YSL Fuchsia Dore (14) Glossy Stain Review, Photos, Swatches

YSL Fuchsia Dore (14) Glossy Stain
YSL Fuchsia Dore (14) Glossy Stain

YSL Fuchsia Dore (14) Glossy Stain ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a reddish pink with subtle, very fine gold shimmer. Chanel Triomphal is slightly redder. MAC Plum Fun is cooler-toned. Bobbi Brown Black Ruby is similar–not as opaque. See comparison swatches.

All of the Glossy Stains I’ve tried have definitely turned redder applied than they do in the tube, and this one was no exception. It turns to more of a reddish berry with gold shimmer–but it looks almost warm-toned when I’ve applied it, compared to how it looks in the tube or just swatched on the skin. Overall, the color is mostly opaque (you can see my lip freckle peeking through). The color gets pinker and less red as the gloss and stain wear and wear; the glossiness lasts four to five hours, while the stain lingers for upwards of eight hours. The consistency is thin and very liquid (feels a lot like water), and it has a strong grape scent. After ten minutes or so, the product thickens and turns into more of a thin, gel consistency that’s lightly tacky. It was neither hydrating nor drying when I wore it.

I haven’t tried L’Oreal’s version (they’re both under L’Oreal the parent), so it’s possible that that is close enough not to merit the price point. Generally speaking, though, they wear long and well, come in 29478234 shades, don’t dry lips out, aren’t too tacky. I think I might have one or two of L’Oreal’s somewhere around here, but testing this type of product is a pain (they stain almost immediately, so I can only swatch that one product for an entire day or else the underlying stain will interfere with presenting other colors accurately), so it takes me awhile 🙂

Haha thank you for your reply! I’ve tried the L’oreal one and find that you really have to layer it to get the right colour, and when it wears off it leaves a slightly blotchy stain. Also, they can be quite sticky, worse than lipgloss almost. The YSL ones have GORGEOUS shades though, so one or two are probably worth it 🙂

From my experience, the ysl ones have a longer lasting power and they are a lot more pigmented than the loreal ones. However, if i were to start all over again, id probably try the loreal ones first to see if i liked the formulation and the like. Both of them do require 2 to 3 coats to attain the colour and result youre looking for.

I can definitely vouch for the L’Oreal versions Christine has mentioned! They’re the same formula (YSL’s shade range is just larger and more pigmented), but both versions are worth a look 🙂 I would recommend the L’Oreal version to try, and then the YSL range to expand your collection!

Hi, Christine!

I read your blog every day and though I’m in Brazil (which means I will find the products you review a few months later or won’t find at all because some of the things aren’t sold here), I really like your blog and how you show and describe each product.

Can I give you a suggestion? I really enjoy when you show lipsticks and glosses and when you tell how long they lasted on you. In a case like this one, you could also post an image of how it was after some hours of use or after it changed the texture. I guess it makes it easier for us to see the result.

I don’t know if I explained it well… lol

Anyway, I love your blog and wish you all the best!

Kisses!

This color, as it looks on your lips, is almost a dead ringer for how Loreal’s glossy stain in Infinite Fuchsia looks on me. The only major difference I see is that this has gold shimmer.

Just thought I’d throw that out there is someone liked this color but wanted a cheaper alternative (or one without shimmer if that’s their taste).

Gosh, this is stunning! A bit more sophisticated and interesting than the one you featured earlier that was similar to MAC Impassioned, which I also loved. Will definitely have to check this out 🙂

I find this color so easy to wear! It’s been in my bag all summer. These leave a nice color as they fade, but are also super easy to touch up.
