YSL Pourpre Preview (16) Glossy Stain ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a vibrant, fuchsia-purple with a glossy, creamy finish. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is less glossy, lighter. Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $22.00) is more fuchsia. Urban Decay Crush (P, $19.00) is similar. Maybelline Brazen Berry (P, $7.49) MAC Zen Rose (LE, $17.00) is darker. MAC Up the Amp (P, $16.00) is more muted, purpler. MAC Style Packed (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Narcissus (LE, $20.00) is lighter. Buxom Swinger (P, $21.00) is less glossy, pinker. See comparison swatches.

It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the texture I’ve come to expect from YSL’s Glossy Stains: light-medium in thickness, gel-like, mostly non-sticky, and very glossy. This color wore virtually as long as I wanted to, but it wears well for six to eight hours and then loses its glossiness and doesn’t look as even as it did initially after that. I still had noticeable, decent color twelve hours later, and the best part was that my lips never felt dehydrated. It does stain over time, which helps improve the longevity. The only downside is that the color is less forgiving than other Glossy Stains for evenness, and there is a little settling into lip lines that you’ll see in the close-up lip swatch. Luckily, it’s hard to see from a normal viewing distance, and it did not worsen over time. Glossy Stains have a grape-like scent, which I don’t notice once the product “dries” down (the formula begins as a very thin, liquid-like consistency but “dries” down to a gel-like one).

That color is beautiful on you! And I even wonder if I can wear it. Too purple (MAC Heroine) and my kids threaten to take the item away! This looks softer than most with a purple undertone. Since I like purple eye shadows I love glosses with just a slight purple undertone. Am I right that this color is more wearable than most like products? On you it’s certainly stunning…

My kids mean well. They’re just very opinionated and don’t like too much glitter or too bold an eye color. It can be a mood killer…when I really like something…but they do back off. Except Heroine. For some reason they both just hate that one shade! This one is so pretty….

I know exactly what you mean about mood killer! Even if you LOVE LOVE something on you (whatever it is, makeup, clothes, etc.), when someone says, “I hate that on you” or “you look awful in that,” it plants a little seed of doubt and does ruin it a little. It takes a lot of confidence and attitude to be able to 100% tune out the noise.

I was just considering purchase of this one! I’ve been inspired to buy some ‘Orchid’ makeup items, and this seems perfect!!! Do you think it would look good on a Medium/Light Olive skin tone with yellow undertones? Thanks! Love it on you!

This is one of my favorite lip products! I haven’t worn it in a while, so thanks for reminding me to bring it out. I think I’ll wear it tomorrow! Great review!
