Kat Von D 10th Anniversary 16-Pan Eyeshadow PaletteKat Von D 10th Anniversary 16-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($52.00 for 0.96 oz.) contains 16 eyeshadows across mattes and shimmers, neutrals and pops of color. Working through possible color combinations didn’t feel like a hardship, so I’d consider the palette more versatile. Some of the color schemes I was seeing in the palette were the type that might seem jarring at first glance but can be quite interesting and unusual in practice.
About This Series
Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.
You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!

Thanks for doing this! I have this palette, but oddly found myself overwhelmed by trying to come up with combinations that would work well together that weren’t boring. Haha.
Agreed! Christine, I know you’re a busy girl with lots of products to review, but this is super helpful for those of us that just don’t have that creative streak or an eye for this stuff like you do! If this could be a series for palettes like this I’m totally on board with that idea!

OMG, thanks so much for doing this! I have this kit, and you just gave me some great ideas for color combos
Even though I don’t own this particular palette, these combinations are helpful for all the dupes I own.
(I just really wish I could just buy the shade Lala by itself.)

Ditto. The dupes I have are darker. I’d get this in a nano. But, predict there will be a CP dupe within a year…possibly in the fall.

Although I’m not planning on buying this palette your examples give me sooo much to work with, with my many dupes. Love your eye look above.

Thanks for these looks Christine! I was completely pumped when I got email notification today and saw that this was one of the posts!!! I was literally dancing around with excitement. Whoohoo!! I am really liking this palette. Mostly have been sticking with the yellows and oranges but am excited to try these out?
I used to make a dupes for palettes list. Think that will be on again. To start with, pull out all the Z’d dupes for the kvd, and put them in the ofra standing/easel style Z and work on some of these combos. Then backtrack for other palettes liked, but forewent. I really like that ofra magnetic; too bad it has disappeared from Ulta. It really can help with the overwhelming factor. Pick a combo and have the combo isolated from all the rest of the distraction, when I’m feeling perceptually challenged.
Sorry, that palette is no longer available and too far in the past – the priority is on new palettes since I can’t even keep up with these types of posts with what’s coming out!

No worries, I figured that this would be the case. Thank you for replying so readily!
It’s not necessarily the way you chose your colors, Christine, but palettes like this are well-designed to suggest combinations by the layout — e.g. any four colors in a straight line, any four colors in a group of two on the top row with the two underneath on the bottom row, etc. There are at least 17 4-color combinations to try before having to worry about picking 4 random ones and wondering if they’ll work. A couple of the 4-color combos suggested by this palette would be pretty challenging, but you’d definitely learn something in trying!
Concur, as somehow when I looked at this palette, which is why I would like to buy it, the combos jumped out at me since they appear in quads next to each other vertically or horizontally in quads or triads (at least to me). I’m likely going to purchase it later in the month as I received my Sephora (FR) birthday gift, a generous 30€ as a Gold member, my first! I was so surprised!
As it was this or Too Faced’s Life’s a Festival palette, which is on sale. But since it rated less and doesn’t have enough mattes, I figured this was a much better selection.

This is a neat series! Very helpful when considering a palette.

I really like 1, 3, 9, 12, 15, 17, 18, and 19.
I know this is asking a lot, but would it be possible to do this series for the Saint and Sinner Palette as well?
