Sneak Peek: MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection — Pigments & Reflects Glitters
The talented photographer Marilyn Minter was inspired by MAC’s glitters and pigments. From her portion of the Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection comes two Reflects Glitters (Copper and Rust), two Glitters (Gold and Fuchsia), four pigments (Cocomotion, Brash & Bold, Heritage Rouge, and Push the Edge), as well as Gloss Texture in Clear.
Pigment ($19.50)
- Heritage Rouge is a dark, cranberry-burgundy frost. It’s incredibly pigmented and goes on smooth. It’s one of the best pigment textures to date. This was a previously released shade, so be sure to check your stash to make sure you don’t already have one.
- Push the Edge is a deep blue-based violet purple with soft shimmer/sheen. It reminded me a lot of Entremauve pigment but bluer, not quite as plum. The textures are even similar, as this one is a bit chalky (though not terribly so).
- Cocomotion is a rich shade of antique gold with a bit more brightness than your typical antique gold. It’s one of my favorite shades of pigments (again, check your stash before buying), because it’s extremely smooth, rich in pigmentation, and is a dream to work with.
- Product: 9/10
- Value: 9/10
- Ease of Use: 8/10
- Packaging: 8/10
Reflects Glitter ($19.50)
- Reflects Copper is a shimmery, glittering confection of orange copper. It is not eye-safe, so while it’s gorgeous to look at, I know there’s not much for me to do with it. Some things you can do with glitter that’s not eye-safe: mix with nail polish, mix with body lotion, mix with hair spray, and mix with lipgloss.
- Reflects Rust is a rusty shade of orange-red. It’s just as glimmering as Reflects Copper, and the glitter is incredibly fine, but again, not eye-safe, which is just a bummer.
- Product: 9/10
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 6/10
- Packaging: 8/10
- Overall: 8/10
Recommendation: I adore both Heritage Rouge and Cocomotion pigments. Push the Edge is nice, but not amazing like the other two. It is a rich shade of violet, so it may be worth some of the work to make it really pop in a look nonetheless. As much as I adore the way Reflects glitters look and feel, I find myself rarely using them. Both are beautiful shades, though they are also both permanent at PRO stores, so you don’t have to hurry if you’re on a budget.

Push the Edge is really really pretty. 🙂
Push The Edge = mine.
Push the Edge is definitely bought once it’s available! 🙂
if these are not eye safe……what are they used for?
I’m wondering the same actually :/
If someone could tell us how they use those ones. I really like them but if I don’t know how to use them, it would be a waste of money for me to buy them :/
I use the for my eyes. I make sure to use the sticky base though, so the glitters don’t fall out.
are just these two shades of ‘reflects glitter’ not suitible for the eyes?
I have some others: reflects antique gold and reflects teal.
Christine, perhaps you can explain this to us better
🙂
As far as I know, none of the glitters by MAC are eye safe. When you purchased the glitters, there should have been a paper insert that listed safety restrictions.
Hi Kiran!
I think I mentioned it in my review, but you can use them anywhere else — mixed with hairspray, nail polish, gloss, or moisturizer.
push the edge is like a pigment form of UD’s Frigid (or am I thinking of Fetish?).
Either way very pretty and would be the one I would buy if I was thinking about it….
I was thinking the same thing…not sure which shade, but it looks like the pigment form for ONE of those UD purples.
Push the Edge and Cocomotion very pretty
I agree. They are both gorgeous.
I’m beginning to change my mind about this collection… Although the shadows seem very boring and naff, these pigments and the lip products are lovely. 🙂
Can’t wait to pick up Push the Edge!
Glad I didn’t buy any of the reflects since they aren’t eye safe.
I picked push the edge and cocomotion. Brash and bold was pretty too but a bit too bright for me.
I actually attended the MAC event in GA and bought “push the edge” and it is GEORGOUS! All the pigment and glitters are pretty but push the edge has real star power!
Push the edge and Heritage are gorgeous! Cocomotion is plain. I have reflects Purple on my eye and never had a problem. I didn’t use a lot, as well as my eyes/skin aren’t sensitive. Oops
Heritage Rouge, Push the Edge, Cocomotion pigments are all nice but i think heritage rouge stands out! Push the edge reminds me of the new urban decays deluxe e/shadow called Frigid: deep purple w/blue sheen

I am definitely getting Heritage Rouge, and maybe Push the Edge 🙂 Thanks, as always, for the swatches!
I only have a couple of pigments so far, but I now really want Push the Edge, and maybe Heritage Rouge too!!
Cocomotion looks very brown in the jar, but it’s beautiful on the skin
you can add the reflects to shine serum for your hair. i have brown hair, and the reflects antique gold make my hair absolutely shine.. i get soo many compliments!
I don’t know why that I didn’t get Heritage Rouge from Overrich last year. I want it now since it looks gorgeous! I also want Push the Edge, Reflects Copper and Reflect Rust. Even though I can use the reflects with nail polish and that would look pretty! I have stopped using the reflects glitters on my eyes since I’m afraid that the fall out will be in my eyes and cause irritation. That is why that the reflects are not made for the eye area.
Depending on the glitter used, too, it can actually scratch and damage your eyes 🙁
would you say heritage rouge pigment is similar to cranberry e/s? if not are there any other eyeshadows that look like it?
Hi, I almost bought Heritage Rouge (HR) from the previous launch but i realised its pretty identical (on my NC43 tone) to a Clarins eyeshadow (those mono colours) in Perfect Plum. of course, HR has the intensity of inherent to the nature of pigments (espy when foiled) but the colour is pretty much the same. Hope this helps
Yes, similar for sure!
Push the Edge is so beautiful!!
So glad to see Cocomotion. I need to pick it up! I only had a small sample last time.
does it look like Amber lights?
Amber lights is a bit more orange than Cocomotion. Cocomotion is browner and has some glitter in it.
Hi, i have both (well, Amberlights has since finished) – Amberlights is rather coppery golden orange whilst Cocomotion is more antique golden brown; think of lippie shades like frenzy and coconutty. Its very very flattering and looks like you can pair practically any shade with it! (i’n NC 43 for ref) =)
Nope!
Im wondering if Heritage Rouge pigment is similar to the barry m pigment in Scarlet(dd7) or winter berry(dd88)??
Haven’t tried those, sorry!
push the edge pigment looks similar to barry m dazzel dust in Blue Violet (dd21)and cocomotion looks like barry m dazzel dust in Antique Gold(dd17)

as for the glitter the only glitter dust i can see is Crimson/Pink

I’m dying for this collection. Can’t wait till Thursday, got my wallet ready and leaving work early.
A lot of people use MAC glitter on their eyes anyway, including me. You just need to make sure it sticks on and there isn’t fall-out. I usually use MAC gloss or eyelash glue to make glitter stay on.
I want heritage rouge! It’s gorgeous!
Does anyone own Gold Mode pigment from MAC & know if Cocomotion is a good dupe for it? Or able to compare the differences between the two?
On the MAC site it looks pale compared to Christine’s vivid stunning picture <3, so I’m wondering if anybody owns/has used/swatched both?
Thank you!! 😀
Gold Mode is similar, but Cocomotion is browner/darker.
Do you have a dupe for the reflects copper?
