MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils
MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils

MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is the newest limited edition lip formula to release from MAC. I’m working through testing wear of the twelve shades (yep, twelve!), and I’ll be posting them as I finish wearing them, so hopefully, I’ll have reviews of a few shades for you soon. They’re available online now, but they’ll be at counters and stores on April 3rd. For now, enjoy these super quick swatches–I’ll have more photos, lip swatches, dupes, etc. with the full reviews. I would greatly appreciate you holding any questions until I’ve had a chance to test and post the review 🙂 Thank you!

MAC’s running out of ideas for color names, aren’t they? Awfully boring ones recently. Still, this is a good array of colors and I’m really looking forward to seeing how they apply on lips!

Carrie Avatar

I was hoping these would be more pigmented, or at least more evenly pigmented. I think I’ll stick with Clinque’s Chubby Stick Intense – I just wish they had more shades.

The swatches are not inspiring me very much, but it’s just not the type of lip product I am heavily attracted to. I bought a number of sheerer lip products last spring/summer and they do not get high rotation in my stash.. I also have so many lip products on order right now between your latest must have Guerlain, Dior, Bite, and Shiseido reviews on more pigmented products that I am not feeling these.

As always, the lip swatches will be the true test. But for now, I’m eyeing patentpink, sultana and teen dream. Hopefully, that won’t change. But if it does, I won’t be too unhappy, it means more money for the playland collection!!

I must admit, for something named ‘patent polish’ I was expecting a bit more opacity and a *lot* more shine.

These will be somewhere in the $50-60 range *each* here, if the mineralize lipstick prices are anything to go by, and honestly, MAC, I can get a perfectly nice Clinique Chubby Stick for $40, if I want a ‘high end’ fat pencil lipstick.

Having said that, Kittenish looks like a lovely MLBB, everyday shade, and Teen Dream looks like a fun orange! Thanks for the swatch peek, Christine!

Spontaneous, Sultana and Pleasant look lovely to me! I love the sturdiness and convenience of a big lip pencil, so I’ll probably indulge! 😉

So happy that i just didn’t purchase these….They are basically glorified lipgloss with not that much color payoff especially for us deeper/darker tone women…and then they have the nerve to be $20…MAC really got some nerve!!!

Shana Avatar

I was sort of excited about them, but they don’t look very pigmented at all. If I’m paying over $8 for a lipstick it better be amazing coverage! Teen Dream looks like it could be nice though, I love oranges and corals.

Veronica Avatar

Patent Pink looks pretty, though I’m not blown away. Innocent could be really interesting if it has decent longevity and isn’t tacky. I’d love to have a clear gloss coat without having to worry about lugging around a separate application to avoid contamination.

Kiko Avatar

I actually have Patent Pink. I ordered it the day it came out and they were offering free next day shipping. That color is AWESOME! If I would’ve seen these swatches first, I would not have thought about purchasing them. I’m going to order Fearless and also another Patent Pink since it’s LE.
Can’t wait to read your review regardless.

Hey Christine , its not related to post …. but I have a request .

can u pls post ‘five ways ‘ with
top 5 or 10 eyeliner I cant live without …
just in time for sephora sale …. would be helpful for us

Sorry for being demanding dear

I like the looks of Fearless, Go for Girlie, and Hopelessly Devoted….. however at that price and the fact that they are more balm ‘like” and not extremely pigmented. I might… MIGHT. buy one? Unless the wearing factor is thru the roof amazing… maybe one.

Lulle Avatar

Meh. They’re really NOTHING like the beautiful promo pic with ombre lips… There are many options nowadays for lip crayons and these don’t look any better than some the drugstore versions which cost less than half the price (Covergirl and Jordana are my favorites). Even the original Clinique Chubby Stick is cheaper, with nicer looking dark shades (and more pigmented if you go with the Intense).

I was looking forward to these but they’re definitely much more sheer than I thought they were going to be. A little disappointed but I’ll wait to see how they look worn. 🙂

Zainab Avatar

I loved the promo image, but obviously they didn’t use the actual product on the model (or it was photoshopped a lot). Sultana is intriguing, and I like the packaging, but overall these look like a pretty safe pass at MAC pricing.

Rachel Avatar

hmm…unless these are absolutely /amazing/ i think i’ll stick with getting my sheerer glossy lip products at the drugstore. for some reason i can’t justify spending as much money as i would on a lipstick for a product that isn’t heavily pigmented or long lasting. i feel like i’m not getting my moneys worth or something.
