What would your dream makeup room or set-up look like?

What would your dream makeup room or set-up look like? Share!

I have my dream storage (that’s both dream/still realistic — in dream world, everything would be displayed, haha!) in glossy black drawer units. I would love a vanity with a sink in it… but a really wide vanity with a small sink in it – more like a vegetable sink!

It would like a Sephora store, thousands of products, all on display. Lots of mirrors. And different lighting (natural, office, evening), so I can check out my makeup under different settings.

I’m sorry to say this, but the question doesn’t match your answer again! But I agree with you on the vanity, I’m currently searching for one of those! 🙂

Ooooooh I love fantasizing about this. Okay, let’s see. A big, white vanity near a big window (best lighting!) with a nice view on a busy city (but high in the sky so people don’t see me putting on makup, I don’t know I find that awkward for a reason, haha). On the vanity I would place my Muji cases and in case my collection grows out of them, I would like a vanity with some drawers in them. Aaah I’m done. A sink in the vanity is a great idea! The hassle with walking towards a sink is the no. 1 reason why I don’t want to buy the beautyblender 🙂

I’d love to have my own room with plenty of windows to let in natural light. Gray walls with white trim and white furniture. I’d love bigger storage than what I currently have now (I have those plastic drawers that rest in a metal frame and the drawers shed plastic everywhere from opening/closing them). Wooden storage, shallow drawers (like the Ikea Alex 6 drawers – the wider ones) and a big vanity desk with a big mirror and bright lights. I’d love it to be L shapes so part can be by the window for natural lighting and the other part can have the mirror with bulb lighting. I’d also love to have my clothes in there – so I guess it could really just be a walk-in closet with a window in it. A girl can dream!

A window for natural light, a three-fold mirror, and illumination along the side of the mirror are key for me. A vanity/seated setup is best because I like to sit while I do my makeup.

I’d actually prefer a sorting system that lets me sort products by use level rather than by type or brand — for instance, one drawer with just my every-day basics, big enough that I can see every product when I open the drawer. The second drawer would be my “I’m taking an important picture/I’m cosplaying” drawer; I wouldn’t need to have easy visual access to everything, I would just need to generally know where everything is so that I can pull the products I need. The third drawer would be stuff I haven’t used in months (if ever) but for some reason I can’t bring myself to throw away, like “those MUFE feather eyelashes I have absolutely no use for,” most nail polishes, 9001 almost-identical lip stains, Ben Nye pigments for cosplay I don’t intend to do in the near future, etc. As long as that drawer had some system of organization, I’d be good.

All I want is a pretty vanity with a mirror and drawers that my makeup can fit in, so I have room on top for jewelry boxes or little knickknacks. Maybe pink or with flowers painted on it? Something very rococo!

I have a vintage art deco vanity that is probably my most prized posession. It’s almost identical to the one Prince had in Purple Rain, actually, and I would assume from the same maker. It’s perfect, except that I wish I had the original stool to match it and that I have horrible lighting. I often put on blush in my dim bedroom and realize it’s overdone once I check the mirror in daylight.

Does anyone have recommendations for lighting a makeup table? Maybe something from Amazon or Ikea that works well? I considered getting photography lights but they were so pricey for something that was probably designed to do a lot more than I really needed that I skipped them.

So I think a sink in the vanity would be awesome. I actually think I saw a perfect sink for just a project recently on the home improvement blog sawdustandembryos in their new laundry room. They’re Duravit Bathroom Sink 0764650000. You can see on the blog that they’re quite small.

OMG..I definitely need better lighting. I would in a dream world have a separate room with a sink..I guess my dream would be what Christine has, lol! But, I really do not need that at all. But, I do have a nice alcove area in my bedroom. The lighting is just awful. I actually received a good amount of $ from family and a couple of close friends for my Bday in February to build a better set-up. My uncle is a builder. So, he is finally supposed to come next week to get some plans together to custom build some stuff. He is trowing in closet revamping too! I am pretty excited. But, I just learned that we may be relocating this summer. So, I am hopping he can do something I can take with me as far as the closet, lol.I guess, either way, it will increase the value of the home.

Nicole Avatar

I will! He lives an hr away. So he’s been waiting until he could come to look at the sizes of my makeup pieces lol! I have a feeling I’m going to be embarrassed! Most people where I live have a makeup bag ,not cabinet.oh well, its my thing. He does great work, he built their deck and bar,etc..I’m really excited!

My dream makeup room would be some what setup the way I have it now except the room wouldn’t double as my bed room too lol. I would keep my vanity andand add a 2 or 3 draw malm unit from IKEA, display my nail polishes. Add an additional desk for my computercomputer and a lounge chair and ottoman so I can read!

Lys Avatar

Actually, I haven’t thought about it! I guess the biggest must for me is good lighting and a large mirror. Oh and maybe a vanity where I can sit down, because now I always do my makeup standing up so I can look in the mirror.

Erin Avatar

I think it would be part of a spa bath with just enough space for my everyday items with perfect lighting and a comfy place to sit. I’d have overflow storage in my huge and perfect closet for my perfume stash and my collectable or seasonally rotated makeup and skincare.

Brooke Avatar

Small, white furniture, glass and mirrors, excellent Hollywood styled vanity lights. Lots of silver and luminescent/ pearl colored vases and wall decor. A fuzzy vibrant colored rug. A makeup chair. With a nice pillow to sit on. I’d also need to have a separate hair vanity. So maybe a bench with another big mirrored and lighted vanity. Plus a fabulous station for my supplies. Got my lottery tickets lmao! One day

My dream is to have a small area off the master bedroom, but not in the bathroom, where I could store and apply my makeup. Lots of windows with natural light, and great overhead lighting too for night time. A nice big vanity with lots of drawer space would be ideal. There would be a chair that I could sit on while applying makeup at the vanity. The middle of the vanity would not have anything on top of it so that I could place what I want to use each day in that location, then easily return it to it’s home in the vanity after use. On the right top of the vanity I would have a crystal tray on which to display my perfume bottles. On the left top of the vanity I would have another crystal tray with glass tumblers in which I would store my make up brushes. I would have a stash of clean white towels in the room so that I could place a fresh one on the vanity each day to catch any spills. Oh, and of course I would be able to persuade someone else to launder those towels! Yeah, a girl can dream.

Everything stored away in matching storage, painted-wood, with shallow drawers and easy-glide action, with my most-used for a season rotated onto into a bathroom drawer.

Donna Avatar

My room would have a lot of light that is like daylight, a 5 X mirror that moves, a small sink – I like that vegetable sink idea – and a lot of white counter space. It would need to be a counter that cleans easily! Lots of shallow drawers and a space heater in the winter. Hey – I live in Northern New England.

Tarah Avatar

It would be a closet then bathroom off my bedroom with a corner tub and then a corner makeup station with windows to the left and right of me I would have some small daily perfumes as well as my makeup on a Victorian style vanity ! That’s my dream makeup room lol

Brittany Avatar

I’d love to be able to have a bigger space where I have a large desk or counter and room to sit down with a nice, large, light-up mirror. I’d have some sleek black drawers to keep all of my makeup in. I currently just have the tiniest desk ever (Office Max called it a “computer cart!”) with a broken rolling chair that needs replacing and I’ve totally outgrown my little three-drawer plastic Sterilite case. :/

Nancy T Avatar

Ok, so I reeeally had to think about the vegetable sink part, and then it hit me, for blush cleaning! Duh! Lol! As for my dream makeup set-up: I just wish my bedroom was a *teensy* bit bigger so that I could put a normal size vanity and chair in there, preferably by a window, and then have my stash better organized as there would be better than a 10 × 12 space to work with! At this time, all my makeup is in a 3 drawer rolling plastic container and also taking up an entire large dresser drawer…crazy.

I think I would like shelving with glass doors lined up against a wall–so I can see everything I own at a glance but also keep out dust. Each shelf would be labeled and all items neatly stored in transparent containers and/or drawer units. I would have a curtain installed in front of the shelving in case I don’t want to see all of it. Along that same wall, I would like a window to let in natural light I would have a cart with a tabletop close-by so I can put items on it as I walk by (as I “shop” my collection). I would also have a counter-top with a vanity close-by. Mirrors of course–set at an angle so I can see front, sides and back. I would also have a corner somewhere for my “drawing board” (ideas, inspiration, clippings, etc.).

I already have my own room and I’ve got three Helmer units, so I have all the storage I need at the moment. What I’d really like is a nice vintage or custom vanity with room on it for a custom storage unit for my BPAL collection–there’s someone on Etsy who does gorgeous work. Add some decent lighting and I’d be good to go.

Ih wow!! Like a humongous celebrity closet.
With a special largel area with glass selves.
Lots of light natural make up vanity.
Shelves would be right side all make up in catagories labaled
Left all skin care the same way! Comfortable.
Beautiful brush holders. Organizers. Lipstick buy color categories,
Gloss, sheer, opaque! Bathroom to the back!
Spa.. Dreaming in Wi.

This is a fun question – we all love to dream!

My storage isn’t perfect, but I’m very satisfied with it and not looking to change it. Something I would love and isn’t a huge luxury is a better mirror and lighting to apply makeup and it’s my next step.

But a dream… My bedroom would be nicely decorated, maybe turquoise walls with white vanity and certain accessories (cusions, flowers, etc), feminine and with colourful artwork on the walls – things that make me smile. And the vanity would have a nice mirror, not just rectangle but a decorative border, beautiful lighting and my makeup easily accessible from there. A few small shelves around the area for decorative/display purposes.

right now i have a 2nd hand clothing drawer that i use to hold my stuff. ideally id like something with shallower drawers so im not wasting space & more drawers. i actually like standing when putting on my make up so something tall would be good. but mostly i’d like more space. that would be ideal!
