2017 Readers' Choice Awards: Vote For Your Favorites Now!
It’s that time of the year again! All of the nominations were compiled and the top 10-15 (depending on how many ties there were) made it to the voting ballot. Voting is now open, and you can vote for as many (or as few) categories as you’d like. As always, there is also “other” as a choice. Thank you for taking the time to nominate and to cast your vote this year!
- Voting: January 6th, 2017 through January 12th, 2017 10AM PST.
- Results: January 17th, 2017
Voting is closed.
It was really hard to choose a winner in several of these categories.
Yeah, especially the powder eyeshadow and palette categories. It was tough to choose between Modern Renaissance and Metal Matte, but I ended up going with Metal Matte because of the wider range of shades. I wish I could vote for both.
Agreed
Christine, when I selected “other” within a category, I was unable to write in the specific brand/product. Was that supposed to happen?
Hi Toni,
Correct – we aren’t taking write-ins as that was only during nominations, we just give you the option to select Other.
Ohhhh ok… I missed that step. No worries!
Hi Christine, I felt like I gave a whole lot of “other” answers. I use a lot of By Terry products…primer, foundation, mascara.., Chantecaille camouflage concealer and lip products, and Tom Ford Lip glosses and lipsticks…eye shadows…I felt like those lines were barely mentioned. Neither was Chanel. How were the choices determined?
Readers submitted nominations, and the top 10-15 (depending on ties) nominees make it onto the voting ballot.
Like last year I wish I had submitted my nominations. I started them but didn’t finish,my bad .But I like most of the voters choices.
Yup all of this! The lack of By Terry, Surratt and Chanel made this tough for me.
Same with brands largely available in Europe, like Bourjois, Catrice, etc. It’s fair that the options will be the ones with more nominations but I had to choose a lot of “Others”.
For the blush category I was like where is my BY TERRY at? And then I remembered that I was too lazy to nominate my favourite.
I think I nominated a few Clarins products (or tried to and got a bit messed up with the process of trying to nominate products that weren’t already listed) and I think even a few of the things I did nominate didn’t appear. I guess that’s the reason – not enough others nominated them as well.
Man, the lipstick category killed me. Colourpop, Anastasia and Kat V D all have superb lipstick formulas right now I think.
That was hard. I wish there was a comment box to fill in if you selected ‘other’!
So we tally write-ins during the nomination process because write-ins can and have made it to the nominee list, but for the voting ballot, I give an other choice for those who want to vote on all but don’t feel confident about voting for any of the nominees.
I had a hard time choosing and can’t even recall whether I voted for the products I nominated. It was doubly hard because several of my choices didn’t show (Clarins concealer, Guerlain LdeP foundation, all the Lise Watier products I think I selected) but choosing “other” seemed a bit of a let-down so I tended to vote for my favourites among the branded products listed.
A few others:
Best high end brand: Charlotte Tilbury
Most underrated brand: Inglot
Best pen eyeliner: Estee Lauder Little black liner
Best powder eyeshadow: Inglot
Best concealer: Estee Lauder Double Wear
🙂
Inglot is definitely underrated recently !
Voted ! Done and dusted… It was too hard…
It feels like my favorite, Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Pencil, doesn’t get a lot of love online. I have very hooded eyes, so I don’t have a lot of room to work with. I used the hourglass version when they first came out, and that transferred and smuggled on me. The maybelline one doesn’t budge. I can wear eyeliner for the 1st time in my life. I’d love if you could do a review Christina
I agree with Maybelline Master Precise Skinny! I tried it at random, desperate to find something to work on waterlines and not transfer to contacts. I am thrilled that I found it and wont use anything else, especially on upper waterline. When I bought mine, they had only black and brown.. now i think they also have grey (?)
It was interesting to see what brands were on the best list. I’m glad I can comment because, I didnt see a foundation brand on the list, most likely because, most women aren’t even considering it. I voted, “other” and its my favorite, I happen to receive as a sample in my Birchbox last Fall. 2016. Its SooperGoop CC Cream foundation. It leaves my face dewy and feels so nice upon application with a beauty blender. I use the Medium/light for my medium/light olive complextion. I swear by this brand and will never stop using it. 32.00 for 1.6 fl. oz. Used with Ja e Iredale primer. The Bomb!
I think we did a great job with nominations ( breaks arm patting self on back ) lol this year. Some of my nominees made it and some didn’t but for those that didn’t I understand why. For instance my favorite mascara (k aucoin volume) never makes it to voting but I guess it must be a true hg because I’m still championing it, and while I have more lipstick than I care to count, nominating AND voting for my nars audacious was instant. I guess that’s the true test of a hg. I must be still searching in the other categories because those were hard! Still, I love doing these every year. It has to be a tremendous amount of work for you Christine! It’s pretty cool you do this for us, I think of all the hours, eyestrain and brain power this must take and it really is clearly a labor of love. I thank you and I know everyone else does too! Did I tell you both Suri and Alexa have learned to say temptalia ? lol I’m raising my voice activated devices correctly
Agreed! This awards series — and the year end wrap ups,, editor’s choice series, holiday reviews — are great fun and definitive resources.
Nail polish was hard to decide. I really like Illamasqua, but I’ve only got about five, so I had to vote for Zoya again because I like it just as well but have so many more shades of it that I’m reasonably certain that they’re consistent.
SO happy to see that Maybelline’s Lash Sensational made the list this year! That mascara is LYFE.
I know, right? It’s by far my favorite drugstore mascara!
this made me realize i haven’t tried as much as I thought haha. Also, I suggest for future votes, maybe make liquid lipstick and lipstick separate categories. that would be interesting. Also if you put matte primer and other primers in a separate category i think that would be better. because then oily people looking for a matte primer specifically can find the best one, and others can find one for them too. Also, I could be wrong but I didn’t notice a brow category but I might’ve missed it since I don’t use brow products at all.
We have reduced categories over the year as it is difficult to get enough nominations in when you make a survey too long (people get tired of filling it out!), so it’s more for a fun, year-end something to do – but we regularly ask questions like “What’s the best _______?” throughout the year 🙂
