Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

It was fun to vote for all the products that I think are great. Some were tough decisions. I do wish Dose of Colors was an option for best lip product. Their matte liquid lipstick is my favorite lip product ever.

Lily Avatar

I miss seeing some products on this list:

1. Shiseido Perfect Rouge – Probably the best formula on the market
2. Dior Rouge – Another great formula
3. Guerlain Parure Gold (new formula) – Amazing foundation
4. Lancome Hypnose Volume-a-porter – Great addition
5. Clinique Quickliner – Probably the best on the market… Creamy, great color etc…

The best lipstick question was HARD. I was torn between bite, colourpop ultra matte, kat von d, and nars audacious. It’s like picking a favorite child

Christine Avatar

Thanks, V! I’ll have to look into why we have the same product twice in the database (there are like, 10 versions of mascaras out there, so it didn’t occur to me it was the same one – thought it was a new version). We’ll make sure to combine votes at the end for anything already cast.

Huma Avatar

That was a lot of fun Christine. Some of the categories were much more harder than others. Thanks so much for giving us an opportunity to vote for our favorite products. I cannot begin to tell you how awesome i think your blog is. Please keep up the amazing work!!! You’re the best!!!

Deb Avatar

It obviously didn’t make the top 15, but A England is the best nail polish I’ve ever tried. Awesome, deep rich colour and coverage. One coat would often be enough; it’s only my imperfect application that makes two necessary. Love it!

Nicole Avatar

Yay! I like this because it helps open my world to some things I may not know about. I really don’t care if my favorites don’t make the list because generally my faves are your faves already because I pretty much but based on your reviews. I’ve never tried some things like dose of colors or Fryanne. It’s really great to see what everybody else is loving! Thanks for all your hard work Christine!

I think this is my first comment in my 5 years of reading this blog =)
I have this Tarina Tarantino (I believe this is the name) eyeliner that I bought 2 of before they stopped carrying the line last year at Sephora and love it. I think this, and MUFE make the longest lasting tight-line eyeliner. For ‘non-tightlingin’ my personal favourite is the Armani one. Very easy to work with and smudge out and has great staying power.

Deborah Avatar

I agree with some of the others, that was fun! I didn’t vote in a few of the categories (like cream blushes) since I don’t wear those and didn’t want to skew the results. Thanks Christine!

Vee Avatar

There’s an error in the ‘Best Pencil Liner’ category. “Sephora Collection Long-Lasting 12HR Wear Eye Liner” is a liquid liner. The correct name for their pencil liners is “Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear”.
The names are too similar so it’s easy to make a mistake. I only remember the name because it’s my fave product. 🙂
Love the Reader’s Choice Awards, btw. They’re so much fun!

I loved doing this voting. I loved makeup. I mean I still do, yet my fiance of 2 years committed suicide on June 28th this year so I haven’t felt pretty anymore because he always called me pretty. So its been hard. Also I’m not able to buy the products I love bc they are to expensive since now I’m on a tight budget. But I used to love going makeup shopping. I got only the best! I’ve watched countless YouTube videos so I knew how to apply everything. And now its like I’m no one bc I don’t even have energy or feel that its right to look pretty for other people. Idk. I’m sorry for my sad post. I just wanted to say I really enjoyed picking what I love! ?

Paz Avatar

That’s terrible, I’m so sorry. I don’t know if this is worth saying at all, but I only started liking makeup when I gave up on the idea that I *had* to look pretty. The way I see it now, makeup is mainly about the beautiful colors and finishes and having fun like a little girl again! lol Even if you don’t have a lot of energy, you can still enjoy makeup. Every day, I just like to sit in front of my stash and admire my palettes, swatch them on my arms and feel grateful for them. And you can start saving a tiny amount of money every week to buy something you really want in the future.
Things will probably never be the same, but you may find that you can see them in a different light, and they’re still worth it, there’s hope in them.

Ale Avatar

Even though you might feel lonely now you are not alone, there will always be someone who will belive in you even when you forgot how to.
You are beautifull and loved, never forget that.
Maybe it’s too soon and inapropriate for me to tell you this, since i don’t know you but you will love again.
Don’t wait for someone to call you pretty because you are extraordinary no matter what anyone else says.
You are GORGEOUS!

Cat Avatar

Melissa, I am deeply saddened by your loss. My husband has come close to death, due to illness, several times during our marriage and it has really taken a toll on me. I know that actually losing him would be devastating. He has called me beautiful every day for the past nineteen years — with or without makeup, with matted hair, and even when I was terribly ill with meningitis. It’s not the makeup that makes us pretty, it’s we who make the makeup pretty.

There are three things I hope you know. 1) You are not to blame for what happened in any way. 2) There is nothing you could have done to save him. 3) You are still the same person you were before June 28th — still lovable, still worthy of happiness, and still pretty.

Makeup is something I wear for myself, not for others. On days when I’ve been stressed out, or sad, or just tired of seeing my face in the mirror, I have often gotten my makeup out and applied it just for me — even when no one has been around to see it. I always feel a little better afterwards because I’ve given my mind a creative outlet to focus on for a little while. We all need a distraction we enjoy, especially when we’re going through a rough spot in life.

I wish you the very best in life. I wish peace for your soul, tranquility for your mind, and healing for your heart. Take care of your beautiful self. <3

Fran Avatar

Melissa, I hope that you get some healing soon. Cat, I think you wrote a beautiful reply and I wish you the best. I agree with you that makeup can be something that we do for ourselves, not just for others. I like having that opportunity to be a bit creative every morning, no matter what else is going on in my life.

Pami Avatar

Melissa, my heart goes out to you for your loss, and how much your life has changed. Some of the things you said sounds to me like you may be suffering from depression, and are making an attempt to reach out to connect with people and not feel so alone. It’s often hard to recognize it in yourself, and I hope you can get some help or have seen someone about it. Please don’t be offended, that is not my intention. We care!

Starfish628 Avatar

I look forward to this each year. It’s interesting to see what this group chooses since we are all well informed beauty lovers thanks to Christine.

Lilac Avatar

Hi,
just something I saw, there is “MAC Blush” and “MAC Powder Blush” in the same category (Powder Blushes), so I think this is basically listet twice; accidentally of course 🙂 Or does it refer to the beauty powders?

Rini Avatar

Tough Vote…..I wish you would review more of Chantecaille in 2016…Haven’t tried much from their line as they are super expensive…But love love looooooove their mascara….

Christine Avatar

Haven’t been particularly impressed with the few things I’ve tried / doesn’t get a lot of views on the blog, so I haven’t felt like it would be worth the money thus far! I don’t mind spending money to review things, but I try to review things from brands that are popular (e.g. Tom Ford) or may be less popular but have at least been high-performing in the past.

Quinctia Avatar

Oh yay, my favorite drugstore and higher end mascaras both made the ballot. Too bad Milani’s lipstick didn’t make it in, though…or the Rouge Automatique formula. Had to vote for Urban Decay’s regular line, there.

Ale Avatar

I just realised that Dior( my first brand love) is flatligning. Except for Dior Star (which i didn’t like btw ) it hasn’t released anything note worthy in the last 3 years or so. Really dissapointing. Their Dior Nude powder line is actually quite good.
That brand needs a TOTAL MAKEOVER ASAP!
And Marketing needs to be fired, all of them! Releasing one dissapointing LE Es quad after another and not promoting their older, really good products enough.
Not to mention discontinuing HG products like Amber Diamond

WHY DIOR, WHY?

Ale Avatar

well…about 10-12 years ago is when i got into makeup so that explains it.
I still have my first Dior es quint. it was a Really metalic one with golds and lavenders but so beautifull and such good formula. It is still good and i still use it. Never got a problem.
I never got the estetic of brands like benefit or the balm or even too faced. It just looks juvenile and too cutesy.
Give me Chanel any day.

MissJae1908 Avatar

I’m really surprised that the Lancome Teint Idole wasn’t on the list for Best Foundation. Any whoo…Colour Pop for the win!!!

Ginny Avatar

I found the blush categories to be hardest to choose. I’m pretty much in love with 95% of the blushes I own. Makes you realize how many great formulas are out there, and lots of them being relatively new releases (Clinique, MUG, UD, Colourpop)!

Arianne Avatar

The voting was so difficult but SO much fun! Thank you for all the time and effort you’ve put into this, as well as everything else you’ve put into the site. I only just found your website this past year, but it’s become a daily visit for me! 🙂

Shirley Avatar

I cant remember all of my Votes but I do remember selecting Kat Von D several times. Now if only her lipstick was as good as the rest of her products.

Fran Avatar

This was fun, as always, although sometimes hard to choose, especially if the product/company I nominated didn’t get enough nominations to make the list! I hate to just click ‘other’. There were several lip balms that I use regularly, each the best for a different purpose, so I chose the one I would pick if I could only have one. A lot of lipstick formulas that I love got nominated (Urban Decay Revolution, NARS Audacious, Too Faced La Creme), but Tom Ford Lips & Boys really has impressed me the most. Under ‘liquid eyeliner’, the ‘Artist Liner’ I have from MUFE is an automatic gel pencil, the liquid one I have from them (which I like), is called ‘Graphic Liner’.

MzVicky Avatar

I’m surprised my favorite Estee Lauder Color Envy Lipsticks were not nominated. Maybe it’s an age thing since I could be most people’s grandmother that visit this site.

Chelsea Avatar

There were a couple for which I selected other, and here were my choices for those categories:

Best lipstick: Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain
Best face powder: Bourjois Healthy Mix Powder
Best lip balm: Dr. Lipp’s Original Nipple Balm for Lips (I live in a cold, windy climate and this stuff is a lifesaver!)
