YSL Rouge Gouache (11) Glossy Stain Review, Photos, Swatches

YSL Rouge Gouache (11) Glossy Stain ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, vibrant orange-red with a glossy finish. OCC Meta is similar. OCC Jealous is slightly more orange. Urban Decay F-Bomb is darker, redder. See comparison swatches.

I might not have had good luck with Violet Edition earlier this week, but Rouge Gouache was fantastic! It had rich, juicy color with most opaque color coverage that applied evenly, smoothly, and looked all-around gorgeous for a full six hours. The glossiness wanes as I approached the fifth hour of wear, but it definitely hangs out and is noticeable much longer than the average gloss. The color itself persists and stains the lips, which is the color you see that continues for another three to four hours (fading evenly). YSL’s Glossy Stains have a sweet, fruity scent but no discernible taste. I wouldn’t describe it as hydrating, but it’s not drying over the six hours it wears for. The consistency starts out very water-like but then develops into a slightly tacky gel-like formula (about five to ten minutes).

I kind of think Rouge Gouache looks like UD’s F-Bomb and Punch Drunk had a child together. A beautiful child. 😀 I love orange-reds in this shade range. On my fair, cooler-toned features, these shades tend to pull very red and make a stunning contrast to my skin tone. I wear them when I want a serious WOW factor to my makeup. I’m not usually a fan of stains, but this might have to go on the wishlist!

this might be the best red I’ve seen on you so far. somehow it looks natural on you! it seems like a lot of these glossy stains are well worth the money.

Interesting, in swatches I’ve seen elsewhere this shade looks more like a berry red with pink tones in it. I’ve worn #9 and find that one to be closer to an orange-red though it is mostly a true red.

I’ve had my eye on this one for a while, although for some reason when I swatched it, it looked like a cooler red… I’ll have to make sure that I see it in good lighting against my skin. So far, the only one of these I’ve purchased was Violet Edition (which wasn’t so bad on me) and I definitely want to try more.

I’m loving these swatches and am very curious about the texture. I was hoping that the violet colour would have been a winner (still looking for a great berry/burgundy shade).
Btw, did you happen to use a stencil on your eyebrows? They seem to look a little stronger than in previous posts. Just curious.

Hi, has anybody tried number 16 Pourpre Preview? Is it too dark when applied? I’ve seen swatches online but I can’t be sure and I really want a nice purple-ish lip colour that isn’t too intense or dark. More light or medium would be fine.

Maybe something similar to MAC Bust Out. Would the Rebel Nudes Violine Out of Control be a better fit for what I should get? I’m ordering online because Sephora isn’t available in my country. None of this is. I’m confused between these two YSL colours and I want to buy the more wearable one. Oh, and I have light/medium skin.

I’ve owned Rouge Gouache for almost a year and have worn it numerous times, and it’s always seemed like a cool, pink-toned red, both in the bottle and on my lips. The first coat looks fuchsia and the second transforms it into a blue-red. And I’ve never seen it described as anything but a pinky red in online reviews, either! It does look slightly warmer on your warm-toned skin, but I wouldn’t call it an orange-red…?

It is so weird that how different it looks on NC 42 skin. I am actually wearing it right now and it is more like a berry color and not this red orange! You rock it 🙂
