MAC Reel Sexy Eyeshadow Duos Reviews, Photos, Swatches

There are four different MAC Eyeshadow Duos ($27.50 for 0.09 to 0.10 oz.), which includes: Dynamic Duo 1 (coral with yellow pearlized pigments/purple), Dynamic Duo 2 (violet duochrome with pearlized pigments/violet), Dynamic Duo 3 (mid-tone purple/teal blue), and Dynamic Duo 4 (mid-tone pink/blackened violet).

On the left side of Dynamic Duo 1, there is a peachy-orange with a golden peach shimmer-sheen. It has decent color payoff but it is on the sheerer side. Urban Decay X is similar but has a stronger sheen. MAC Melon is a bit more golden. MAC Expensive Pink is darker and pinker. On the right side, there is a dark purple berry with red undertones that has a matte finish. It has a dry texture, so it applies in patches and looks chalky on the skin–it does apply slightly better on the eye. NARS Caravaggio is less red. MAC Vintage Grape is purpler. MAC Plum Dressing is similar but shimmery.

On the left side of Dynamic Duo 2, there is a pale, icy lilac with a hint of white-gray in its base. It’s very iridescent and has decent color payoff. MAC Silverwear is less iridescent and less lilac. Tarina Tarantino Diamond Dusk is very similar but has more frost in its finish. Oh the right side, there is a blue violet–it looks blue, then it looks violet–but it has a matte finish and applies decently. It needs to be layered in order to be opaque; it was a little tough to blend out when I used it on the eye. MAC Royale is bluer. MAC Cobalt is a bit bluer and brighter but close. Inglot #388 is bluer.

On the left side of Dynamic Duo 3, there is a grayish-taupe with a hint of brown underneath. It has a softly frosted finish with good color payoff. Urban Decay Mushroom is browner. MAC Keep Your Cool is less frosted, less gray. Chanel Illusoire is similar but more metallic. On the right side, there is a blue-based teal with a matte finish. It has good pigmentation, and it actually applies easily and blends out nicely on the eye. Bare Escentuals Water is much bluer. I couldn’t think of anything that was that similar.

On the left side of Dynamic Duo 4, there is a light-medium pink with a satiny sheen and barely-there blue undertones. This had pretty mediocre color payoff–I had to layer four or five times to get it to even show up. MAC Miss Piggy was very similar in color and in quality. MAC Feather Pink is a bit darker and bluer. On the right side, there is a deep, dark purple with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It has decent to good color payoff, but it is a bit dry in texture. MAC Indigo Noir is bluer. Urban Decay Rockstar is a tough lighter, red-toned, and has a shimmery finish. MAC Indian Ink is very similar but darker.

The only duo that really had quality eyeshadows was Dynamic Duo 3--the others tended to have one decent to good shade, while its mate tended to be more finicky.  At least, the most unique shade (based on my inability to find dupes) was also Dynamic Duo 3!  I wish the duos were priced a bit better–they seem high for two eyeshadows.

Gorgeous eye look! I’m not interested in any of these. I have an irrational dislike towards the duos that MAC comes out with in collections. Even if I like the colors and the quality is there, I just can’t bring myself to buy. I’m weird, I know, lol.

Oh my goodness; the taupe in Dynamic Duo 3! *clutches heart*

At $27.50 each (and probably even more in Canada), I really wish MAC would release these as customizable duos, instead of pre-made ones. I feel like whenever they release duos, there are two or three shades that I LOVE – but they’re never together! >.<

I wish Mac would just stop with the duos already.. I agree with Miss J, Mac duos just doesn’t interest me at all for some reason.. If I’m going to buy a duo, I’ll go to Nars 🙂

Thank you so much for the review Christine! 🙂

That’s it, I need duo 3. I’m really digging that taupe (and I’m hoping I can finally find one that works), and I don’t own any teal yet (though I have NO idea how teal would look on me)! I LOVE what you did with duo 2 and 3, Christine!!!

Your last paragraph almost hit the nail on the head about what I think about the e/s duos. MAC duos are most often a miss for me because I either (1) Dont like one of the colors (2) one color is too sheer (3) one color is too chalky (4) I already have too similar a color. Obviously it is hard to please consumers in every way but being more consistent with qualty would make me more inclined to buy them.

What teal-ish eyeliner (or is that also #3 eyeshadow patted on top of another eyeliner) is that on your lower lid & waterline?

I wish the color pay off for the Dynamic Duo 2 was better because those are beautiful colors. Dynamic Duo 3 is gorgeous. The other 2 don’t make me want them so much, so no love lost there.

I feel like they ARE kind of overpriced. Aren’t pans like $11.50 and palettes $7? So feasibly for like $2.50 more you could just MAKE your own duo…. And considering that seriously ONLY the taupe color looks good, I think I’ll pass!

If the taupe (teal is pretty, but not something I wear) were with the dark purple in #4, I’d be into it, but as it stands, the taupe is pretty dupable, and I’ll just go to the PRO store and pick up Indian Ink and another couple of colors I’ve been wanting for a few $ more, and I only like light pinks with some shimmer.

Also, the color in #1 reminds me a bit of Motif.

if any of you live near a mac pro store check to see if the collections are out already, cuz it launched early on thursday march 29 at mac pro in orlando, fl

I don’t own any duo so far but I’m really liking the nº3..actually, when I first say them in the press release, this was the only one that caught my eye – love both colors!!Even though I was told not to wear any blues (blue-eye girl) I might just try this one.

ciao bella!! is the first color of the dynamic duo 3 a repromote of the eyeshadow hypnotizing? and is the dark purple of the duo dynamic 4 a repromote of the eyeshadow poison pen? sorry for my English, but I’m Italian:)

Went back and played with Dynamic Duo 1 today and I noticed the lighter shade is actually a duochrome of melony-gold and a berry purple shade which is very similar to the matte shadow it’s partnered with. It’s pretty unique! I can’t say I’ve ever seen a melon and berry duochrome before. I just didn’t notice it in summer daylight before, now it’s a different kind of lighting outside the color just became duochrome. So cool. 🙂
