I like that you can often get more for your money – so value sets and kits! I’m not so much into the mega palettes, but some of the palettes you find during the holiday season are really nice.

That we only see certain things around this time, ie; those adorable snowflake Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Neige, or something like a crazy-but-fun UD Vice palette or something along those lines. Better STILL: fun plus bang for your $’s; MUFE 15 Artist Shadow palette!
But also, the DEALS. Skincare kits that are value packs with a little extra something or two included, the Sephora kits especially are fan-freakin-tastic, like Give Me Some Lip! This year’s looks really nice!
Packaging
The LE packaging! I like a beautiful holiday compact or palette. There’s been a little too much gold for my taste these past few years though, I prefer when brands launch something more unique (like Guerlain’s Meteorites snow ball or Smashbox Master Class colorful packaging this year).
The special packaging and good deals.
Yes!
I’m not interested in the big “all in one” palettes with eyeshadow, blush, mascara, lipstick and what not. However, I really love “value” sets with multiple lip products in them (mini or full-size – I don’t care!). Or sometimes just the cute holiday packaging.
I just wish I could buy them. I’m from the Netherlands and I have to pay A LOT of shipping and taxes. It’s not worth it when you almost have to pay double the original price. Wish they sold value/holiday sets over here, because I believe there is a market for it. MAC sells great so…
Yes! I’m in Europe, too, and I WEEP when I see all the pretty makeup that I’ll never get to have (I *could* have it, in theory, but it would cost me an arm and a leg and I just don’t live that life).
I am from Australia and the same applies here. I am surprised that everything is so expensive in The Netherlands. But it is VERY annoying to read of great deals and products and you cannot get them. I know your pain…
Awe ? I know your pain , living in Canada has its perks but we are limited sometimes in comparison to what the USA offers their customers !
Getting to try out mini sizes of full size permanent products, I wish more brands would do this. 😉
I guess the exclusivity and the stunning designs.
Yes! I love that we get “samplers” of brands!
They often feature more variety in smaller sizes, and that suits me.
This is like my #1 favorite part of holiday sets.
It’s the one time of the year that I look forward to packaging. I really care more about quality but I expect pretty gold or sparkly packaging or designs for holiday collections. I am disappointed with MAC’s packaging this year. What were they thinking?
MAC dropped the ball completely this year; the quality seems to be horrible all across the board, too. I don’t understand how this can happen for a company has big as this and with their reputation. You’d think someone, somewhere tested these products and saw they were terrible? Apparently not.
That certain shades and products are being re-promoted, meaning the brand sees them as classic, must-have. This makes sense to someone who is new to the brand about what to get to cover the ground.
Also, the value. They are mostly great deals in terms of money value and the actual products they contain. To me, the only question left out there is that how much percentage of the products there do I actually want, minus some shades I would never or barely wear.
Back in the day, the GWP/PWP’s were always something to look forward to, especially from brands that also carried fragrance. Now, I look forward to the larger palettes, although I wish the packaging on the smaller items was more consistent with the permanent range.
I like that you can often get mini sizes of lots of different products to try. I rarely pan a makeup product anyways.
more product for the buck! Sometimes spending $50 on one thing can be painful, but during the holidays, $50 for a holiday thing is SUCH a good deal (obv. if it’s worth the quality etc.)
you usually get to try a deluxe sample of a brands products as well. It’s a good way to get your toes wet in other brands/areas of makeup without committing to a full price.
I like the value sets. Sometimes I just like quantity and variety, so I like being able to get a bunch of things, especially lip products.
I don’t really go for the palettes because I’m pretty loyal to Urban Decay eye shadow and have seven UD palettes (plus a few other brands).
I love checking out the fancy packaging and pretty colors even if I’m not buying it. I suppose It’s the frustrated graphic designer stuck inside this non-artistic body.
Yes, love the value sets –it’s my chance to try a brand that’s new to me, especially an expensive one. Also love any promos/sales and unique packaging (Too Faced Paris theme, Guerlain snowflakes & stars), LE items, etc.
Make-up brush travel kits!!
All the new products and glitz and glam. More toys.
The larger variety of sets of smaller items are something I like (ie Sephora’s Give Me More Lip, though some full size items were in there) as you can try out thing. For example, I’ve been eyeing the Burberry Mini Beauty Box at Sephora (this thing: http://www.sephora.com/burberry-mini-beauty-box-P399662) as it’s a way to try out a higher end brand at a more reasonable price. Same goes for the Marc Jacobs Lip set (http://www.sephora.com/the-sofia-five-piece-petites-le-marc-lip-creme-collection-P399780?skuId=1718089&icid2=gifts_category_giftsforher_carousel1_gifts_p399780_image) and the Marc Jacobs Highliner set (http://www.sephora.com/the-sky-liner-petite-highliner-gel-eye-crayon-collection-P399779?skuId=1718071&icid2=mjb_lp_whatsnew_carousel_us_brand:marc%20jacobs%20beauty_p399779_image)
You also get some truly standout pieces like the Hourglass Blush Palette (I wish that one was permanent!) that are also better value for money than individual items like the sample sets.
The holidays are so exciting for me so anticipating something pretty and shiny from holiday cosmetic collections is fun!
I am not a fan of the mega palettes either – too many colours I would not use. But I do like a lot of the deals and sets that come out before Christmas and the holidays – often at pretty good prices. I got a great Clinique mascara out of one last year. So sometimes you do get to use products that normally you wouldn’t.
I’m all about the deals, especially skincare sets or discovery sets. Plus all the minis!
the LE packaging, the value & all the sparkly highlighters! 🙂
Value and the opportunity to try new products
Quality/value is a priority… but I love a beautiful presentation! However, releasing holiday items before November seems to take away some of the magic for me. I would enjoy holiday collections more if they were sent out for reviews (to bloggers) beforehand but were slowly released to the public throughout the month of November. Having some of my Christmas gifts stuffed in a drawer for over two months kind of quells the excitement of opening them. =(
I totally agree with you Christine !
The sampler value kits are perfect , I’m the kind of person who gives a few things in a gift for a person , not just the one large present but a few small nice presents in one and I love how you can basically buy any kit and a product or item might end up really working for them ! I love trying new things and love getting more for my money 🙂 I bought a few kits and I love a few products in each I definitely will be repurchasing and recommending !!
Great value..much more makeup to play with and try out..lots of color.
I love the value sets! I’m not very good at using up products so sampler versions of normally more expensive products are generally pretty appealing to me. Unless the samples are ridiculously tiny or something. Also some companies have very nice exclusive/LE colors in their holiday lineups, although others end up with painfully generic shade selections. Which is sad. I don’t particularly enjoy mega palettes though, so I usually go for smaller eyeshadow palette sets or lip product sets.
I’m a sucker for cute packaging and I love the ability to either try multiple products that I have never all at once, and or the value of getting multiple staples in one shot.
