Christine, I know exactly what you mean! My little Empriente du Desert has been getting quite a workout this past month, as I’m fairly certain yours is too! Haha!
And when it’s not that, or another greenish theme, then it is purples. Vivid sunset eye with purple, smokey purple, shimmering purple, etc.

No lie….I nearly bought a 2nd Empreinte du desert at the duty free on my way home from New York!!! I didn’t take mine with me when I went for a week but, oh man, did I ever miss it. I’m actually surprised I use it as much as I do but I’d been using it almost every day since buying it. The hubs and I are going back to NYC at the end of July or beginning of August (before our son leaves to come back to Ontario) and if they still have it, I honestly think I will buy it then, if the price (given the exchange/CDN dollar) makes it not cost more than I paid here.

Basically anything from the ABH Modern Renaissance palette. (I’m telling y’all, I’m going to hit pan on this thing in a month or two at the rate I’m going!)
Today I did a combination of Golden Ochre, Burnt Orange, Realgar, Red Ochre, and Primavera. I’ve also been using Antique Bronze, Buon Fresco, Warm Taupe, and sometimes Cyprus Umber together.
So with your neutral combo. Wearing it to death..

I’ve been feeling pretty lazy lately, so just Loreal Infallible in Iced Latte blended all over the lid! I did get the UD Gwen Stefani palette on clearance, so perhaps I’ll switch it up soon and do one of those zillion pale nudes instead. 😉
Any combo of shimmers and mattes from the Lorac Unzipped palette. The warm bronzes and browns are perfect for summer. The shadows are pigmented and blend like butter. And it’s one of the most goof-proof palettes ever made. In the morning, I can slap colors on my lid, do some minimal blending, and it all looks great. The colors go with almost everything, and the shades last all day and night over primer without creasing, fading, or fallout. I thought that since I’m cool toned, I wouldn’t be able to pull off the warmer colors, but nope, they look great. My only regret is not getting this palette sooner!

Soft brown as a transition shade, brown script on the outer corner and all that glitters in the center. All MAC shadows. I’m in love with this trio!
Bit of a cheat, but my go-to eyeshadow combination lately has been no eyeshadow, just false lashes. I’m a lash hoarder and recently I’ve been loving to show off my collection with no distractions.
Because I’ve been away for a week, I’ve been doing simple looks from the original Naked palette – Virgin on the lid with Naked in the crease (quick and easy “go to” for getting out fast to start a full day in the oppressive heat and humidity of NYC); Virgin with Toasted and Darkhorse for a bit more drama. Naked stood me in good stead for the whole week but I’m ready to move on now that I’m home.
A cream mink colored shadow all over and a touch of a matte burgundy in the outer v…sometimes I’ll add a yellow-y tan in the crease to buff out the mink shade. It is a very simple look but perfect for summer
Timely question. I’ve been trying to simplify that part of the routine a bit, so I’ve been going with a generic neutral. I like it for the summer. I am looking forward to reading the responses here because this is an area I could use some ideas. If you’re willing to share what brushes you use, that would be great too!

If I feel like it and want a bit more depth, I’ll add MAC Smudge in the outer V, taking it around to the line the lower lash line.
I usually MAC Devotion pencil on the lower lash line (hate the texture of that pencil, love the color). Then go over it with Saddle or Smudge, depending.
MAC Shroom or MUG Shimma Shimma under the brow
Liner, mascara and good to go.
Linda, what is MAC Smudge? Shadow or liner? I’ve never heard of it but it sounds like something I absolutely need in my collection…shades like Soot, Smut and now Smudge – those names all suggest shades that I really love.

Oops, I mis-remembered! I would have bet the house the shadow was called Smudge. Then your question make me look, and it’s really called Sketch — a deep burgundy with a shimmer. I’ve had it for a least two years and keep going back to it time and again. Sorry about the brain cramp!
(Smudge is a great name, though, isn’t it? 🙂 )
Linda, thanks for clearing that up for me. And, yeah, “Smudge” is a great name…I’m actually surprised there isn’t a shadow with that name already. Sketch is a great shadow but, oddly enough, it’s one I don’t own because I have a Wet n Wild dupe from years ago that I use but now that MAC has cut its prices for pro pans, I should probably buy it.
I have been LOVING Benefit’s “call my buff” all over my lid to the brow-bone with Laura Mercier’s “african violet” in the crease. Alternatively, a bit of MAC “warm soul” blush in the crease. Pretty simple as far as eyeshadow routines go, but the texture/finish of these products are so silky and sheeny/sheer, it comes off as something like “ambient lighting eyeshadow” because they remind me of Hourglass face powders’ effects.
I got Call My Bluff in a kit, and it’s the only shadow I’ve ever hit pan on! I use almost everyday, and I think I hit pan about a year ago, but it’s still going strong. Great shade to brighten up my brow bone area without any shimmer
I switch it up all the time, but lately have needed something quick and easy so found this look from Pixiwoo on youtube.

I also work this same base with Anastasia antique bronze on top of the trax. It makes for a really interesting and nuanced eye. I also pair with a shimmery warm taupe pencil (UD underground) instead of the purple for a less intense lined look.
Another great combo for a simple shimmery smoky summer eye is MAC patina on top of the powersurge.
Easy peasy
Wendy, a few years ago now, I purchased Powersurge after seeing a Canadian youtuber using it as a base for Trax – the exact look you described. It opened my eyes – figuratively – to using MAC liners as bases. I used Rosemary and Thyme to breath life into Greensmoke (a beauty in the pan but a let-down when applied).
I don’t have a go-to; I change every day. I’ve been into greens and teals a lot the last few months, as well as warm orangey-browns and peaches with lavender and purples. My Too Faced PB & J palette has been used frequently. For neutrals, I’ve been loving the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea palette and my UD x Gwen Stefani Palette, and setting the lighter eye look off with brightly colored or glittery eyeliners.
Any lightly shimmery yellow/gold eyeshadow with a dark brown or navy blue eyeshadow as eyeliner. It brightens up my eyes and gives definition without being too harsh, and it also brings out the different colours in my eyes.
I have deep set eyes so I usually like to wear light colors around my eyes to counteract the natural shadows around them AND it’s summer so I am even more likely to go with subtle brightening shades. I’ve been using my new ABH Glisten a lot, sometimes by itself and sometimes in combo with other colors, like light pinks (ABH Macaroon or the light pink shade from the Tartlette, I forget what it’s called) and creamy colors. On Friday I wore one of my fave combinations though, MUG Peach Smoothie on the lid and MUG Mango Tango in the crease. Such a pretty summer combo.
I tend to stick to neutrals, only using pops of colour on the weekends and for going out. A typical workday look would be a pale, shimmering gold on the lid, a mid-tone satin/matte brown in the crease (sometimes I’ll use a reddish brown like MAC Sketch instead) with a pale satin skin tone colour on the brow bone. I’ll then use a shimmering eyeliner or eyeshadow on the lower lash line, which is changeable, but usually neutral and subtle, neither too dark not too light. I’ll put a thin line of black pencil eyeliner on my upper lash line and smudge it a bit to soften the look. Then I finish with a good waterproof mascara and my eyes are good to go. ?
I was so faithful to my UD naked 2. Then in a bundle buy I received from Mally, I’m in love with her cream eyeshadow sticks. I use two, one highlighting for upper lids and corners of eyes then a medium brown for crease and outer eyes. I’ve never had my eyes ready so fast.
I like to change it up everyday but when I’m in a hurry I reach for my favorite cream shadow singles, colourpop, loreal singles, milani singles, etc….usually in shades of cream, green, brown

Honestly my eyes are the one look I never repeat. Not saying I haven’t tried. I know I do a look and after I’m done I say, “DAAAAAANG. I look Goooood!” And, then completely forget what’s on there and spend a week trying to recreate it. So, now I generally randomly pick a shadow or palette and then go from there.

I’ve been doing a very lightened up summer look. I’m using a light application of the lightest shade of the first Wet n Wild triple palette from lash to brow bone, Colour Pop rose gold focusing mainly on the center of the lid. An NYX light taupe in the crease focusing mainly on the inner and outer shade of the crease. A thin, light, smudgy line of the light taupe about 2/3 across under lower lashes starting from outer edge. A light line of Jane rose gold eyeliner on upper lash line. Brown/black mascara (as always). Takes about 2 minutes!

I somehow manage to stick to the same type of eye all day every day haha. I’m always into the golds/bronzes/peaches; chocolate brown to smoke it out with a shimmery gold/peach on lid. Although I’ve been doing similar colors with a halo smokey eye as well. A few of my Makeup Geek shadows or my Lancome shadows (they sent me a bunch of PR), or my UD Gwen Stefani palette…

No go to, but I did a Fourth of July red, white, and blue today with MUG Razzleberry, Zoeva cool #1 (matte white ) Zoeva cool #11 (Prussian blue) to the crease and over Ulta indigo gel liner and outer v. Blinc navy masc. maybe the same colors in a different app tomorrow, for the real fourth.

Its summer so I don’t go to heavy on the shadows. I like Naked 1 and 2. Also Smashbox and Tom Fords nudes. I love my shadows, just like the next make-up junkie, but with the heat and humidity, last thing I need is my makeup sliding off my lids.
UD Mushroom, Pistol with either bareminerals Editor’s pick for a teal look, or YDK or Suspect for a neutral look.
I have also been using the bareminerals duo The Scenic Route – that spectacular olive shade is heavenly as well.

I keep finding myself using some variation on peaches, oranges, and orange-browns for the crease and transition area, with purples or plums (red to blue, doesn’t matter) on the the lid area. I tend not to do the “traditional” darker crease, preferring to have a dark lid (darkest next to the lash line) that blends out to continually lighter colors approaching my browbone, so when I say purples on the lid, they tend to be medium to medium-dark and pretty intense. Also, I really don’t like shimmery colors in or above the crease, so it’s matte peaches, oranges, and orange-browns, while the lid color tends to be shimmery or a duochrome.
FWIW, based on my recent browsing habits, I feel a blue/blue-grey lid and liner with matte mustard, yellow-browns, and peach phase coming on.
Any of the warm orangy shades from the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette with a light shimmery champagne or peach pigment.
A mini trio of nude mattes from a Smashbox try-it kit with a super shiny opalescent highlight in the inner third of the lid and inner corner!
The highlight I use is Essence Irresistible Vanilla Latte, $3.49 btw, it has a dupe for KVD Thunderstruck and a sparkly gold, I like to use either just the Thunderstruck dupe or mix them together, but the gold has too much fallout for me to use on its own.
I’m all about thick liner and and a frosty champagne eye!
Me too, Christine! I don’t repeat often, but I keep a few on deck for when I don’t have time to make decisions. Lately, it’s been yellow, yellow, yellow…Wet n Wild Color Icon shadow pencil in Chiquita Sunrise, and/or the dark yellow in the NYX Ultimate Ombre palette in Brights. Maybe the dark brown from Naked Basics in the crease.
An all matte neutral eye…it’s quick and easy.
