What's your go-to look for a fall dinner party?

What’s your go-to look for a fall dinner party? Share!
Makes me think of Thanksgiving, and with that, I usually opt for a mix of golds, coppers, and plums! I think last year I used Guerlain’s Turandot palette, and I might do the same this year.

Thanks to Summer for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.

I don’t know that I actually have an autumn dinner party look. Thanksgiving is long past here (in Canada, it’s in early October since it’s a harvest festival rather than the anniversary of a particular event) so we’re into the insanity that is the lead up to Xmas! I was at a celebratory BRUNCH yesterday but that’s pretty different. I guess if I have a “look” for parties at this time of year, it’s probably “same old/same old” but with some good setting powder, a bit of cheek highlight (Hello, Cruel Gardenia!) and a red lip (Clarins Red Wine or Chanel Pirate).

I keep my eyes neutral and soft with powder liners instead of pencil or liquid liner. This is the one time of year that I will mix it up a bit with a plum or burgundy or, gasp, red lipstick. Blush is not obvious but still there and I will use something glow-y but not sparkly to wisk over the completed look with a big fluffy brush. I have a Suqqu powder brush coming to me thanks to a friend who is in London right now. Can’t wait to get that in my hands for the “wisking” part!

Lately I’ve been totally feeling burgundy on the eyes, I’ve been using Maybelline’s Pomegrante Punk as a base and layering red browns (think MAC’s Antiqued) Rose Gold’s (L’Oreal Amber Rush) and also burgundy shades that I have in a few of my Tarte palettes and creating a smokey eye, natural cheeks Nars Madly or Sin (for a little more color) and a rosy nude lip Clinique. Chubby stick Whole Lotta Honey!

For dinner parties with a legitimate sit down dinner I usually do a matte neutral cut crease eye and a maroon or burgundy lip with some shine. If I’m going to be nibbling all night though I tend to go for a lower maintenance matte pinky nude lip and a more colourful eye with dark green, navy, or plum.

Plums or coppers on the eyes with deep black liner.
Mid-plum or deep wine colored lips. Love mahogany lips too.

Blush is usually layered and might include NARS Dolce Vita, MAC Lovejoy or similar autumn look.

If I was going to a dinner party, I would probably wear a decent amount of eye makeup and something simple on the lips or a stain (so I can touch it up easily). But for Thanksgiving, I keep it really simple. I don’t want to spend the entire holiday putting my makeup on and I have so much to cook! I will probably wear MAC Sable on my eyes and I love a red blush!
