What were your favorite eyeshadow palettes from 2023?

Released this year… Chanel Parure Baroque, Clionadh Deep Sea Treasures, and Pat McGrath Lunar Night Shade. I’ll say that nothing was really AMAZING in terms of catching my eye this year (even if quality was good!).

I wouldn’t bet on it but I don’t think I’ve purchased an eyeshadow palette this year! I did want that Chanel LE one that I couldn’t get at the Chanel boutique at Haneda airport (sold out) and I do like the Pat McGrath one that Sephora has (but not in store anywhere near me and I just dislike ordering online without seeing something for myself). So no eyeshadow palettes for this gal! (I don’t think….)

Definitely my last two that I bought, Huda Beauty Pretty Grunge and Danessa Myricks Lightworks 5 palette are as perfect as it gets! However, I’ve also really been loving the looks that I have gotten from using my two Dior 5-Couleur palettes in Plum Tulle and Tutu, plus the Oden’s Eye x Makeup.Just.For.Fun “Flora Story” and Lauren “Sea Talk” palettes. These six in particular are ones that I have enjoyed using and have loved the looks I have gotten out of them!

Electrum Cosmetics Celestial Witch Palette
Ensley Reign Midwinter Palette (I got it in February, but maybe it was released previous year?)
Salem Cosmetics Forest Heart Palette

Out of palettes I used enough to LOVE LOVE. Fantasy Cosmetica Fighter Palette will likely be a favorite too…

The PMG lunar nightshade caught my eye as I’ve never tried her eyeshadows. But then I pulled out the SG x Temptalia On The Horizon and ND My Dream palettes and figured out very similar looks.

ND really had a great year, I’ve been dipping into the minis Star and blue Triochrome a lot, those are my faves this year.

I was more restrained with my eyeshadow palette purchases this year, at least in comparison to the past few years. My favourite formula still comes from Pat McGrath, even though I know some people say that her quality has gone down. I loved Lunar Night Shade for being different from her mostly pink-bronze offerings. But, with that being said, my favourite palette this year was Mothership XI: Sunlit Seduction. I have similar colour stories from other brands, but none compare to PML’s formula and performance. It’s such a wearable colour story for me, and I’ve reached for it a lot.

I’m sad that Sephora in Canada no longer carries Natasha Denona, since she seems to have been killing it this year. Ordering from her website is really expensive on this side of the border – much more expensive than it used to be from Sephora – so I haven’t picked up any of her new palettes.

I’m also in Canada and kept waiting and waiting in hopes that I Need a Nude would appear on the Sephora website, to no avail. Now I see the few ND items they do have have all been marked down. So distressing – they are carrying fewer and fewer brands in store (or at all) and many of the ones they do carry, like Smashbox, are only a limited selection of items. And I know what you mean about the costs involved ordering from the websites – shipping, exchange, duty can all pile up and be quite the sticker shock! Just one of the reasons I’ve purchased no e/s palettes this year (and very little other makeup).

This is likely cheating but since I hadn’t been buying or using eye shadow palettes for several years, the ones that I purchased this year are likely older but new to me and then a couple that are new this year.
Chanel: Tisse Rivoli, Tisse Vendome
YSL: Mini Clutch in Stora Dolls
Dior: Early Birds and Birds of a Feather
Hermes: 01 Ombres Petales
Natasha Denona: I Need a Nude palette
House of Sillage: The Mickey/Minnie Mouse collab palettes
Florasis: 01 Gold Brown.
I would love to get my hands on the Impression of Dai e/s palette but it is sold out every where and shockingly, not available on any secondary sales sites, at any price.

As you have said Christine, there wasn’t many standouts this year, like in the past. Even most of the HE brands, apart from Pat, released pretty poor offerings.
I haven’t bought any from this year’s collections at all, which says something.
However the two that I did buy – Pat McGrath’s Sublime Bronze Ambition has been fabulous – it really works well with the Subliminal Platinum Bronze palette that I purchased last year – because I do love the golds…
Another palette which I have received (for a Christmas present) is Tom Ford’s Suspicion quad – which I long admired, but couldn’t afford until it was on sale. Again – stunning quality as a blast from the past.

So in terms of eyeshadow palettes, it’s been a disappointing year.

Of the new or re-released palettes of 2023 I’m enjoying the makeup by Mario ethereal eyes, Sigma x Angela Bright palette and Caliray eye&cheek palette. The caliray is an almost daily staple for a quick out the door look.
And even though it wasn’t asked about I have to mention a palette I (almost) regret because I never use it is the danessa myricks groundwork palette- I’ll have to make myself pull it out more in 2024.

Flower Knows Swan Ballet is an automatic favorite. The Joocyee quads I’ve bought are incredible, too. For western brands, I think the only palettes I bought were the Natasha Denona My Dream with an Ulta point discount, and MBA’s Date Night (unless something is slipping my mind).

Adept Element 115, Cosmic Brushes Winter Wonderland, Danessa Lightworks ?V?, Glaminitrix Romantiqe?, not exactly sure on names/ver numbers… Unearthly… Devour, Fall Magic, sooo many more. Not sure if it was 2023, but I have to include Natasha Denona yucca. What a beautiful pallet.

Gaahhh all of them. I am such a magpie when it comes to eyeshadow and eyeshadow palettes. I might be off on the year whether it was released, this year or last year but Anastasia Rose Metals, Cosmos, Nouveau and the Fall Romance palettes. Also, Natasha Denona‘s palettes – love her formulas. I think the Yucca, I Need a Nude and My Dream Palette palettes were released this year? If they weren’t, I bought them this year and I’m loving them. The Yucca is a bit of a stretch for me because I typically just stick to my vast array of neutrals, but for neutrals with a twist, I’m really enjoying it. Anyway, I also bought a few of the Pat McGrath palettes but have yet to try them out. I like the look of them/color story/textures and I’ve always liked her formula so I’m sure I’ll be happy with those as well.

Natasha Denona midi Xenon, Viseart Etendu Vespertine and Kaleidos Venus Trap. I know some found the midi Xenon repetitive but the pinks, taupes, blues and champagne in my palette are visible as such so I think it’s a versatile color story.

My most used and appreciated palette from 2023 is the Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes easy eye palette, which I bought right at the end of 2022. This one got by far the most uses, also thanks to having a great browbone shade I’d use in conjuction with other palettes. I think the formula is fantastic and long lasting, and the finish is beautiful but understated.

From the ones I picked up in 2023, my favorite was Suqqu no. 12 Kurumizome, which I’ve used as much as my second favorite from this year, Tom Ford’s Hazy Sensuality. I just find the Suqqu no. 12 a bit more intriguing because I can get a very soft, everyday wearable yet beautifying look out of it as well as a smoky eye look for going out, eventhough it’s only a 4-pan palette! The green shimmer shade is such a great eyeshadow. I totally underestimated this quad before putting it on. Both of these also have a decent longevity.

Few palettes this year, but I did like my W7 My Atlantis (Huda Rose Quartz dupe I think) I purchased in a discount shop. I didn’t see anything this year that caught my eye except Adept Cosmetics’ Arrow Inspired and Element 115 palettes. I don’t think I’ll get either for me, but perhaps the Arrow one for my daughter if it comes back in stock.
