one perfume till it runs out, and I always purchase similar fragrances. I buy the smaller sizes so I can purchase a new one after about 6-8 months. I rarely repurchase fragrances as well.

Erica Avatar

I do switch to white florals in the Spring and Summer, but I tend to let my mood dictate my fragrance choice regardless of season. It’s still cold and very damp in my region so I’m still wearing my heavier amber scents from Hermes and Shanghai Lily, a spicy/musky scent from Tom Ford.

For me, some are year-round and some are seasonal.
SPRING: Lily of the valley, lilac, cassie (Tauer Carillon Pour un Ange, Frederic Malle En Passant & Une Fleur de Cassie)
SUMMER: Citrus, green scents (Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier, Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine, Ormonde Jayne Frangipani)
FALL: Spicy rose (OJ Ta’if, Tauer Incense Rose, SL La Fille de Berlin, Neela Vermiere Mohur); also Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay
WINTER: Woods, spices, booze, evergreen (Diptyque Tam Dao, Mona di Orio Vanille, OJ Orris Noir, Lubin Idole EDT, SL Une Voix Noire, OJ Woman)
YEAR ROUND: Vero Profumo Rubj EDP (passionfruit & cumin) and Mito EDP (green, magnolia, damp stone); FM Lys Mediterranee (ginger lily, saltwater); l’Artisan Seville a l’Aube (orange blossom, lavendar, beeswax, incense); other white florals including SL A la Nuit; NV Bombay Bling–hmm, a lot of these I wear spring, summer, and fall but not winter.

I’ve received numerous compliments on the newest fragrance from Bulgari, Indian Garnet. There’s no body lotion yet, so I combine it with Jo Malone’s Nectarine Blossom and Honey body cream. Luscious! I also like Victoria’s Secret Angel Gold, and the latest fragrance from Cartier, La Panthere. I usually do fragrances which are a a tad bit more floral for the summer, but I have a tendency to wear all of my favorites all year long.

Jan Kelley Avatar

Not really. I’m pretty sensitive to most perfumes. If I were perfume it’s either Fresh Cream by Philosophy or La Vanilla, Pure Vanilla. Neither of which have any real lasting power. I do love fragrances but I don’t like the headaches or the sneezing.

klee Avatar

In the summer, I like something fresh and citrusy, so I always turn to Annick Goutal’s Eau d’Hadrien. It’s lemony with a hint of grapefruit, and instantly cools me down.
Fall/winter is Comptoir Sud Pacifique Matin Calin, which is a sugary vanilla.

I would have to say that I have a perfume wardrobe. I change my perfumes first by seasons. I have so many perfumes that I could wear a different sent everyday and not repeat it in a two week spand. I love love love perfume. I’m getting their with makeup. Makeup is a big challenge for me but I’m learning.

AudreyNZ Avatar

Definitely. I crave to smell like a flower shop in Spring/Summer. Summer just past, the closest scent to a flower shop I could get was Dolce & Gabbana Rose the One but hmmm, not quite what I had in mind. I read that Jo Malone Red Roses is known to smell like a flower shop. Can anyone confirm on that? It’s quite a drive away (2 hrs) to the Jo Malone store. That’ll be on my Christmas list:) which happens to be in Summer.

Deborah Avatar

Nah – I am so picky about fragrances – My last favorite was Ferragamo Incanto Shine. Now it’s the sporty new fragrance by Michael Kors.

Amanda Avatar

Normally my fragrance changes as the seasons change – lighter florals for spring/summer, heavy vanilla and sandalwood and heavier florals for fall/winter. But last spring/summer I discovered Marc Jacobs Dot and fell in love – I’ve been wearing it nonstop ever since!

kurohana Avatar

It does change but I wont purchase a new scent until i finish one i already have. I’ve been wearing Thymes Clary Sage Tea and once i finish that I’m on the hunt for something more else.

Danielle Avatar

I don’t really wear fragrance in the fall and winter. But once it starts to seem more springy here, I whip out Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. It’s really the only fragrance I like.

Rae Avatar

Oh, absolutely! I’ve become weirdly attached to L’Occitane Néroli & Orchidée for the spring — it doesn’t have the best tenacity, but it’s wonderfully fruity without being obnoxiously sweet.

If you’re still on the lookout for a summer scent, I remember really liking LUSH’s Sikkim Girls last year! (I haven’t worn it since, though — it’s quite out of place in the fall and winter). Balenciaga Paris is lovely in the spring/summer transition, too — and L’Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons for something really airy.

I change my fragrances with the seasons. In the spring, I like light florals and gourmand fragrances. I like the light refreshing scents and how they bring spring to me. In the summer, I wear headier florals because everything is blooming, and I like how refreshing they are in the hot humid area I live in. I also use more fragrance oils, they last longer on me. In the fall, I wear mostly Orientals, that blend of florals that are richer as well as an incense under notes start to prepare me for the winter. In the winter, I wear headier floral blends that incorporate a spicy bottom note. The scents I wear in the winter are more classics, like Lanvin My Sin, YSL Opium, and Karl Lagerfeld Sun, Moon, and Stars. The richness of the blends seems to tie into the lusher fabrics of the season. I love fragrance. It’s the one of the thing I wear every day, even if I am not wearing cosmetics. I don’t feel dressed unless I am wearing perfume or cologne.
