Zoya Storm Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

A Galaxy of Color

Zoya Storm Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “full coverage, holiday black with a high concentration of micro-fine diamond holographic glitter.” It’s a rich, inky black cream with holographic sparkle. The shimmer and sparkle look multi-sized to me, and almost like flecks for some of the colors. While it seems similar to Illamasqua Creator, this shade doesn’t have any of the holographic shimmer, so it is just silver sparkle and shimmer–the effect is similar but if you really want the holographic aspect, you won’t find it there. The same is true with NARS Night Breed. Cult Nails I Got Distracted is closer, but it has large green-teal flecks as well.

This shade was fully opaque after two coats, and it applied beautifully!  The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so I didn’t experience any bubbling or pooling of the polish along the edges of my nails.  There’s plenty of shimmer, and it disperses and spreads evenly.  I typically get a week of wear with Zoya’s polish with no chipping and just minor tip wear.

ahh im in love with storm! ive been planning on getting it but i recently picked up the nails inc after party collection from sephora, and im wondering if disco lane is similar enough to storm that i dont need to have both. have you seen that one? if so, thoughts? thanks!

I have to decide if this is going to be too similar to China Glaze “Smoke and Ashes.”

I’m not saying they’re dupes (Smoke and Ashes is almost green) but they might fill the same niche in my collection.

Storm sure is pretty, though…

I’m glad I skipped on the mac glamourdaze nail lacquer in “everything that glitters” which looks similar to this. I will pick this one up instead!

my thought exactly! (although I never really planned on getting ETG, even though I liked the color. I love a lot of MAC products but the nail polishes will never be worth the price to me, the quality is just way too inconsistent)

I almost passed on Storm because of it’s similarity to Creator, but I’m glad I got it. I’m wearing Zoya’s Aurora from that same collection. Storm is up next.

It’s gorgeous!! But I’m already getting Illamasqua’s Creator today so I don’t think I need this. I’m so excited to finally try Illamasqua’s nail polish formula!

Zoya is carried inside Ulta, correct? I never know where to get Zoya in my area. We just got an Ulta, though, so I might have to go check it out. I’m loving this collection of polishes.

Sabriel Avatar

Yep, I can confirm that Ulta carries Zoya.

But I have to warn you: they are slow at putting out new releases, at least in Minnesota (where I live). They only just put out the fall collection! I don’t expect to see the winter collection until December maybe… they’re just really slow.

I say that, but I still love the store. They also have NYX. 🙂

Miss J Avatar

Thanks, Sabriel! I’m not too far off from Minnesota, so I’m sure ours will be slow to get new releases, too. Gotta love the Midwest! I definitely plan on making a trip soon to check out our selection.

Thanks again for the info! 🙂

The Maple Grove Ulta is better and has had it out for a while. But that literally seems to be the only one in all of MN that gets collections out in time.

Which is your fav, Kim? I am kind of loving all the shades; I’m tempted to just get the sampler, wrap it in Christmas paper, and say Merry Christmas to me! LOL.

Oh I need this color! I’ve been looking for a nail polish to match the color of my car (Black with multi color flecks) this is it! And I won’t use this at touch up paint lol

all the swatches I’ve seen of this lately have me drooling. a black glitter isn’t the most unique idea, but this is SO different from every thing else, its so hard to describe (only a real nailpolish’er would get it, right?)

I bought this after I’ve seen your swatches and for the first time in a long time I’ve been wearing a nail polish for more than a couple of days :). It’s stunning! Like wearing a galaxy on my nails. I don’t tend to have much luck with Zoya polishes (I seem to be in minority about it, but I never like the formula and it always seem to take forever to dry; I get smudges even a couple of hours after application, when I think I’m safe to start using my hands again), but this one is a winner for me. I already plan on getting at least one back-up because she’ll be a staple for me from now on :). I love it so much!
