Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
Too Faced Melted Violet Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick
Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a new (and permanent) formula that’s supposed to have “intensely saturated lip color with a precise tip applicator.” Too Faced says it has “the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick.” The consistency is light-medium–not too thick but not runny or watery–and is squeezed out of the tube through a flocked, angled applicator. All of the shades below were richly pigmented, and it seemed like a little went a long way, so don’t squeeze too much at once. The application of the colors was smooth, and each shade delivered even, opaque color that didn’t settle into lip lines or feather/bleed outside of the natural lip line. They wore for hours and hours (actual wear time noted below), and they were neither drying nor hydrating over time. The finish is a satin, which turns to a matte after three to four hours of wear, but they never fully set, so these aren’t transfer-proof. Here are the first three that I tested, with the next set to come soon–stay tuned!
Too Faced Melted Violet Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “violet orchid.” It’s a medium, magenta purple with a satin finish. The color coverage was totally opaque, and it applied evenly. It lasted for six and a half hours and left behind a stain. MAC RiRi Boy (LE, $16.00) is more muted, more matte. MAC Seductive Intent (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Up the Amp (P, $16.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Too Faced Melted Fuchsia Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “hot pink.” It’s a blindingly bright fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It had full color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly without feathering outside the natural lip line. It lasted for eight hours and a stain lingered for hours after. Ardency Inn Twist (P, $25.00) is slightly more muted. Maybelline Hot Plum (P, $7.49) is darker. MAC Rare Exotic (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Pink Pigeon (LE, $16.00) is less blue-based, more muted. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pretty Boy (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Too Faced Melted Ruby Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “blood red.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark cherry red with cool, pinky undertones and a satin finish. This shade was slightly glossier than the other two, but it still had the same rich, intense pigmentation. The consistency was a little thinner, so I felt like it wasn’t quite as easy to apply as the other two. It wore well for eight hours and again, a stain lingered for a few hours after. Chanel La Precieuse (317) (LE, $34.00) is more matte. MAC Glam (DC, $16.00) is a touch lighter. NARS Luxembourg (P, $25.00) is more matte. Maybelline Very Cherry (P, $7.49) is darker. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Dior Marilyn (LE, $36.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #43 (P, $19.00) is not quite as blue-based. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

These are stunning and intense!!
They are sooo pigmented!
They are a lot nicer than I expected them to be! 🙂
Don’t LOVE the applicator, but I was surprised at how comfy these were to wear!
This is the first time I’ve tried a product before Temptalia AND we came to the same conclusions about it! WInning
That’s great!
I almost got one of these recently then thought I should wait for your review! Might go back and get one, though I’m not sure if I could pull any of these off.
They are really bright, so you have to love your brights!
please do a review on melted peony and melted coral, those are the two colors i was considering to buy because the others were to bright and too much for me, it was too non wearable and i look horrible in hot pinks/reds/purples. people say that orange looks good on my skin tone (im a really pale asian) and i would like to know if creme cup by mac or nude creme by milani is a dupe to melted peony.
Hey Valerie!
I think I mentioned it in the first paragraph, but this is part one, and I’ll have the remainder reviewed in part two!
Probably skipping all of these shades due to already owning similarly-colored products, but the texture and wear seem really nice.
I remember there was a Sephora-exclusive Melted Candy shade, but I can’t find it anymore so I guess it’s sold out (and you won’t be reviewing it)?
I just have the six permanent shades that Too Faced sent, so I don’t have that one or know anything about it, sorry! 🙁
Figures, thanks!
I didn’t even know there was a Sephora exclusive 🙁
It was a VIB-Rouge exclusive. You have to be logged on as a Rouge member to see it. Looks like it is sold out though.
I have it and it is nothing like melted fuschia at all (have that one too)..i wish it hadnt sold out, it is absolutely gorgeous!
OMG I want all 3…So gorgeous!
Uh oh! 😉
Pretty colors!
Which is your favorite, Anna?
Fuchsia, but ruby is also very nice 🙂
Wow – these are SO MUCH prettier than I thought! My wallet is crying from my latest purchase, so I guess I’ll have to wait on these. 🙁
Hope you had a wonderful Easter!! <3
Thankfully they’re permanent, so you have time!
Melted Ruby is AMAZING! I may have to pick up that shade!
It’s gorgeous!
Gosh, Christine, it’s amazing how easy you pull off super fierce shades like these three! They look amazing on you.
Aww, thank you! xo
Who likes playing blind mice because that’s the state I’m in right now: blinded by the neon colours and Christine’s flashing smile.
I really want Melted Ruby; it seems like I can pare it down to be a less intense stain for a newbie like me (and 0.5% because I’m a sucker for exotic product names; damn you the power of branding and markerting!!!)
Oh, yes, you can definitely apply just a tiny bit and blend across the lips as well. It’s very blendable/spreadable since it has a more liquid consistency!
I’ve been patiently waiting to see if you would review thes, so I’m happy to see “temptalia recommends.” That fuschia is gorgeous! Looking forward to reading the review for the rest!
They’re SO long-wearing that just the testing took forever, unfortunately!
Christine, can these be applied more lightly with good results. I just don’t like my lips entering a room 30 seconds before the rest of me and these seem so intense and bright but I might love them if they can be applied more lightly but still last and be fairly even.
Yes, they definitely can with the deeper shades! You can easily apply more as a stain.
Just what I was hoping to hear. Melted Ruby, wait for me…I’ll be there soon to pick you up and bring you home!
these look great… just wondering, in your opinion… how similar Melted Violet is to OCC’s Rollergirl? from your pictures, MV looks more vibrant and i just wanted to know if it’s pointless to have both. many thanks!
Hey Yvette!
Here’s a side-by-side: http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=163981&dupe=154780
Rollergirl is darker, wayyy less pink/magenta, so I think they’re more different than alike!
THANKS! this helped my decision greatly 🙂
Christine, how do these compare coverage and texture-wise to OCC Lip Tars? I really love the look of them, but I don’t want to shell out for a redundant product, since I already have a ton of Lip Tars.
The texture is thicker, not quite as matte, as Lip Tar. These are slightly more comfortable to wear over the long haul than Lip Tars, though. If you LOVE Lip Tars, I don’t think you need these at all.
Awesome, thank you! I really do love the way these look though… I might pick pick one up anyways! :3
Wow! Holy intense richness. Must check out other shades..
They’re SO pigmented!
Pretty but I have similar colors in my stash…
They are dupable!
It appears that L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints might be dupes for these Too Faced products, although I only own the L.A. Girl ones so I can’t say for sure. The best thing is that they are only $4 each! Luckily, I got them all before they went “out of stock” on their website. I still want to try the Too Faced ones, though, because you can never have too many lip products! 🙂
I have both, but based on preliminary swatching, they don’t seem to be the same (Too Faced’s formula is less glossy, thinner) and the colors don’t line up (again, very preliminary). I just received my LA Girl order today, so I haven’t gotten into them too much yet.
I would love to see a review of the LA girl ones because I saw mentioned on several sites that these would be a good dupe for the Too Faced ones.
Hi Jenny!
I hope to, but I literally JUST got these so it’s going to take me some time before I am ready to post anything. So sorry! 🙁
Those shades look great on you! I am waiting to see your review/swatches of Peony. I can’t wear OCC Lip Tar because they are too drying. I’m hoping these will work better for me.
I hope these are nicer to your lips, Allison! As far as I know, they don’t have the peppermint, which seems to be one part of Lip Tars that can be drying for some.
Wow, so pretty! Might have to try them!
Let us know if you check ’em out, Shana!
Wow, I really love these! Violet is gorgeous.
It is!
Melted Violet looks so fun for summer!
These shades just scream summer to me!
I have Melted Ruby and love it! I was a bit bummed about the applicator (wouldn’t be able to keep it looking clean), but it actually helped my application to be more precise.
It works for application, but I don’t love it either. I don’t know… those types of applicators gross me out, though I’m sure they’re not much more sanitary than any standard gloss/liquid lipstick (unless you’re using it with a lip brush).
I’m really surprised by how nice these are! Something about the packaging just looked gimmicky to me and I just assumed they would underperform. I think I am going to have to grab a couple now!
I can see what you mean, Katie!
Hi Christine! So happy you started to review these! I bought Melted Fuchsia and Melted Peony and so far have only worn the Fuchsia which i LOVE 🙂 I saw Sephora and another one that was similar that I was trying to get during the 15% off week – Melted Candy – but it was sold out and got an email stating they were no longer going to carry it 🙁 I almost got Violet…I think i might have to now after your review 🙂 can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Peony!
Hopefully they’ll bring it back!
They all look so pretty! I have samples of the coral and pink one.
Ooh, have you tried them yet?
Totally buying violet. My obsession with purple toned lipsticks is getting out of hand but it’s great!!!!
‘Tis the year for purple lipsticks!
Wow how stunning is melted ruby on you!
Aw, thanks, Judith!
Ruby is glorious!
I bet it would be gorgeous on you!
I hand tested all of these at Sephora, then wandered around for about an hour testing other liquid lipsticks. By the end I found that these has super lovely colors (my favs of any on my hand) but had feathered really badly (like had feathered into other swatches of things). I grabbed a tissue and they came off in one swipe which surprised me since I thought they were supposed to be a stain. The feel of them was super soft and I might still try one and see if it feathers less on my lips, but at the cost ($25 here in Canada) I am just not sure.
Definitely no feathering on me, but they will transfer/wasn’t like a stain (more like liquid lipstick).
I love these 3! They’re so gorgeous 🙂 Melted Fuchsia is just so amazing.
You look great in ’em, Phyrra!
OMG! Gotta get Violet! These are perfect for summer! Great for my pool or beach bag!
Ooh, nice idea to stash it in your bag!
I’m happy you like this formula! I’m thinking of getting Fuchsia and adding Peony to it to make it more wearable for me.
These will definitely mix well!
LOVE. I haven’t seen a color like melted violet ever! It looks exactly like your photo – almost neon. I mix it with Armageddon by kat von d and it’s SO pretty!! I need to stock up on it just in case they take it off the market. BEAUTIFUL!
Also, I don’t comment a lot but I love your site and am here every day checking out your reviews and questions. Just adore the site! Thank you1
Thank you so much, Jenna!! xoxo
Will you be reviewing the La Girl Glazed Lip Paint? I’ve heard that it’s supposed to be similar to these.
Hi Kel!
I can’t make any promises, though of course I hope to since I did buy them, but it will take me some time to work through them! From what I’ve seen thus far, I don’t think they’re dupes (it’s like comparing lipstick to gloss), but we’ll see!
Christine, I used one of the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints today and accidentally squeezed out WAY too much product onto my lips. It just takes a little bit of pressure to squeeze, so I am warning you in advance so you don’t make the same mistake I did. I also recommend using a lip brush instead of applying the tube of product directly to the lips.
Thanks for the heads up!
I just saw that NYX is going to release some new matte lipstick in some crazy colors. Hope you review them (your site is, BY FAR, the best reviews/swatches website there is)
Thank you, Mel!
Yesss! I just bought the Melted Violet last week and loveeee it. I haven’t worn it out yet, but it’s a must have for spring. It’s so gorgeous on!
I hope you’ve had a chance to wear it, JJ! You gotta make time for it 😉
Just tested these at Sephora!!! Love them!!! May buy three of the shades on my next out of control haul.
Which shades are on your wish list, Lizzi?
Totally awesome and great pigmentation!!! They look wonderful on you…I must acquire these!…lol
Thank you, Acquie!
Holy Fuchsia! I think I need this 🙂 I might have missed it in your review…did these have a scent or taste?
No noticeable scent to me!
Melted fuchsia looks a lot like ud anarchy right? Loving the violet shade!
Definitely similar! Anarchy is not quite as blue-based.
SO EXPENSIVE!!! Can’t wait to see the second part though…
A little goes a long way, at least!
I ordered the violet one already and I can’t wait to get it. It’s my first purple/violet lip color!
Can’t wait to see you rock it, Christine!
These look amazing!
They are!
drooooool these are so beautiful!!! thanks for the great review!
No prob, Justine!
These looks like the best ever liquid lipsticks formula. not so drying and flaky.. so less on maintenance and yet so intense!!
Added to my wishlist! 🙂
I hope you check ’em out, Poo!
I am so sold on the formula! At first, I thought it was somewhat gimmicky and I wasn’t convinced! Thanks for the review Christine 🙂
My pleasure, Stephanie!
Those look amazing!!
Glad ya like ’em, Malia!
I thought these might be a bit too creamy for me, but knowing that they’ll stain totally changed my mind! I’m all for long wear lippies!
There’s some transfer, but they don’t move around too much – more like a satin lipstick than a thicker, liquid lipstick!
Ruby is so intense, it almost burns the eyes a bit! As does Violet, in its own way. Unsurprisingly, I absolutely love them for precisely that reason 😀 I don’t think a white-based purple will wear easily on my complexion, but IT’S A PURPLE LIPSTICK.
SO I MUST HAVE IT.
…somehow 😛
PURPLE! you need all the purples.
Love them all. I might have to buy all three. I love bright lips. I’m glad they got such good grades from you.
Hope you love ’em, Helene!
Yowza these are bright! Melted Violet looks SO similar to CoverGirl’s Divine (just the shade – not the texture etc). I find I buy bright colours but barely wear them:( They look pretty on you though:)
Good to know that it is similar to Divine!
Dang, buddy! These are gorgeous!!
Agreed!
I’m always so glad when u review/ swatch things I love whether I have them or not. Sephora has some new matte but luminous lip creams that I hope u get a hold of too. Let me say the neon pink (Elektra pink luster) is BY FAR THE BRIGHTEST PINK LIPPIE (besides those glow in black light lippies) I ever seen…it made nylon lip tar look pale when I got home and compared them. I thought the melted fuchsia was bright until got this.
I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled for it!
My goodness these are so beautiful!! The formula sounds great as well. I don’t know why I haven’t picked these up yet!
You gotta try it, Fancie!
A vision of stunning colors! I do believe they remind me of OCC’s Lip Tars, and I’d not be surprised to find them dupable within the OCC range, whether some needed mixed together or otherwise not. You truly wear them all nicely, Christine. xo
Thanks so much, Lotus!
You’re so welcome, Christine! Thank your genes! 😀
I picked up Melted Ruby today. I wish these were a bit less intense…right now, I’m just trying to figure out how to apply it so I get an even stain but a fairly light one. I do wish this came in a more “berry/Plumful” sort of shade but I am loving how long-lasting this lip colour is.
My best rec would be to use a tiny amount of something balm-like and a lip brush!
I had been eyeing these babies since they came out finally I decided to get them. They were sold out at my ULTA and Sephora so I had to order online. I got the Coral and violet. I’m excited happy belated birthday present to me :).
Happy birthday, Katherine!
I like these, but not for the price. I have Melted Fuchsia and wanted the Melted Violet and Ruby, but I’m not loving them like I was when I first tried it in the store. They do “dry down” and turn matte-ish. More matte than satin I’d say… but not a full on matte. I road tested it on my birthday, and to me, it felt dry on my lips (not like most “long wear” lipsticks that totally dry down, but, it just wasn’t as comfortable to wear as I wanted). I also found I was having to reapply it often. Like once an hour. It does leave a stain, but I wouldn’t call it long wearing at all. It is such a bold look that I felt like every time I looked in the mirror I needed a touch up. Granted, there was lots of food and beverages that day… Maybe if I went for 8 hours without eating, drinking or talking it might stay on better.
The colors are amazing… I’ll give them that. But after shelling out 21 bucks for one, and giving it a good honest road test, I won’t be buying any more. I think my OCC Lip Tars are similar (I purchased empty lip gloss tubes from diycosmetics.com and transferred them from their original packaging, which I hated, to the tubes with wands… it is like I have a whole new product that is better than the Melted Lipsticks… with more color choices). I also feel the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer is very similar, but with more toned down colors. I think I actually like the RImmel Lacquers better, especially for the $5 price.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a good product, but not the Holy Grail everyone is proclaiming it to be.
Sorry to hear that they didn’t turn out as nice as you wanted them to, Paula! For some, it might be their holy grail, but for others, it might not be – such is the nature of makeup! Just for me personally, I didn’t have any issue with needing to reapply – they last through eating and drinking and talking. I can’t go 8 hours without putting a color through all of those things, LOL! But if I had to reapply every hour, that would suck, so I’m sorry you had to deal with that! Thankfully, you’ve found a few alternatives that you like more 🙂 Thanks for sharing your experience!
Not everything works for everyone!! Like I said, they are nice… I really like the applicator, but I do feel like for such bold opaque color the applicator should be more precise…It’s like I like them, but don’t love them. I went into the store wanting to hate them, and proclaim them just a fad (haha) but really liked how they swatched…. I might end up getting the coral one, because I don’t have a color that is even close to that color, and would be beautiful for summer. I guess that’s the bottom line… I have similar colors in most of the Melted shades, and I don’t like these enough to pay 21 bucks for something I have a semi-dupe of. (13-15 bucks maybe, but not 21).
I’ve just stumbled on your website, and I do really enjoy it! Keep up the great work!
I totally hear ya! 😉 The shades are, in general, more dupable, so they can easily be had in other formulas (or you may already have them). Only one or two shades are more unique, IMO!
Thanks so much! xoxo
I really love it!
Yay!
hi, christine!
i decided to order melted fuchsia and melted coral after reading your reviews (and because of the “temptalia recomends” tag).
well, they arrived today and i’m wearing melted fuchsia and loving it! it does last through eating and drinking, although you have to reapply it after brushing your teeth.
this was certainly a happy purchase.
thanks a lot! love your blog!
Woohoo!!! I’m so glad you’re loving it, Julie 🙂
