2017 Readers' Choice Awards: Nominate Your Favorites Now!

It’s that time of the year again! It’s time to nominate your favorite products and brands from 2016 as well as your all-time favorite formulas. We have tried to make it easier for readers as well as on our end when it comes to compiling nominees. You can start typing your favorite brand or product, and it will suggest what you’re looking for using our product database, but as always, you can write-in your favorites as well. All of the nominations will be compiled and the top 10-15 (depending on how many ties there are) will make the voting ballot. You do not have to nominate for every category; fill in as many categories as you wish to participate in.

  • Nominations: December 20th, 2016 through January 3rd, 2017 10AM PST.
  • Voting: January 6th, 2017 through January 12th, 2017 10AM PST.
  • Results: January 17th, 2017

Nominations are now closed.

Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Haha! I have 3 cats Nancy, I have to lock them out of my room when it’s makeup time! Otherwise they’d knock all my stuff everywhere too. (Btw OCC loose colour concentrates are amazing and have sifters on them as well!)

Thanks for letting me know about the ones by OCC having a sifter, Bonnie! As for locking them out, Scunci will put his paw under the door and will shake it til it opens or I get so aggravated that I give up and let him in. I love him dearly, but he is a character! And very big, too, at around 25 lbs. ( I think he might have lost a little weight, but that may just be wishful thinking on my part).

OMG same here!!! I had to back to my sephora purchases list (and that’s only showing me the most recent from like this week. THAT’s how much I bought this year!!).

Out of curiosity, what do we do if there’s a product not listed?

Like, for liquid eyeliner, I’d love to nominate the Clinique Pretty Easy Liquid Eyeliner, but it isn’t available as an option.

Hi Ashlee,

We accept write-ins – I believe it says so right in the post as well as in the instructions 🙂

“You can start typing your favorite brand or product, and it will suggest what you’re looking for using our product database, but as always, you can write-in your favorites as well. ”

And then in the instructions for the categories: “If you don’t see your favorite auto-suggested, just write it in, and we’ll manually include it in the nominations!”

Hi Anna,

We can’t change a category in the middle of nominations (would be unfair), and we have had this category awhile 🙂 I’m happy to clarify, though! Niche brands tend to be smaller, often specialized brands (say a brand like Bite Beauty, which is only available through one retailer, has primarily made lip products or a more “indie” brand like Fyrinnae), and are often more independent (e.g. not part of a larger conglomerate but not always). The goal of the category is to acknowledge smaller, up-and-coming, and independent brands.

Hope that helps!

I had to do a write in for Elizabeth Mott’s Thank Me Later Eyeshadow Primer. It’s completely cruelty free and such an awesome product. I can’t wait to see the winners!

Mine way goofed. The site skipped to clarification for two entries, long before I was done. After you clarified, you had to click submit, and, whoops, you’re done. Suppose it doesn’t really matter. I can still think about it.

My favorite lip products this year were Maybelline’s Lip Studio Color Blur Pencils and Maybelline’s Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints, but neither of those product lines are listed on this site. Maybelline really changed things up this year when it comes to their lip products. People stop me all the time to ask what I’m wearing and are ~shocked~ when I tell them that it’s a cheap, drugstore Maybelline product. Sorry, not sorry! Their lip game was strong this year.

Honestly Maybelline has been staying strong lately.. I have been using their Primer/Loose Powder stuff since I saw it in stores and I’ve had people be like “Oh that’s just cheap” Ummm sorry my 12 dollar powder isn’t on par with your laura mercier, which made my brushes smell like vomit. It does what I need it to do, and I really like its performance – and smell. These are also people who have never seen my archive of makeup so cheap is just a dumb thing to say.

I always love seeing how many of my choices make the list. I think it would be fun to include some “worst product” categories because that kind of honest feedback can be very useful. Thanks for all your hard work!

We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
