Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a new (and permanent) formula that’s supposed to have “intensely saturated lip color with a precise tip applicator.” Too Faced says it has “the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick.” The consistency is light-medium–not too thick but not runny or watery–and is squeezed out of the tube through a flocked, angled applicator. All of the shades below were richly pigmented, and it seemed like a little went a long way, so don’t squeeze too much at once. The application of the colors was smooth, and each shade delivered even, opaque color that didn’t settle into lip lines or feather/bleed outside of the natural lip line. They wore for hours and hours (actual wear time noted below), and they were neither drying nor hydrating over time. The finish is a satin, which turns to a matte after three to four hours of wear, but they never fully set, so these aren’t transfer-proof. Here are the first three that I tested, with the next set to come soon–stay tuned!

Too Faced Melted Violet Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “violet orchid.” It’s a medium, magenta purple with a satin finish. The color coverage was totally opaque, and it applied evenly. It lasted for six and a half hours and left behind a stain. MAC RiRi Boy (LE, $16.00) is more muted, more matte. MAC Seductive Intent (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Up the Amp (P, $16.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Too Faced Melted Fuchsia Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “hot pink.” It’s a blindingly bright fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It had full color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly without feathering outside the natural lip line. It lasted for eight hours and a stain lingered for hours after. Ardency Inn Twist (P, $25.00) is slightly more muted. Maybelline Hot Plum (P, $7.49) is darker. MAC Rare Exotic (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Pink Pigeon (LE, $16.00) is less blue-based, more muted. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pretty Boy (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Too Faced Melted Ruby Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “blood red.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark cherry red with cool, pinky undertones and a satin finish. This shade was slightly glossier than the other two, but it still had the same rich, intense pigmentation. The consistency was a little thinner, so I felt like it wasn’t quite as easy to apply as the other two. It wore well for eight hours and again, a stain lingered for a few hours after. Chanel La Precieuse (317) (LE, $34.00) is more matte. MAC Glam (DC, $16.00) is a touch lighter. NARS Luxembourg (P, $25.00) is more matte. Maybelline Very Cherry (P, $7.49) is darker. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Dior Marilyn (LE, $36.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #43 (P, $19.00) is not quite as blue-based. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I almost got one of these recently then thought I should wait for your review! Might go back and get one, though I’m not sure if I could pull any of these off.

please do a review on melted peony and melted coral, those are the two colors i was considering to buy because the others were to bright and too much for me, it was too non wearable and i look horrible in hot pinks/reds/purples. people say that orange looks good on my skin tone (im a really pale asian) and i would like to know if creme cup by mac or nude creme by milani is a dupe to melted peony.

PIGGYCHAI Avatar

Who likes playing blind mice because that’s the state I’m in right now: blinded by the neon colours and Christine’s flashing smile.

I really want Melted Ruby; it seems like I can pare it down to be a less intense stain for a newbie like me (and 0.5% because I’m a sucker for exotic product names; damn you the power of branding and markerting!!!)

Mariella Avatar

Christine, can these be applied more lightly with good results. I just don’t like my lips entering a room 30 seconds before the rest of me and these seem so intense and bright but I might love them if they can be applied more lightly but still last and be fairly even.

yvette Avatar

these look great… just wondering, in your opinion… how similar Melted Violet is to OCC’s Rollergirl? from your pictures, MV looks more vibrant and i just wanted to know if it’s pointless to have both. many thanks!

Seana Avatar

It appears that L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints might be dupes for these Too Faced products, although I only own the L.A. Girl ones so I can’t say for sure. The best thing is that they are only $4 each! Luckily, I got them all before they went “out of stock” on their website. I still want to try the Too Faced ones, though, because you can never have too many lip products! 🙂

I have Melted Ruby and love it! I was a bit bummed about the applicator (wouldn’t be able to keep it looking clean), but it actually helped my application to be more precise.

Christine Avatar

It works for application, but I don’t love it either. I don’t know… those types of applicators gross me out, though I’m sure they’re not much more sanitary than any standard gloss/liquid lipstick (unless you’re using it with a lip brush).

Katie Avatar

I’m really surprised by how nice these are! Something about the packaging just looked gimmicky to me and I just assumed they would underperform. I think I am going to have to grab a couple now!

Tricia Avatar

Hi Christine! So happy you started to review these! I bought Melted Fuchsia and Melted Peony and so far have only worn the Fuchsia which i LOVE 🙂 I saw Sephora and another one that was similar that I was trying to get during the 15% off week – Melted Candy – but it was sold out and got an email stating they were no longer going to carry it 🙁 I almost got Violet…I think i might have to now after your review 🙂 can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Peony!

Brittany Avatar

I hand tested all of these at Sephora, then wandered around for about an hour testing other liquid lipsticks. By the end I found that these has super lovely colors (my favs of any on my hand) but had feathered really badly (like had feathered into other swatches of things). I grabbed a tissue and they came off in one swipe which surprised me since I thought they were supposed to be a stain. The feel of them was super soft and I might still try one and see if it feathers less on my lips, but at the cost ($25 here in Canada) I am just not sure.

Jenna Avatar

LOVE. I haven’t seen a color like melted violet ever! It looks exactly like your photo – almost neon. I mix it with Armageddon by kat von d and it’s SO pretty!! I need to stock up on it just in case they take it off the market. BEAUTIFUL!

Also, I don’t comment a lot but I love your site and am here every day checking out your reviews and questions. Just adore the site! Thank you1

Christine Avatar

Hi Kel!

I can’t make any promises, though of course I hope to since I did buy them, but it will take me some time to work through them! From what I’ve seen thus far, I don’t think they’re dupes (it’s like comparing lipstick to gloss), but we’ll see!

Seana Avatar

Christine, I used one of the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints today and accidentally squeezed out WAY too much product onto my lips. It just takes a little bit of pressure to squeeze, so I am warning you in advance so you don’t make the same mistake I did. I also recommend using a lip brush instead of applying the tube of product directly to the lips.

Mel Avatar

I just saw that NYX is going to release some new matte lipstick in some crazy colors. Hope you review them (your site is, BY FAR, the best reviews/swatches website there is)

JJ Avatar

Yesss! I just bought the Melted Violet last week and loveeee it. I haven’t worn it out yet, but it’s a must have for spring. It’s so gorgeous on!

Sae Avatar

I thought these might be a bit too creamy for me, but knowing that they’ll stain totally changed my mind! I’m all for long wear lippies!

Rachael Avatar

I’m always so glad when u review/ swatch things I love whether I have them or not. Sephora has some new matte but luminous lip creams that I hope u get a hold of too. Let me say the neon pink (Elektra pink luster) is BY FAR THE BRIGHTEST PINK LIPPIE (besides those glow in black light lippies) I ever seen…it made nylon lip tar look pale when I got home and compared them. I thought the melted fuchsia was bright until got this.

Mariella Avatar

I picked up Melted Ruby today. I wish these were a bit less intense…right now, I’m just trying to figure out how to apply it so I get an even stain but a fairly light one. I do wish this came in a more “berry/Plumful” sort of shade but I am loving how long-lasting this lip colour is.

Katherine Avatar

I had been eyeing these babies since they came out finally I decided to get them. They were sold out at my ULTA and Sephora so I had to order online. I got the Coral and violet. I’m excited happy belated birthday present to me :).

Paula Avatar

I like these, but not for the price. I have Melted Fuchsia and wanted the Melted Violet and Ruby, but I’m not loving them like I was when I first tried it in the store. They do “dry down” and turn matte-ish. More matte than satin I’d say… but not a full on matte. I road tested it on my birthday, and to me, it felt dry on my lips (not like most “long wear” lipsticks that totally dry down, but, it just wasn’t as comfortable to wear as I wanted). I also found I was having to reapply it often. Like once an hour. It does leave a stain, but I wouldn’t call it long wearing at all. It is such a bold look that I felt like every time I looked in the mirror I needed a touch up. Granted, there was lots of food and beverages that day… Maybe if I went for 8 hours without eating, drinking or talking it might stay on better.

The colors are amazing… I’ll give them that. But after shelling out 21 bucks for one, and giving it a good honest road test, I won’t be buying any more. I think my OCC Lip Tars are similar (I purchased empty lip gloss tubes from diycosmetics.com and transferred them from their original packaging, which I hated, to the tubes with wands… it is like I have a whole new product that is better than the Melted Lipsticks… with more color choices). I also feel the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer is very similar, but with more toned down colors. I think I actually like the RImmel Lacquers better, especially for the $5 price.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a good product, but not the Holy Grail everyone is proclaiming it to be.

Christine Avatar

Sorry to hear that they didn’t turn out as nice as you wanted them to, Paula! For some, it might be their holy grail, but for others, it might not be – such is the nature of makeup! Just for me personally, I didn’t have any issue with needing to reapply – they last through eating and drinking and talking. I can’t go 8 hours without putting a color through all of those things, LOL! But if I had to reapply every hour, that would suck, so I’m sorry you had to deal with that! Thankfully, you’ve found a few alternatives that you like more 🙂 Thanks for sharing your experience!

Paula Avatar

Not everything works for everyone!! Like I said, they are nice… I really like the applicator, but I do feel like for such bold opaque color the applicator should be more precise…It’s like I like them, but don’t love them. I went into the store wanting to hate them, and proclaim them just a fad (haha) but really liked how they swatched…. I might end up getting the coral one, because I don’t have a color that is even close to that color, and would be beautiful for summer. I guess that’s the bottom line… I have similar colors in most of the Melted shades, and I don’t like these enough to pay 21 bucks for something I have a semi-dupe of. (13-15 bucks maybe, but not 21).

I’ve just stumbled on your website, and I do really enjoy it! Keep up the great work!

hi, christine!
i decided to order melted fuchsia and melted coral after reading your reviews (and because of the “temptalia recomends” tag).
well, they arrived today and i’m wearing melted fuchsia and loving it! it does last through eating and drinking, although you have to reapply it after brushing your teeth.
this was certainly a happy purchase.
thanks a lot! love your blog!
