What's your go-to tool & technique for applying eyeliner?
I usually wear pencil eyeliner, so I just apply directly to my lower lash line using the pencil. I tend to short strokes so that I can sure even coverage and that I get between my lasehs.

Cheap angled brush from the craft store and Maybelline gel liner with a drop of Inglot Duraline.
I use a pencil eyeliner. Short strokes on upper lashline. As close to the lashline as I can get. I don’t do wings or use liquid or cream liners. I don’t apply to bottom lashline usually. I take a flat top eyeliner brush and smooth out line.
I either use a pencil or an angled eyeliner brush with a cream.
I don’t wear any on my lower lashline or waterline, and a lot of the time I’ll just use a darker shadow as my eyeliner.
Liquid liner with a swipe of a Qtip to clean it up
I prefer a pencil liner and then I take my smudger brush (my fave is a Sephora one that was cheap as chips but was discontinued; I love it because it has a short handle and I’m short sighted so need to get in close to the mirror) to smudge and soften the line.
Most often I will use the front tip of my flat shader brush to press a dark shadow into my lash line after I have finished doing my lid. It’s much more forgiving to do in a hurry before work. My next best is using a liquid liner pen on the long edge, similarly to press just a thin line right at the base of the lashes, or to use a gel in a similar way as I would powder. I actually have the most trouble getting a smooth reliable result with pencil so I have just one brown pencil that rarely gets used because it’s too risky that I’ll mess it up on a workday 😀 My lashline isn’t very smooth to start and I have trouble getting my lid to relax and not scrunch while I do it so maybe that’s why I struggle.
I use my Luxie 215 Small Angle brush for tightlining my upper lashline by picking up some of my MJ Blaquer Highliner pencil onto its tip, as doing it this way is far less wasteful of product. And far more precise! Then for my winged liner, I use an Essence eyeliner brush. It has just enough firmness to get crisp clean lines. As for my lower lashline, that is usually pencil liners.
I don’t wear eyeliner very often. When I do, I tightline my upper lashline using an e.l.f. angled eyeliner brush. Sometimes I also use KVD Tattoo Liner on my upper lashline. I find the brush in her eyeliner to be pretty easy to use, which says a lot because eyeliner is such a struggle for me.
Sadly, eyeliner just doesn’t look good on my hooded eyes…..
Pencils eyeliner, a few rather creamy also I wear on eyelid but then use a Qtip to smudge it soft and is hardly seen. Results? Not great! Lol!
Someday! Someday! I will master the smoky eyes a day before I die.
Forgot to add I don’t eyeliner in the daytime only for an evening out and as close to lid birder as possible. Often forget to do the bottom which does help to brighten my eyes a bit. I just forget but do fine the hard small brush excellent for that job especially when using powder shadows. I should make a note to use them on top & bottom more often. Thanks for the reminders.
99% of the time I use a pencil liner on the outer 2/3 of my top and lower lid. Tightline the upper lid with a darker liner and a lighter liner on the bottom. If I use liquid liner I use the Vamp Stamp with the liner brush that comes with their kit.
I use pencils almost exclusively, so … standard application for a pencil. I do have a couple gel pot eyeliners but I only use them very rarely; when I do, an angled eyeliner brush.
Pencil I use on the underside of my upper lashine/waterline up into the base of my lashes.
For liquid or gel liner I use a tiny Wayne Goss brush that has a flat tip & short, dense, hairs and I press it into the base of my lashes from above. Sometimes I build it up to a thicker line, mostly I just tightline.
