What would you love to see more of from brands in 2023?
I’d love to see more cream-based products overall. I’d also love to see brands continue to improve upon diversity in product offerings, shade depths, marketing, etc.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Olive foundations, in all skin tone ranges. Warm and cool olive if I can ask for that also.
I would REALLY love to see PML return to its Luxury End feel that it had up until the past few years. Finding out in Morgan Turner’s video last night that the Star Wars version of Midnight Sun was NOT a lacquered painting, but a STICKER, just cheapens the brand, IMHO. And; Mother Pat, please bring back the LuxeTrance Lipstick formula in all the OG shades?
Also looking forward to seeing more Lisa Eldridge eyeshadow palettes, too! That’s luxury done right!
I’d like to see no fragrance in makeup products–especially in base products. Usually the scents are quite lovely but I’m always wary of applying it on my face.
Yes!! I’ve just had an outbreak of allergic contact dermatitis that I’m struggling to get rid of. I’ve been to my dermatologist twice and I’ve been using hydrocortisone cream but you’re not supposed to use it for extended periods of time. My skin looks alot better today but from now on, I’ll be looking for fragrance-free products.
I agree with you about cream based products especially cheek products!
I’d like to see more range in “neutral” colors, for example there were several palettes released in 2022 that treated green eyeshadow as a potential neutral (UD Wild Greens, Colourpop The Child and Sage the Day for example). Pink has already had it’s heyday as a neutral, so I’d like to see more eyeshadow palettes exploring blues and purples (I think Colourpop’s new Aurora is on the right track, but maybe a little too pastel rather than muted), blended with cool tans, greige, taupes and silvers.
More true cool toned cream shadows in light colored shades and pale cool toned highlighters. Vampires like highlighters too!
What I would love to see from brands in 2023:
Eyeshadows: a move away from pink and orange shades to include more muted jewel tones and hopefully a brand brave enough to release a palette without any mattes…
Lipsticks: I would more brands to release actual lipsticks and not so many liquid ones – preferably creamy and non matte
Foundations: For more brands to offer an array of shades to suit diverse skintones.
Continue working on diversity of race, gender, age, and size in advertising. There’s still a lot of room for improvement in making products for deeper skin tones. Define “clean beauty.” Produce things that are innovative, interesting, and creative. I know the pandemic and the current economy has hit makeup companies hard, but everything has gotten so boring. I’m not seeing a lot to make me want to give them my money.
I also love cream eyeshadows if they are very high quality, don’t dry out, and STAY PUT all day or night lol. They apply quickly and blend well just using a finger. They travel well too. Also…..I would like to see more luminous or satin lipstick formulas. Matte lipstick was never a favorite of mine. I like a little shine.
I had noticed an increase in creme products on the blog – I am taking it there is a lot of reader interest in these compared to powder now or is that a personal interest preference of yours? That is a development that has puzzled me as a consumer, since I like the longevity and cleanliness of powder products personally. I just have visions of pot products getting gunky and wand products drying up and it turns me off. Personally, I’d love to see mainstream brands getting more into indie-type finishes like duo/multichrome.
No, there’s just an increased amount of cream-based products releasing on the market, and I review mostly new products 🙂
