Zoya Blu Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

Zoya Blu Nail Lacquer

A Blu for Spring

Zoya Blu Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “lucky hyacinth blue cream.” It’s a pale sky blue with a cream finish. There’s a real softness to the color, and there’s also an almost indigo-tint that makes it less overtly blue. NARS Kutki is bluer, slightly darker. Cult Nails Princess is much, much darker and has shimmer, but the tone of the blue is similar. Chanel Coco Blue is much darker. Chanel Riva is more aqua.

The consistency of Blu is incredible; for such a pale, pastel-colored polish, you’d normally get a streaky finish–at the very least, with the first coat.  Blu is beautiful even with the first coat, and it’s so, so pigmented.  It was very nearly opaque after one coat, but I found two to be perfect for fully opaque, smooth color.  The consistency wasn’t too thick or thin, though it’s slightly thicker than the average polish, which many Zoya creams are.  I didn’t experience bubbling or pooling of the polish along the edges of my nails, and this polish self-leveled nicely, too.  I typically find that Zoya’s polish wears for a week with minor tip wear but no chipping.

I love Zoya’s nail polishes. They just work the best for me–great formula, and the brush is just the right size for me to use. I’ve never had one I didn’t like!

Now I am REALLY glad that I did buy that. Gah. That’s almost white-out pale which would look horrendous on me.

That said, I am amazed at how well it applied, so kudos to Zoya for where it’s due.

Pastels don’t go that well with my skin tone but I keep buying it hoping lol. This is a lovely shade and will give it a try. Haven’t tried such a light pastel blue before so it should be interesting.

wow there’s a lot of white in this! i love it. i was worried from the press photos that it might be similar to zoya kristen, but i see now that it’s definitely not the case. i wonder how similar this is to deborah lippmann’s let’s hear it for the boy? would love to hear your thoughts – thanks! 🙂

I’m in love with this colour. This looks a lot like Jessica’s Barley Blueberry which I already own, so my wallet is spared.
Thanks for the review and swatches!
