YSL Rouge Volupte Lipsticks (Spring 2021) Swatches
There are eight new shades in the YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) range for spring! YSL recently had an irresistible sale on their lipsticks, so I also picked up seven permanent shades from the Rouge Volupte range (shades Rouge Ballet through Smoking Plum below) that I hadn’t swatched before–I know this is a popular formula!

Hmmm – I generally love YSL’s lipsticks, but these look a little sheer or even patchy. I do hope they are goodies though.
At first glance, I was excited, but the swatches and lip photos look mostly pinkish. I’m not seeing the richness I see in the bullets themselves. I know the formula is a sheerer one, but the sheerness in these is cancelling out any shade complexities. Just not for me..
These are def a yeah, no. Based on the bullet, you’d expect a good variety of shades. Not. The range is narrow and pinkish, as you noted. I could go for a sheer Gen-type color, but guess I’d better look in the fridge to see how LQ Saint Rust is holding up.
Check Sephora, Nordstrom, etc. There is a large selection of colors: nudes, corals, oranges, reds, roses. What Christine has shown us is just a handful of what’s available.
I’ve always loved the original Rouge Volupte and the Oil in Stick version (BTW, this is not a new formula). This particular shine/oil formula is meant to be sheer and conditioning. All the Oil in Stick shades can look quite deep or vibrant in the bullet, but when they are applied, they are more subtle. They can be built up, but they are very emollient and so too many passes can result in a gooey sensation. Bottom line: If something more opaque is your jam, these are not for you. Think of them as like a lipgloss in stick form. Personally, I’m not all about the pigment and so a formula that is translucent and nurturing is right up my alley. I have several colors Nd update when new shades come out. Any time my lips feel -Chex, quick swipe of one of these gives me instant comfort.
Please excuse typos: “. . . colors and update. . .” “Any time my lips feel chapped, a quick swipe. . .”
These look so balmy and comfy! I’ll be very interested in reading your thoughts on each shade as I’m not set on any single one in particular yet.
I love this formula, glad to see swatches!
