MAC Cham-Pale: Very Important Platinum Nail Lacquer

MAC Very Important Platinum Nail Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a a metallic pewter with silver micro-shimmer strewn it. It has a frost finish, and MAC officially describes it as a “dirty platinum.”  Like Soiree, I found the finish to be much more metallic than that of a typical frost, and it has the brush strokes to prove it!  Shown here with two coats, I found it impossible not to have far too many brush strokes messing up the overall look of the polish.  I was disappointed in the consistency, too, which was thick and gloppy.  The color is gorgeous (I love pewter anything!), but the formula itself is one of MAC’s worst in the past couple years–and I like MAC’s lacquers in general.

MAC Cham-Pale is a limited edition launch (official information and photos here) that is set to launch in-stores on December 26th in North American, January 2011 for international MAC locations. The approximate launch date for online is December 24th. It features color products as well as a few skincare items.

POST FAQ

Where can I purchase Very Important Platinum? How much is it?

MAC Cosmetics -- in-stores on December 26th, $13.

Is it limited edition?

Yes.

Any dupes?

This resembles Dior's Timeless Gold, though--not quite as gold and clearly the finishes are different--but a lot more than Soiree. Essie's Steeling the Scene looks like it might be a slightly light version, while China Glaze's Cords seems to be a little darker.

  1. Jennifer F says:

This is a lovely colour too. Shame about the streaks. I will probably buy it anyway and just try my best to apply it because I do really like the colour.

  2. Rebecca says:

Looks beautiful in the bottle, but with that finish it’s almost impossible to get a nice finish on the nails! I have a similar polish Avalanche by China Glaze (similar in texture, but a bluer color) and it’s the same difficulty!

  3. Bella says:

Streaky, but how I love that color! Essie’s version will have to do for me though.

  4. Arantzazu says:

It’s a pity it works so bad, ’cause the colour is fantastic…

  5. Grace says:

Once again really pretty color, it stinks that it is a pain to apply. I’ll check it out in-store!

  6. Tekoa says:

So sad! I was looking forward to this. But the brush strokes? Nope.

  7. Em says:

sgorgeous colour! pity about the brush strokes.

  8. Sass says:

Darn. If it didn’t look that bad I would have gotten it. You’re right about this one. Usually the polishes you give a C to I like, but this one is spot on. Thanks Christine!

  9. Mangoo says:

You may want to try thinner coats for a less-brushstroke-y look!! Works for me :)

  10. Vijaya says:

Is it crazy that I think the brush strokes look kind of… cool? If it weren’t for the metallic texture, I probably wouldn’t think so, but as it is, there’s something about it that I kind of like.

It’s the thick-and-goopiness that’ll probably make me skip.

  11. Marcela says:

    pretty color, terrible streaking.

  12. AnGeLwInGz says:

It reminds me a lil bit of Chanel Kaleidoscope, except a lot streakier :(

  13. Grace says:

You should try out Sephora by OPI Nail Color in Social Climber.

They don’t have it online, but if you go in stores they’re still bound to have it. I just bought it/applied it today, and noticed it looks very similar to this MAC one. Plus – it’s not hard to work with!

  14. Ashley says:

What a shame the color is nice.

  15. Miss Silver says:

    Streaksville~!!

  16. Annick Chantal L. H. says:

I don’t have any streaks. I have it and it’s one of my fave nail lacquers. And the consistancy is liquid not thick so it is very easy to apply on nails. 2-3 coats and you have a pretty “platinum” color which tends to be greenish gray on my nails. I am NC44-45 for reference. I remember the MUA of my favorite Mac shop (Paris, châtelet) said to me “oh it’s very liquid (oh mais il est très liquide)”. maybe some are not… I don’t know. Anyway it’s one of my favorite. voilààà.

I got it & it works perfect to me :) I love this bullet colour :)
