MAC Ocean City Blush Ombre Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Ocean City Blush Ombre
MAC Ocean City Blush Ombre ($30.00 for 0.49 oz.) is described as a “coral orange ombre into beige.” It’s a medium-dark orange with warm, red undertones and a satin-matte finish. NARS Exumas (P, $39.00) is lighter, cream. Make Up For Ever #420 HD Blush (P, $26.00) is more muted, cream. MAC Passion for Colour (LE, $20.00) is lighter, pinker. Chanel Presage (62) (LE, $38.00) is a touch lighter, cream. theBalm Swiss Dot (P, $22.00) is similar–slightly more matte. NYX Cinnamon (P, $5.00) is also similar. NARS Gilda (P, $29.00) is similar. MAC Early Morning (LE, $25.00) is redder. MAC Fiery Impact (LE, $25.00) is darker, more shimmery. Chanel Frivole (P, $43.00) is less red. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
The texture was fairly soft and finely-milled, and the color payoff was moderately pigmented. The color payoff was more buildable than intense, so it will show up on deeper skin tones but can be easily applied for a softer look if you are fairer. Though I tried to play with the “ombre effect,” the color always seemed to be quite orange-red. It was easy to apply, blended well and looked even on the skin, while the color lasted for almost eight hours on me.
P.S. — Readers are reporting that they received the opposite blush than they ordered. I ordered one of each, and I received one of each, but it’s hard to say if they were technically “switched” when packed.

Gorgeous colour on you Christine! It seems like no matter the sade, all blushers suit you well – how lucky! I will pass on this, though; I already have enough blushers in this shade and the ombre effect seems to be more of a packaging gimmick rather than having a real effect on the product… :/
Aww, thank you, June! 🙂
Oh this reminds me of a similar blush by Estee Lauder. The packing makes it look like a Laura Mercier blush! Very pretty
I think MAC did it first, then EL put out one as well between then and now!
I was a good girl and didn’t order these blushes. Honest the ombre on these where not that special and I prefer to see a peach to pink one like Ripe Peach but more pigmented. 😉
I don’t think there’s a whole lot of impact from the “ombre” of it – like I expected to be able to lighten, but it just seemed more one color in the end.
Yeah, both of them read like that from online swatches I’ve seen. lol
Even though it’s got beige as the other end of the gradient, I had hopes it would be even slightly similar to Ripe Peach from Colour Forecast… 🙁 🙁 🙁
Also, is it really that close to Cinnamon? I’m going to stare at the dupes for a good ten minutes. JEEZ!!!
Yes, it is similar to Cinnamon!
I want this so much… Hope it releases in Australia soon.
Fingers crossed!
Thank u for a great review! If you had to choose between this and chanel presage which one would be your pick?
Chanel Presage! It’s not even a contest.
How does Ocean City compare with Ripe Peach?
Ripe Peach is lighter, pinker, less red.
As always, your comparison swatches are so invaluable.. I have this territory covered in cream and powder format.. 😀 Ombre effect is pretty in the pan and always draws my eye in.
You and I are probably set on coral… everything for life.
The blush looks stunning on you and the Dior Magique on the lips wow! Wat is your rating on the lip product? Everything i see on you is always so beautyful that i have to have it ;-).
As always, keep up the good work! Greetings from the Netherlands xxx
Hi Priscilla,
I haven’t reviewed the lip product yet, so you won’t see a rating until then! 🙂
I think the ombre effect makes the blush look discolored from the light.
I actually like the fact that it’s not too pigmented. I’m looking forward to your review on the second blush!
The review for the second blush will be up shortly, but brace yourself!
Thanks for the post Christine! 🙂 Is it similar to Marine Life at all?
Marinfe Life is a bit lighter and more shimmery 🙂
I love the gradient effect in the pan, very pretty. But on the skin it doesn’t seem to do much. Which is fine, because the color still looks really lovely.
I wish you could lighten/darker more!
I love the BLUSH OMBRE texture from first release so much. I wish MAC would make it permanent. Can you tell me if this is the same texture? Can you remember maybe? I think it was comparable with BLACK HONEY as well and quite similar to ESTEE LAUDER new one.
Unfortunately this was an department store exclusive in Germany and I think it wasn’t available online, Such a pitty. I would really like to have both but I the last thing I do is pay 1 cent more than retails on eBay. Won’t support that practice 😛
The texture seems a little more powdery to me, softer in a way, but it doesn’t feel substantially different!
Thank you 🙂
“P.S. — Readers are reporting that they received the opposite blush than they ordered. I ordered one of each, and I received one of each, but it’s hard to say if they were technically “switched” when packed.”
Call the number and tell them if u haven’t already. I ordered hoop lipglass and was sent glam, they told me to keep it and also gave me a full refund and an apology letter.
They should’ve known this one would’ve been the most hyped up one, I.E., more stock needed!
Hopefully they do the same in this situation, but from what I’ve heard, it sounds like it’s a LOT of orders 🙁
Not what I expected. It’s a bright color for my complexion, maybe it would be a fun color for a summer tan. I also have MUFE HD #420. I was a bit sad at first that i didn’t get my hands on this one.
I don’t think you’re missing out!
Sooo pretty! Shame the ombre doesn’t have much of an effect though.
It would be more versatile if it did! The orange just eats the beige!
It is a pretty shade!
It is!
Thank God it doesn’t appeal to me too much. In our polish web store those blushes were “available soon” at first, and then they immediately became “sold out”. What a bummer. :-/
There seems to be some issue with the availability of these this time!
Pretty on you..too orange for me. 😉
It’s not too impressive so you’re not missing out!
what a difference compared to the other shade, yikes! this is so much better!
Right? So crazy!
My blush was switched as well–I ordered Sunset Beach but ONLY because the MAC site said they were sold out of Ocean City—I was pleasantly surprised to receive Ocean City yesterday. I didn’t even notice the name at first and was looking at the compact thinking that Sunset Beach was way more orange than it looked on the internet. lol. After seeing your review of Sunset Beach, I am extra glad for the mixup.
At least the switch worked out for you!
Love that they’ve done an ombre blush – nice to see something different instead of the usual formats! Have to say though I hate the words of PS on the packaging – the font looks really cheap :’)
x
They actually did this before – maybe 2009 or 2010? ish.
Such beautiful packaging and product, but I’m just not sold on the color! There’s nothing really unique about it that’s standing out to me… Then again, most people do buy mac things like this JUST for the packaging lol Not sure I want to drop $30 on this.
Well, at least it is a very large-sized blush for the price point!
This is such a lovely shade…I am so tempted to grab it…:-)
Happy to hear you liked it!
I was so waiting for this one but got the wrong shade sent as most! 🙁 Hopefully will get the right one! I really didnt like sunset beach but this will work for me!
Hope they fix it!
It definitely looks gorgeous in the pan and on you!! So summery
Thank you!
Maybe it is my computer screen but it doesn’t appear that much of a gradient….no where near as pronounced as the Estee Lauder ombre I have, and darker, dirtier looking than the spring colour forecasts with the famous Ripe Peach. A bit disappointing:(
It is dominated by the orange, IMO!
Ocean City sounds much better! The color is gorgeous too! I ordered mine from Nordstrom thank goodness. But it’s supposedly backordered until May 2nd. I hope it ships sooner though. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Can’t wait ’til you get yours, Fancie!
The colour is pretty, but for the moment I’ll keep playing with Peach Pop for ‘orange’ on me! I’m glad this one performed a bit better than its sister blush!
So glad you got Peach Pop to play with!
Yaaaay! So glad I already have the NYX dupe Cinnamon. Money saved 😀
Yay!!
Meh~
Aw!
It looks perfect on you, but I am partial to the original Ombre Blushes, do I don’t see anything new or necessary in this. Not for me, at least. 🙂
Looks great on you! Do you think this would work on a NW40/NW45 skin tone?
Yes!
Is this similar to Modern Mandarin? Just bought that and waiting on this so will return MM if it’s just as orange!
Modern Mandarin is a lot more shimmery! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=164287&dupe=162286
This one looks nice on you! Too bad the ombre isn’t more obvious on the skin!
That would be interesting if it was more apparent!
Beautiful! Christine is this similar to NARS Torrid? I hope so because I’ll kick myself for not ordering this!
I think Torrid might be lighter? I’m not sure I have it!
Pretty!
Yay!
how does this compare to ripe for love?
Ripe for Love is a lot more shimmery! 🙂 http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=164287&dupe=114788
This is so lovely! Dior Magique looks awesome on you with this blush.
Thanks, Phyrra!
In regards to Mac shipping the wrong color I can say this happened to me … I ordered it when it launched on line within seconds and I was so excited to receive my package “I ordered 2 of ocean city by the way” so when I finally get my box 4 days later they were the pink blushes in ” sunset beach boy was I mad because all Mac stores around my area had sold out of the coral blush I contacted Mac they appologized and said I can keep them for the inconvenience and they would refund me … But I’m still out in my coral blush :((
Awwww!!
How does this compare with Rhianna’s hibiscus kiss? Thanks so much Christine I’m thinking about ordering Ocean City but I’m a little skeptical thanks
The blush portion I’m assuming – it is lighter, pinker! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=164287&dupe=120897
Mac sent me the wrong blush too. Sent me sunset beach instead of ocean city, they will know 4/28 if they are getting more ocean city, if so they will send out the blush. Or credit my account. A huge mess
Aww!
Im glad I got the beach city blush. I thought I had something similar but I went home and played makeup and I do not. its very pretty! in my opinion a staple blush.
Yay!!
Swatched it today in store and i think the ombre has some variation….the one in store e.g. had more of a 50/50 divide between the beige and the coral than the one on your pic…they also swatched destinctively different on my nw20 skin..allthough swirled together the colour leaned strongly towards the coral shade! I decided not to get it in the end bcs it was too similar to other coral or beigy neutral blushes i already own
Happy to hear that the version you tested had more variation!
How does this compare with Nars LE Final Cut blush in Final Cut? If I could only get one…which do you recommend?
Final Cut is lighter, more matte, less red! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=164287&dupe=158443
Probably Final Cut!
This is so beautiful on you, Christine! Too bad I missed out; I was so ready for it!
Thank you, Abigail!
