In Punk Couture, there are four shades of MAC Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) that will be available. The collection released to most online retailers over the past two days and all but Studded Kiss appear to be sold out, but we’re all still waiting with baited breath (that includes me, as I was only able to snag Studded Kiss!) for maccosmetics.com to launch it–everything says “coming soon” and I saw it pop up that way a couple of hours ago. The collection will be available in-stores tomorrow, the 26th. One shade, Hautecore was released on Black Friday, so I’ve already reviewed that previously.

Unfortunately, since I wasn’t able to purchase the other two shades, and while I’m certainly hoping to snag them when they launch on MAC’s site, I don’t remain hopeful that stock will last for long (especially since the shades have sold out elsewhere). I would recommend buying them if and when you see them available, particularly if you have good luck with MAC’s matte or retro matte finishes. It’s a fairly consistent formula–long-wearing, somewhat creamy to slightly dry, and mostly opaque.

Studded Kiss is described as a “dark oxblood red [with a Retro Matte finish].” It’s a warm-toned, medium-dark red with burgundy and brown tones and a matte finish–to be clear, the bottom of the tube says “Matte” and not “Retro Matte.” The texture was lightly creamy–just enough that it didn’t drag or tug at the lips and applied evenly overall. It lasted for six hours on me and left a soft stain behind. I did have some very slight feathering (and I rarely have feathering) after five hours of wear. MAC Fixed on Drama (LE, $16.00) is less warm-toned. NARS 413 BLKR (LE, $26.00) is slightly darker. MAC Extended Play (P, $18.00) is a touch browner. MAC Deeply Adored (LE, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What a dramatic red! It’s interesting that they call this ‘matte’ though – because it certainly seems to have a definite sheen.. I guess it’s all relative at the end of the day, but this is why we’re all glad we have you, Christine, to reveal these mysteries for us! 🙂

My focus was on the Nudes, but I swatched, succumbed, and bought Studded Kiss and Punk Couture. I need another red lipstick like I need a hole in my head, but Studded Kiss is beautiful. I bought Punk Couture too. It is a super grape purple.

Christine, this color is identical to Mac Diva. identical. I’m about nw40-43 skintone with fairly neutral lips and Studded Kiss and Diva swatched side by side looked like twins. I couldn’t tell the difference between the two at all. I also swatched them on my hand with the same results. Did Mac forget about Diva or did they pull another fast one? :-\
