A MAC and Disney collaboration to celebrate the dark side in every one of us, in a glamorous sort of way. Who’s the fairest one of all? Four separate mini-collections, in haute animated couture. The incomparable Cruella De Vil and Snow White’s Evil Queen are dazzlingly devilish; Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and The Princess and the Frog’s DR. FACILIER, both up to no good on their own. I saw sneak peak pics of this collection and I gotta say, OMG crazy boring! I love the names of all the products but seriously they gotta do something better with the packaging. It almost makes me mad because its even worse than the Hello Kitty collection from last year… I wish they could’ve done something more interesting like how they worked with Liberty of London rather than just stuck the carton pics of the villains on their usual black packaging. Sigh.

I like them a lot! Maybe it’s because I’m young and I still watch some Disney movies but honestly who cares about packaging! It’s like the saying ” Don’t judge a book by it’s cover!” and that’s what your doing! I also think MAC are trying to do something simple because of the Rodarte issues.

Agreed. They’re tacky looking! I’ll still check them out though.
It’s apparently all about what Disney gives them, since they own any images of the characters, MAC can only use what Disney gives them to use. The companies MAC works with on a collection seem to have a lot of power over it. So it was probably Disney that chose Dr Facilier. No surprise there, since they have been pushing that movie like crazy. And it was Disney that gave the crappy images for the packaging.
BOO DISNEY!
Paul and Joe released a collection with Disney characters (Bambi, I believe, and more recently, Alice in Wonderland) and they managed to spice the packaging up with some additional stock images (lace, flowers, etc) and the end result was very pretty.
I think MAC took the easy way out on this, using only the Disney images on a black background and not adding any creative input of their own.
tl;dr- it’s not all Disney. MAC could’ve done something to make this packaging look less tacky.

I have to agree. The packaging really turns me off. Instead of looking fun, it looks childish, like “play” make up. Too bad MAC! It doesn’t appeal to me.
Well all i can say is at least they didnt put massive glitters in the black packaging this time, like they did with the hello kitty collection.
you have to admit, the green & blue mineral eye (she who dares) is pretty outstanding, and the nail polish, as well as the red cruella lipglass with fuschia pearlized pigments! and toxic tale (coral lip from the evil queen) is much like a hybrid of vegas volt and show orchid with the texture of an amplified. it’s worth seeing in person
I never get excited over collection information bc I can never fully visualise. The nail lacquers might be interesting. The packaging will play a major role in my may-or-may-not-splurge…
the packaging is black with images of the characters on it, just like they look in the movie, not the sketchy ones that were released promotionally.

Ok, I won’t lie. I get excited, especially when it’s (a) a fall release (all my fave stuff tends to come out in the fall) and (b) based on villains. HOWEVER, I’m going to go with the crowd and wait for pics before getting excited.
I’m obsessed with anything Disney and of course I love MAC, so I know I have to buy at least a few products from this collection! I’m planning on getting all of the lipsticks, beauty powders and the mirror.

I’ve seen a picture of the packaging and I quite like it, I don’t don’t think we’ve got the whole list yet, Since I think they may put out more than one lipgelee.
I love the fact we’ve got MES and regular eyeshadows, and Amplified creames are my favorite lipsticks!
Honestly, I can’t wait for these! I think more than anything, I’ll be snatching up the lipglasses, a couple of lipsticks, and maybe Bite of an Apple blush.
not impressed at all with the color selection… what’s up with the beauty powder and the blush?!? beauty powders and blushes are my fave thing from MAC and this kind of sucks.
The nail lacquers and eyeshadows sound best. I hope they have really cool themed packaging too!

Thank you for posting the list with prices. I hope these are actually what it costs I read on Specktra that they would be more but it wasn’t an official post or anything. I have to agree I saw the packaging and it is pretty anticlimactic after all the hype. Yay you screen printed the characters on each thing.. no special design, no artsy scribbles like the intro. It kind of looks cheap really. Oh well the colors sound amazing and I am so happy you posted this. Thank you!!
I know MAC does two price increases (they do some products in the first half of the year, others in the back half), but I have no idea. I just posted prices based on current/recent pricing.
Yep I figured that is what you did. I think the hike is coming in July. I guess we will have to wait and see. Thanks for going to all the trouble to price it, it makes things easy and keeps it in perspective for me.

From the description of colors of the Mineral Eyeshadow duos, they seem to be my kind of shades, pink/purple and dark blue/ green, but gotta see the photos and the real things first!
Sadly I’m not feeling the collection now. Maybe if anything I’d be interested in Briar Rose, but I guess we’ll wait to see the images.

I talked to someone about the liquid powders. Apparently they are a loose powder that, once put on the skin kind of melts and liquifies, then sets up like a powder again. It might be more of a “on bare skin” kind of thing – Like the cream bronzers that came out with “To The Beach.” Interesting anyway…
On a side note: None of the people I talked to who went to Update and saw this collection knew who the hell Dr. Facilier was. LOL! And everyone said the same thing over and over, “Where’s Ursula?!”
You would think that since Ursula was based on an eyeshadow-afficionado-drag-queen (Divine) she would have been a go-to character for makeup licensing.
I think disney just want to promote the movie “the princess and the frog”.
It’s the Prescriptives Magic Powder formula with a little more pigment.

I was so disappointed in the maleficent items, she’s my favorite villain.
Rekon they should have done some sort of metalic packaging liek they did with the Diana Ross collection waaayyy back. I’m so going to go work at MAC and work on better packaging. the people doing it at the moment need to be fired, they’re doing such a crap job. all they have to do it slap some Disney images on there regular black packaing, maybe chuck a gloss on it. soooo disappointed! they probably wont do this collection again and they wasted it, with boring, cheap looking packaging.
ok well that’s my rant, but seriously MAC get it together – this packaging is doing nothing for the name of your brand.

You’re right. Packaging plays a MAJOR role in how much I spend or DONT spend. I have every color, what would make me buy more stuff if the packaging. Stickers, meh…I would pass before I even see them. Like Dame Edna, I purchase ONE powder in spirit but could have spent waaay more.
I hope MACs marketing/design teams floats on these sites and if design is not already locked down, considers tweaking the design and doing something more fabulous. Yeah, names are great but w/o design no point.
I am excited for this collection however the packaging is just ok in my opinion. There is just something from the pictures that makes is look very cheap and child like. It looks like kiddie makeup. I would rather then do a different color container for some of these collections then the characters on them. I’m still excited about the collection though but since there is special packaging I guess its safe to assume there is no pro discount which will suck.

is anyone else surprised to see a disney villians collection without a single green eyeshadow? i was hoping for at least one fun lipstick (green or blue) but assumed that there would be a couple green eyeshadows…
i was honestly thinking eyeshadow trios (like with dame edna, etc.) would have been in this – fun compacts with groovy packaging. i’m sure the package designs will be special, i just expected to see more le style packaging (would have been even better to see new products)!
unrelated to the theme of this collection, i’m excited to see push the edge out again – i’m down to less than a teaspoon of it! lol! (i think the descriptions are mixed up for push the edge and brash and bold tho)

but you know what? i’m actually kind of irritated at this collection! with a collection based on disney villians, i shouldn’t be scanning the descriptions HUNTING for something that sounds interesting! i should be panicking and thinking, “how can i afford all this?!” pretty sad mac… pretty sad.
maybe i can just blame it on the LAME choice to use dr. facilier instead of a memorable villian (ursula would have been one of my top choices). whoever was in charge of that decision should be locked up in the disney vault.
I love Dr. Facilier but not using Ursula is pretty much the worst idea ever.
if i was going to pick a lesser-known villain i would have gone for ezma instead of dr. facilier (but i LOVE eartha kitt and she SO needs a mac collection – i don’t care if she isn’t around anymore!) hehe! but i agree! i hate that i actually know these things (or think this way) but ursula was putting ON makeup in the movie! (lo!) she should have been one of these villains!
just off the top of my head… a few of the things i would have liked to have seen:
1) a trio of eyeshadows for each character (in a le compact)
2) two lipsticks for each with some GOOD colors (a couple cool re-promotes like that blue from c-shock or “grid” or “blade” from WAY back when would even be cool!)
i honestly like the idea of keeping the collections similar for each character – with maybe ONE something special for each… like 2 new WILD eyelashes for cruella, some kind of awesome compact for the evil queen from snow white, a deep dark fragrance in a cool vial (like poison) for EZMA!!! lol! you get the idea.
with one shot and this and a really cool concept to work with, i would have gone WAY over the top (but that’s why i don’t work for mac… my ideas would never sell to a large group. lol!)
Dusty, Mac totally needs to hire you to help design their collections. You have awesome ideas. I would totally buy the collection you listed.
how can you not use ursula- this was a dumb decision. Can you imagine the colors that could have been used for ursula – that would have been hot
I completely agree about the Ursula thing, I would of thought she would of been one of the first villains they decided to use. I remember one of my favorite parts of The little mermaid was when ursula squishes that little animal thing and uses it as a lipstick. lol. I don’t know why I loved that part so much, but I did.

On the other hand, I kind of expected this, though. Most Disney villains share very similar color palettes, so I was wondering how they were going to make it interesting, and… well, it seems like they haven’t, LOL.
I agree about the green shadow, though! Black, purple, and green are the three basic villain colors, hahaha, how did they cut that one out?!

Anyway, back to MAC – - you are totally right! i need at least one thing from each character…plus more haha. but i’ll even buy something from this Dr. fellow who i’ve never heard of haha.

After seeing some photos: They could have done so much more with the packaging. A little disappointed.
Final verdict: Won’t be spending as much as I thought.
I’m sorry, but I absolutely hate the packaging! It looks cheap and tacky and highly unoriginal. I would’ve loved to see the sketched versions of the characters in black if they were going to stick with the black-colored packaging; this just looks like something I’d find in a kids’ makeup play set.
On that note, until I see the pictures, the only things that really catch my eye by description are the nail lacquers. I can’t wait to see those, actually!
Exactly! They needed to make it more adult instead it looks like a childrens playset complete with the plastc mirror and plastic lipstick. I will only be purchasing the nail lacquers and maybe a beauty powder.. That’s it!

Ugh. I too saw the pictures for this packaging. IT SUCKS. its tacky and boring. I was expecting something edgier like the teaser they had. cheap and tacky looking. YUCK
I basically just wrote the same thing! they should use the sketches from the teaser!

I think the packaging looks kinda cute, but kinda kid-like. The colors don’t sound very interesting other than the nail lacquers.

All in all it doesn’t sound that brilliant, but I am looking forward to see the packaging 
very few repromotes, a lot of new. fun packaging is great but the product is what sells me. Im very excited for a lot of it

I feel like the could have chosen better characters ! Who is DR. FACILIER ? I guessed cruella and the evil queen but was also expecting ugly step sisters, queen of hearts, captain hook and ursula ? still saving for it though !!! The polishes sound to die for!!
Dr. Facilier is the villain from Disney’s latest box office hit titled Princess and the Frog which featured a black girl as the main character. I am happy they included a newer villain to the other classics. Diversity from a makeup collection is always good!

The nail lacquers also sound really interesting, but I don’t do my fingernails at all..
The only part of this collection that makes me a bit excited is the ‘Heartless’ Lipstick, perhaps that’ll be a nice true red…
I have the hardest time finding a nice true red lipstick that lasts. I have blonde hair, light brown eyes and a yellowy tinge to my skin :/
It seems like most true reds are make for lighter people :/
dont know if someones pointed this out yet but push the edge, and brash and bold pigments are the wrong way round.

like they just took a picture of a villan and smacked it on the front of the case, imagine using it people would think its for kids! I mean ill still get some if the ltd edition colours/products are too my taste and some sound interesting
What a shame though this could have been so much more I wonder if these pics are right would MAC finalise packaging months before release?
I’m excited about this collection, but the packaging is very important to me. I’m going to start saving now, but I really hope MAC delivers with the packaging especially because it’s a Disney collection (it should be special). Can’t wait to see the pictures!
If this is bona fide, I’ll be dissapointed. The packaging looks cheap and tacky and many of the colours sound boring. I was expecting so much more.

Interesting collection. Only one Lipgelee?? I’m sure the packaging will be fantastic.
Oooh, I was interested in the concept but was sure all the shades would be too dark for me. I’m not a fan of purples and black shades in my makeup, so I’m glad there are some corals, pinks, and coppers in there.
So far all I want is the beauty powder and the mirror. Saw the packaging and wasn’t really impressed.
From the pictures from the site that someone posted are pretty cool. I know this isn’t the best of MAC but don’t MAC usually put up awesome packaging around February/March like HK, Heatherette, Liberty London.. So for a collection that’s around september, I would say it’s pretty good. I would buy it.
Maleficent’s mineralized eye shadows sound nice, and anything with the description “purple” is good :]
the only thing that sounds appealing to me is:

Boring or whatever I’m still buying a lot from this collection. The collection packaging alone is worth a lot in the Disney Collectors World. I collect Maleficent pins as well as Evil Queen pins so I’m going to be in MAC heaven when this collection comes out. I also go to Disney World every year and we’re going for Halloween 2010 and I’ll be sure to get pictures with all of my villains when I get there. I love the collection from what I see in the sneak preview pictures. Yeah!

I can pick out several items that I’m interested in! (especially that Cherry lipstick… I’m predicting the next Marine Life right there). But then again, I’m very new to makeup, so while the collection might not inspire long time collecting veterans, I see this as an opportunity to pick up some great basic colors with nifty packaging : )
I was disappointed that Mac chose not to use a more classic character like Ursula, whom I would have loved to see. I highly doubt these pictures are the final packaging. Although, packaging doesn’t influence whether I buy or not. Guess I have to start the saving from now!
I was upset that there was no Urula as well. She’s my fav villian!!!!!
Different packaging would be nice. Ursula would have been awesome.

I beg to differ about the packaging pics. I saw them and I kind of like them. The shiney black cases with the villian on the top. I actually was dying to buy a palette but they didn’t make any so, I’ll just wait til it comes out!
Finally, someone who actually likes the packaging like I do. I know they could have done better, but I still like it.

I’m guessing it’s either a silicone type liquid, that dries to a powdery finish. OR, it’s a powder that’s very very soft, with a cooling feeling, that feels like liquid on the skin.

This is not right …. I was really hoping to see some cool eye palettes. I am very disappointed with the packaging and am secretly hoping that these sneak pics are fake.

If this is a hit, I hope it inspires them to another Disney collection. I just feel like many great characters were left out. Personally I don’t think DR. Facilier should have been included, but I understand that Princess and the Frog is their latest movie and this is another way for them to promote it (I don’t think the sales for the movie were very good, I mean it still made plenty of money but I think they expected a larger profit)
The movie did very well- the merchandise did even better, with dolls selling out way in advance of the movie’s release. I think that Ursula would have been Perfect for this collection, but for what ever reason, they chose not to add her in. Dr. Facilier was a voodoo doctor fro the movie and A LOT of color was used for his character and things that involved he. He is the lastest vilian and it is smart to promote the latest to the collection.
I agree with you about Dr. Facilier, but I WISH they had added Ursula too. You even see her putting makeup on in the movie.
I have my eye on De-vil, Sweet Joy, Her Alter Image, Vainglorius, Vile Violet, Oh So Fair, Briar Rose, the mirror, and the nail lacquers!

How disappointing! I can’t believe there are no deep red lipsticks. And Dr. Facilier was not a memorable villain, I have no idea why he’s even included in this collection.

Ursula, however – the Disney villain seemingly most commonly clamored for, at least on the beauty blogs I frequent – is from “The Little Mermaid” which came out in 1989. I would imagine that she is often requested because MAC fans who are somewhere between their twenties and thirties, and perhaps even those in their forties, commonly associate Disney villainy with her, because she was one of the first one they saw, or at least one of the first female ones. (Consider that “Sleeping Beauty” was released in ’59, “101 Dalmatians” in ’61, and “Snow White” in ’37 – although they’re obviously classics and not at all foreign to anyone, they may not be as visceral and nostalgic an association as that of Ursula in “The Little Mermaid”. I don’t know; that’s just a guess.)
And, if you think about it, it seems probable that it is the early-twenties to mid-or-late thirties range that is the main demographic for MAC cosmetics, as that age range is both likely to have some disposable money, and may be likely to spend that money on make-up in bold colors. Judging from all the “But who is Dr. Facilier?” comments, it also seems that they may not watch the new Disney movies all that much, anymore. It would perhaps make more sense for MAC, from a business perspective, to focus their collection partially on a character that is certain to engender a certain sense of nostalgia in a large section of their main demographic.
But, at the same time, sure! If what they are doing is trying to draw in younger, or new, consumers, then certainly Dr. Facilier is a good enough choice. I suspect Disney itself has a large hand in it, too, trying to push their new franchise.
I know he’s new and being young myself, I still think he’s a bootleg Jafar. Mac apparently wanted to include a male villain but they should have chosen someone classic. His part of the collection is not impressive either, what with all the repromotes.

There are a few things soung great like the nail polish sounds awesome… but I think a good chunk of this stuff is attracting me because of the name, and if you read just the description i could probably do without… well let see when it comes out how it looks

Nothing really impresses me. I think I’m gonna save my money for this summers “dare to wear” there are so many lipglosses that I want from it

What is Magically Cool Liquid Powder?
Not sure yet, will have to wait for details.
I went to my MAC counter today and asked the lady and she said that it would be like a powder for a “dewy” face look, and that the powder feels like liquid.
i dont know if anyone knows about the prescriptives powder that when you brush it on it feels wet? it might be like that. its called the magic liquid powder. my friend has it, and it was mind blowing at first to brush it on and think ‘wait is the brush wet” lol
The Magically Cool Liquid Powder is a feather light silky powder. Its a water power hybrid and its moisturizing. 65% water. Its better used as a highlighter. If you have any other questions on collections you can visit my blog.
