Zoya Alma, Harper, Jesy Nail Lacquers Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Zoya Bubbly Nail Lacquers
Zoya Bubbly Nail Lacquers

Zoya’s summer collection, Bubbly, features six shades with holographic sparkle. I reviewed the first three shades here, and this post showcases the remaining three. I’m usually drawn to Zoya’s summer collection, because they have such a magical sparkle to them. This year was no exception in that regard, though opacity was lacking. Two shades were less pigmented than described, and they would need at least three coats or underwear to achieve full coverage. The formula was slightly thin but not watery or difficult to apply, and I had exceptionally good wear out of this finish from Zoya. (Keep in mind, however, that almost nothing chips on me.)

Zoya Alma Nail Lacquer ($9.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “warm golden peach metallic.” It’s a brightened, tangerine orange with gold shimmer and holographic sparkle. It was semi-opaque after two coats, though Zoya describes it as “fully opaque in 2 coats.” It applied evenly, but if you want full color coverage, I would recommend three coats. Zoya Beatrix (P, $9.00) is darker and has a different finish, but it was the closest I could think of. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Zoya Harper Nail Lacquer ($9.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “cotton candy pink with a spun gold shimmer.” It’s a light-medium cool-toned pink with warm, gold shimmer and holographic sparkle. It was mostly opaque after two coats, though there was some visible nail line at certain angles/lighting conditions. Zoya describes it as “fully opaque in 2 coats,” though. This shade wore well for ten days with minor tip wear but no chipping. Zoya Binx (P, $9.00) is darker. Formula X Astrolady (P, $12.50) is lighter, less holographic. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Zoya Jesy Nail Lacquer ($9.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “fiery coral orange metallic holo.” It’s a muted, medium orange-coral with warm undertones, gold shimmer, and holographic sparkle. It was semi-sheer with visible nail line, though Zoya describes these as “fully opaque in 2 coats.” Though it wasn’t as pigmented as anticipated, it didn’t streak when applied. Illamasqua Marquise (P, $17.00) is darker, more opaque, no holographic shimmer. Zoya Tanzy (P, $9.00) is darker, more opaque, no holographic shimmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I looked at the pictures before reading the review and almost asked you if you only used one coat of color for all the swatches. I have the same collection and two coats give me a more opaque finish. Maybe it’s because you’re using strong lights for photos?

Hi Ellie,

Opaque colors don’t suddenly turn sheer just because of lighting, you know? If it is totally opaque, no light is coming through. I had noticeable sheerness with these regardless of whether I was in my studio, bathroom, office, outdoors at a restaurant, or at the grocery store (Harper and Binx were the most pigmented). I don’t just take a photo and call it a day – I look at swatches and products in different lighting situations beyond that one moment where I take still photos, so that I make notes about what I notice/feel/see as a whole. You’ll see me mention when colors seem fairly opaque except at certain angles/lighting situations – that was not the case here for me.

I’m happy to hear yours were more opaque – I really wish mine were – because these had such pretty sparkle and Zoya’s summer collection is one that I personally look forward to each year so this was a huge disappointment for me! 🙁

I didn’t mean to offend you, or to imply that you don’t do your job carefully. Quite the opposite, I meant to say then I can see the sheerness too in your pictures, that’s why I almost asked you about the layers. Obviously because it’s your job and you used lights and everything, you see more in detail than me. I also never said they were completely opaque, I said in two coats I seem to get a more opaque finish than shown in the pictures.

Hi Ellie!

I didn’t take offense at all 🙂 I was just trying to clarify and further explain my process on how I review – that I don’t just consider what it looks like in a photo but in real life in different settings to ensure that the photo here represents a good view of the product (not what it looks like at night time or in a dimly lit bathroom, but at the same time, not overblown or exposed).

I never get pulled in by sheerer blues… I don’t know if it’s my perception that too my brands dilute it so they can say they “do blue” or just that I don’t like the way it looks sheered out. Peach or gold on the other hand I love sheer or opaque!
