Make Up For Ever Artist Palettes - Repeats
One question I get asked when there’s a new Artist Palette is what the overlap is, which is definitely not something I can keep in my head any longer (too many releases!). I’ve created a spreadsheet that you can access below that shows the entire shade range along with palette releases to-date and what shades are where, along with how often certain shades have appeared. I have also included the year the palette was released. Â For your reference, I’ve also included all shades that have appeared three times or more (at the time of publishing this post):
- I544 Pink Granite x5
- ME230 Peacock Blue x5
- ME512 Golden Beige x5
- D236 Lagoon Blue x4
- D652 Celestial Earth x4
- ME930 Black Purple x4
- D826 Fig x3
- D926 Blueberry x3
- I524 Pinky Beige x3
- I528 Pearl x3
- I550 Olive Gray x3
- I662 Amber Brown x3
- M100 Black x3
- M536 Milk Tea x3
- ME108 Steel x3
- ME122 Snow x3
Thank you for this post, it’s is really helpful!
No problem, Marie-Estelle!
MUFE has a gazillion different shades, so why they continue to push the same shades out over and over again, never ceases to amaze and frustrate me! This is especially evident when looking at the spreadsheet you prepared meticulously for us. Thank you very much for doing this for all your readers!
Aside from a basic shade like matte black, a few shades were surprising as a five-time repeater!
It’s even more surprising that they offered them in both the Mini and Full size pans as well muiltiple times.
I excpct some over lap on the size of pan front but….Golden Beige is also like beating a dead horse. >_<
What I find interesting is that M536 Milk Tea has not shown up in any of the round mini pans…. We need a matte/Satin palette from MUFE. lol
Golden Beige is funny to me, because it seems like it is one of their go-to brow bone kind of shades, but I don’t think it is a great one? It’s a little bit too shimmery and yellow to be super versatile, I guess. I like the shade, and I can wear it, but it doesn’t seem like what they should be going to (based on what they do have).
Seems like they need a new artistic director to put these together from now on!
Thanks for doing this!! Very helpful! I haven’t bought any of the pre-made MUFE kits yet, but hoping to someday, as they are a great value
No problem, Katherine! 🙂 Thank you for the heads up on the mistakes on this post!
Thank you for doing this for us. It’s quite helpful.
Sure thing, Rachel! 🙂
Wow – that is some spreadsheet! There are lots of colours that have been used many times (Urban Decay does this too) to frustrate MUFE lovers. Thank you so much for doing this for your readers – a fantastic job.
My pleasure, Genevieve!
I have to think that this has to be a (albeit, pretty clever) marketing strategy–if people were able to get a bigger variety of shades at lower prices by getting different palettes, then there wouldn’t be any reason to shell out for the much pricier singles. Sigh :-/
That’s a good point and it’s probably the case! Long time MUFE fans will definitely end up just buying the singles they want that never get put out in palettes. I’m not there yet (the 15 pan artist was my first MUFE purchase) can I can definitely see doing that in the future. Already, I wanted the spring palette but am frustrated with the repeats just from the ONE I own now! 😉
Nice work! I pulled out the mufe palletes I had last week and realized that there would be a lot of overlap if I got the new palette,Vol 3. I would only be getting 3 new shades. But, 3 shades are around $40 and I really like the 3 shades. Plus, soon my daughter will be into makeup. So,extra makeup,if it doesn’t go bad, is not a bad thing for me right now. So, after 3 days of thinking, I had to get it!
I was surprised to see just how many repeats were in Vol. 3! I recognized a few but I’m surprised at 3 new!
Yep. Well, would have been 4 if had not owned the lilac shade individually. It is a lot of repeat considering how much they have to work with. But,oh well.
This is awesome!!! I love that there’s someone out there (aside from me, that is) who would take the time to make a spreadsheet like this for eyeshadows!! I made a spreadsheet for my job as a psychologist today and it just wasn’t as fun….:-P
Thank you, VeraLynn! 🙂
The spreadsheet is amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this 🙂
🙂 Thank you!
Wow. That was sooooo revealing! Thank you!
No problem, Lisa!
This is truly amazing and so helpful! Thanks Christine! Will you be updating this as new collections come out?
I will try, but if I forgot (I probably will), just remind me.
You amaze me! Your awesome for doing this. I can’t believe a company with such a large variety of colors just keeps repeating the same shades. I’ve never bought one of their palettes i prefer to make my own.
It is kind of funny that out of 210 shades that they’ve repeated some so many times already.
I don’t have any MUFE shadows. This palette has some pretty blue family colors. I’m trying not to buy this as I have so many other shadows, just not MUFE.
At least you don’t have to worry about repeats yet 😉
Oh how sweet of you to break it down for us like this, thanks!
Sure thing!
Thank you! This is very helpful! I love MUFE Artist Shadows, but I hate how many repeats they put in their palettes. I skipped the holiday palette for this reason even though it was an incredible deal.
It’s a bummer that they have so many!
This is so helpful, Christine — thank you! Whenever they come out with a new palette, I have to pull out my list of all the shades I own to see how many dupes there are. It looks like they repeat a lot of popular shades trying to attract new customers, maybe? Here’s hoping that, each season, they’ll start putting out one palette like that, and another one with shades they haven’t released in any of the palettes before (or not in any except the hugest, most expensive ones), for their loyal followers to try some new shades! I mean, it’s not like you can walk into the average Sephora and swatch all 200 shades, so you have to grit your teeth and order blind if you want to try many of them…
Bless you! I’ve been circling MUFE shadows for awhile, but I always have trouble trying to determine whether their pallettes are a better value to start my collection, based on the single shades I want. This is going to make my search so much easier!
Great job; painstaking work. I prob would be more excited, if I hadn’t already done it for the far fewer I have! But what a thing, going forward. Hope it prints well, so it can live in the bottom of the studio case. Yay discount on that one! Since this will likely be updated, make sure it’s on the Temptalia Google. Agree with all the other readers, who feel that there are too many repeats. Only with the help of your artist shadow swatches can we put together our trios, etc. Seriously, the Sephora online colors are pretty useless, and so many are online only. And I don’t get ultra excited by the displays, which seem to vary, store to store. So many close gradations make it look sort of like a paint chip display, and does not convey how totally excellent these are. And the online only ones are often the very most unique. I could not do MUFE without you. My wallet may be cursing, but I am thrilled by your tools to make the most informed makeup decisions.
Hi there,
This is amazing, thank you for taking the time out to create this. I just purchased my first MUFE pallette, the 2015 holiday edition so I don’t have to worry about repeats. But while doing my research, I found there were some repeats in the holiday edition from Vol 1, 2, and 3! I think I made a great decision.
Yay! 🙂 Glad you were able to get the right one!
You’re missing the Makeup Station from Holiday 2014. Which has several repeats including, you guessed it, Lagoon Blue!
Wow, you are truly an angel sent by the makeup gods :p
lol!
