If you know me, I’m not a big drugstore shopper when it comes to makeup. I just prefer the experience at the counter, and we all know MAC is a brand near and dear to my heart. So when you have enough makeup to paint ten faces, you just don’t feel as compelled to seek out alternatives at the drugstore, you know? That being said, I was 100% impressed by Sally Hansen’s Natural Beauty Color Comfort Lip Colors. These lipsticks felt ridiculously creamy, moisturizing, and they were rich and intense in pigmentation. At $9.99 a pop, it’s not exactly a bargain, but I imagine, like other drugstore brands, it will go on sale from time to time. Even at the full price, these lipsticks are amazing. I will definitely be keeping these within reach!
See lip swatches!
** Please note I do lip swatches by the truckload; so I often do 20-30 different swatches, which is why application isn’t always perfect, lips might be swollen, etc. Also, since I do them in bulk, I don’t take full-face photos as the makeup might not go with the lip color I want to swatch! I hope you understand :)

Yeah! I just tried out a couple of these SH lip products the other day and was really impressed, especially by the lip gloss: fruity, non sticky, nice applicator, and the pigmentation reminded me of MAC lipglass…I want more of them.

Thanks for the review on the lipsticks!! I own a few things from this line, an eyeshadow trio, the under eye concealer/neutralizer, and a foundation. I’m thoroughly, thoroughly impressed with this line, and I buy the products when they go on sale, which is usually buy one get one half off. Plus if you look around, there are usually $1 off coupons near the display or at the front of the store. It becomes a great deal.
I think I’m going to check out the Sangria color…looks gorgeous.

No problem! Sounds like they did a pretty good job with this line, since people are raving about all sorts of products from it.

Seashell Nude is AMAZING. Also SangrÃa, but that may just be because I have an unhealthy obsession with anything Spain-related and tend to buy any cosmetic with a vaguely Spanish name. But it IS a nice red. Sparkling Berry looks pretty good, too, as does Sweet Plum.

I will have to check this out for Seashell Nude alone :D
BTW, I highly recommend Burt’s Bees Carrot Nutritive Night Creme for abused-lips look prevention when on lipstick shopping spree! It’s very moisturizing (not the same with sitting-on-your-lips type of ‘moisturizing’) and healing — you don’t feel the need to reapply all the time after it fades. Cons: not good as under-lipstick balm and it has sweet taste (some peeps might not like it).

Thanks for the recommendation! :)
I use Kanebo’s Lip Treatment at night and it does the trick, though quite pricey, LOL.

These look amazing! I want to buy them all!!
But a question for you about lip color in general: No matter what brand or finish I wear, I always end up with peeling lips (I know, gross, sorry!). I always wear lipbalm/chapstick/etc. underneath l/s (and 24/7 really). When I top off l/s with l/g, after a while my lips peel as well, and I think the problem here is that they’re *too* moisturized (?). Exfoliation doesn’t change anything… All I know for sure is that my lips are always in very bad shape at the end of the day :(…. How can I fix that?
Christine
Saturday, September 20, 2008
I loveee the texture.
About the peeling… is it your LIPS or the lip color? When I wear red, I find it might peel a bit, but it’s mostly the color not my actual lips.
I usually don’t wear lip balm or chapstick under lipstick directly – I will put it on, but then “kiss” it off on the back of my hand before I apply lipstick.

I think my lips themselves peel off.. In fact I’m sure of so b/c then they feel really tender/soar like I’ve been biting on them all day or something, and then I can’t even reapply l/s.. it’s so annoying! :/
I think if I use less balm or do your technique my lips will dry out even faster… I wish the l/s would just stay fresh and then at the end of the day I can just wipe it off easily or whatever. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I thought it was only the deal with d/s products, but even when I use MAC I get the same response. Clinique is the only brand to which my lips seem to react well.
Christine
Saturday, September 20, 2008
You should look into seeing what distinguishes Clinique from others, maybe there’s an ingredient in there you just have to make sure you have in your lipstick!
I wish I could be more helpful!

caramel, maybe there’s a common lipstick ingredient that you’re allergic too. Christine started to get at this, but you should check ingredient labels and figure out what the potential culprit(s) may be.

Yes, I agree. I also asked on MUA yesterday and they advised me to “wean off” my lipbalm LOL. They also informed me that some balms/chapsticks contain ingredients that may actually dry out my lips, such as petrolatum and mineral oil. So I went out and bought a new all-natural lip balm that contains neither one, started to apply less frequently, and I’m looking at ingredients…. hopefully l/s won’t be a problem anymore! :)

Friday, September 26, 2008
Hello :) .. I decided to try the easiest suggestion first, which was just to switch out my lipbalm. HUGE difference! I bought a petrolatum and mineral oil free one (Burt’s Bees Pomegranate). My lips feel much better, and lipstick wear has definitely improved :)
I hope it’ll stay this way and that it isn’t just a temporary improvement.
