Anastasia Sand, Beaming, and Peachy Liquid Lipsticks–NOT a pleasant experience at all (review here). (Keep in mind that I come up with questions and answer them a week or two before they go live).
1) tatcha peony lipstick: love the colour, not the texture nor the bullet shape. the bullet is evenly slanted from the middle and i find it difficult to apply to lips. cant find the right angle! weartime and comfort level were so-so.
2) chanel holiday 2019 rouge allure splendide: finally found a coral that’s more pinky which suits my skintone! BUT, i find it drying which is consistent with temptalia’s reviews of previous rouge allures ☹️
3) catrice dewy-full lips 060: gorgeous pigmented comfortable lip sheen/balm. so easy to swipe on and fulls very comfy on lips. cheapest and best of the whole lot.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Maple: BEAUTIFUL red. Lovely formula. Smells great, tastes great. Perfection.
Flower Beauty Petal Pout Lipstick in Autumn Rose: So affordable! Such a comfortable matte formula and the color is just lovely. Absolutely no complaints.
Buxom Lip Polish in Celeste. I got this mostly because it is named (sort of) after me. The color and affect are really pretty! I do wish they were a little LESS minty? or at least that the minty-ness wore off after a while, but it is a PERSISTENT mint that just won’t quit. That’s my only complaint about the Buxom lip glosses and why I only own this one. I do like it over a very lightly blotted matte nude lip.
Maple is up next on my to-wear list! I love a good red lip.
I was wearing Maple just yesterday! Great minds think alike, haha
Today, Nars Velvet Lip Glide, color Bound. Light, comfortable, just the right color for my black and plum and gray and mauve vibe today. It will wear off as I sip coffee from a travel mug and water from a metal straw, and it will leave marks on the mug and the straw, but nothing crazy. I’ll reapply before I go to parent/teacher conferences at my kids’ school later.
Yesterday, Becca Lush Lip Color Balm in Cherry Ganache. I feel great in this lipstick. It’s a darker, bolder color than I’d normally wear, and the same color in a different formula would be over the top for my weekday lifestyle, but in this forgiving formula, it just works. I’m going to rock this one a lot this winter. Looks like it’s been discontinued. Glad I grabbed it when it was 50% off at Ulta.
And when that started to wear off yesterday, it left a bit of a stain behind. Instead of reapplying the lipstick, I topped it off with Bite agave lip mask in Maple. And it looked and felt amazing.
It’s been a happy lip week for me.
I love Bound! I have a little sample size and every time I wear it I am surprised by how good it looks on me.
What a fun question!
MAC Trés Blase — A coral nude that I can actually pull off! As is the case with the other lipsticks I own from MAC’s Love Me line, this lipstick goes on creamy, doesn’t not pull into my lip lines, and does not feather outside my lip lines.
Estée Lauder Knockout Nude — Luscious, creamy nude in elegant packaging. Feels luxurious and moisturizing, makes my lips appear fuller, and lasts for hours without bleeding.
Chanel Rouge Angélique — A pretty MLBB beige, but it tends to pull into my lip lines a bit.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask – I wear this to bed most nights unless my lips feel too rough. It works quite well to preserve my lips in good shape. Not so great if my lips become even a little chapped, then I turn to Jack Black Lip balm.
Fenty Gloss Bomb in Cheeky – BEAUTIFUL! Gave my lips a very healthy looking color without being very pigmented. Lovely gold shimmer shot throughout made my lips look plush.
Nyx Earthtone Slim Lip Pencil – These are spot on perfect lip pencils to dupe MAC’s lip pencils. Even some of the more hardcore MAC SA’s know this already! This pencil lasts like iron. It isn’t creamy, yet still easy to apply. I literally have at least half of Nyx’s OG core SLP shades and use them regularly.
Estee Lauder PC in Discreet, a warm light-med rosy brown with warm undertones and was hydrating to me.
Ma S’Sexy, a med rosy brown with warm undertones that applied smoothly on lips and being an amplified felt a little hydrating.
UD Insanity, a cream peachy beige with warm undertones that applied evenly on lips.
Fenty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow: Probably my HG lip gloss. Plush, glossy, and not sticky: literally the holy grail of lip glosses. The color is great too; it flatters any look I create and leaves my lips feeling hydrated and happy. And because I have a terrible skin picking habit where I pick my lips when I’m stressed or anxious, this is the perfect product to help cover that up and keep me from picking.
Christian Audette lipstick in Beauty: Never tried this brand before but the lipstick is great. Creamy and non-drying, and a great shade of nude for my skintone. It doesn’t last as long as my other lipsticks but honestly I don’t mind reapplication because I would like to finish the lipsticks I own before they turn.
Bite Beauty lipstick in Honeycomb: My perfect nude. I have several because I use it several times a week. Non-drying, doesn’t settle into my lip lines, and made from clean ingredients. Really, what’s not to love?
I’m not interested in the lipsticks and lip liners from Mel Thompson collection with Christian Audette because the way I structure my make-up collection. But I’m on the wait list for the candle (it’s out-of-stock now), definitely going to get this to support that wonderful lady.
I should get on the waiting list as well, I was too late for the candle pre-orders and I really wanted one, the scent description sounds right up my alley! But yes, she’s so sweet and one of the few YouTube personalities I’m willing to support. 🙂
?Today: Tatcha Camellia gold spun lip balm. I’m not wearing makeup.
?Yesterday: Tatcha Camellia gold spun lip balm with Bite Beauty Lip Pencil #88 d/c’d. I’ve been doing this more frequently lately; wearing a lip balm and then colouring in very lightly with a lip pencil. I used #88 because it co-ordinated very well with my eye and cheek look and capitalizes on the cooler undertone to my lips and manages to look quite mlbb when applied sparringly over balm.
?The Day Before Yesterday: Tatcha Camellia gold spun lip balm with MAC Friend Like Me (LE) – my favourite nude lip colours are pinky beiges which lean neutral to cool or lilac. This is an inexpensive lip colour, emollient enough not to dry my lips out, but it’s more about the colour than the formula for me. A perfectly acceptable lipstick.
Yes, Tatcha Camellia lip balm is my current go to balm.
Ugh. I’ve been sick and haven’t worn makeup all week, so I hope I’m remembering right.
1) Black Moon Cosmetics Black Metals Liquid Lipstick in Immortal: The formula is comfortable, kiss-proof, doesn’t feather, and it dries down quickly. The color is beautiful, but it’s described and pictured on their site as a “blackened purple with flecks of purple and arctic blue.” On me it looks more blackened red with a slight purple shift and blue flecks, but I still like it. It’s unique.
2) Lime Crime Unicorn Lipstick in Airborne Unicorn: This was my first time wearing it. It has a really nice, long-lasting formula that applies easily. It’s a really pigmented, super-bright purple. I think it looks even brighter on the lips than the bullet appears. It somewhat accentuates the yellowness of my teeth, though. (I have transparent enamel, so the yellow dentin layer underneath is visible.)
3) Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Sheer Rapture: My go-to MLBB color of many years (since the Revolution line). It’s more sheer, and lighter than, Rapture, but not too sheer. It gives a nice, even layer of color that can be built up a little bit. It’s moisturizing. It goes with almost any look, so I wear it often. (Note: I’m very fair-skinned, and my lips have barely any color to them. The outer edges of my lips is light plummy mauve.)
Sheer Rapture is one of my favorites! I still have it in the heavy purple Revolution packaging, but I’m so close to panning it.
Feel better soon, Rachel!
Thank you, Wendy! I slept most of the day yesterday, and I’m feeling much better today. I think I’m on the mend.
1. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Smoked Za’atar. Bit of an odd color but it grew on my throughout the day. Lived up to my expectations for this formula: comfortable, hydrating, no feathering, but some transfer when eating/drinking.
2. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Notion. Great color and stays well but I really have to hydrate my lips before I wear this formula.
3. ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Hutch. Ooh, I had forgotten how much I love this shade. Such a great deep berry lip for Fall.
Today, Clinique Black Honey. A classic for a reason. I have been reaching for it a lot this fall, it’s easy to wear, comfortable, and flattering with my skin tone.
Last night, Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I know not everyone likes this but it is great for me, keeps my lips looking good. Otherwise they are prone to dryness and cracking.
Yesterday, NARS Hyde Park. I like this OKAY but it was an impulse purchase and I didn’t realize how pink it was going to turn on me. Undertones are such a pain, I really need to swatch everything before I buy because so many supposed reds are pink on me!
Urban Decay Backtalk. I like the shade on me and it is nice for a long time without drying my lips or leaving strange lines while fading.
Nars Dolce Vita also a mauve but warmer so more fitting with warmer looks or in summer and I like the formula as well
Fenty Glass bomb in Fussy It is giving my lips a nice shine without being sticky. My most use gloss at the moment.
Today, I am wearing NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Diego. The formula is pretty much a classic at this point, and of course shades like Amsterdam are pretty dang iconic, but I actually prefer the paler, softer shades. San Diego is a pale peachy nude that looks quite blotted and lovely. 9/10
Yesterday I wore Sephora Lip Stories in Labyrinth City. It is gorgeous, and I quite like it, but it does dry my lips a little bit. For the price and the overall quality, it is still worth it. 8/10
On Tuesday, I wore Lancome Cœur de Rubis, which I love love love. The brand calls it an “auburn” shade, and I guess that’s pretty accurate. It is a warm, caramel-y brown, and perfect for autumn. The formula is divine as well, and it has a very lux tube as well. 10/10
I like that you gave a number rating. I wish I’d thought of that.
Today: Colourpop Lippie Stix in Ziggie; I adore the colour and the texture but the (lack of) colourpop QC meant that mine was falling apart when i received it, sigh.
Yesterday: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Maple – lasted surprisingly well through an entire pound of wings for lunch (lol)
Day before yesterday: Nars lunar new year powermatte LL in Firework – lasted surprisingly well all day!
Technically, the very last thing I used on my lips was Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm before bed last night but since I want to name my three lippies, I am not going to count the balm!
1. Lined my lips with Charlotte Tilbury Pink Venus lip cheat and then applied Buxom Full On Lip Cream in the shade Hot Toddy. Charlotte Tilbury has one of my favorite lip liner formula’s so I use quite a few. They are easy to apply and do not tug on my lips. They are relatively smoothing to my aged lips and wear really well. They are not drying. Over the pencil I applied Buxom Full On Lip Cream in the shade Hot Toddy. I really like these lip creams. They are easy to apply without a mirror, if necessary. They are comfortable to wear and the formula is a bit thicker on the lips so they don’t slip around or travel up my lips lines. They have a minty smell and a slight tingling sensation. The CT Lip Cheat gives the Hot Toddy an ever so slightly pink undertone which is more forgiving to my skin tone.
2. Pat McGrath LuxeTrance lipstick in Beautiful Stranger. Love the formula so much and would love to have all the shades minus the super pale ones. These are comfortable to wear, last the longest of any lipstick I use and are very forgiving to my lip lines. They have been talked and written about a lot so not much else to say.
3. MAC Night Moth lip liner and the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in the shade, Cruella on top. In the top five of my favorite red shades and a very comfortable formula to wear, although a little more matte than I would love. I almost always put a balm on either over or under. I have pretty much all of the shades in the Nars except the more nude/light shades. I do regret buying one of them, “Pu…y Control. I love the shade but just can’t deal with the name. I used the Night Moth to give the red a little “purple/fuschia” shade, somewhat mimicking the above mentioned unwearable shade but in a slightly darker version. Night Moth is my most used lip liner although with so many new formula’s out there I have other formula’s I prefer, these days. I have gone through at least 4 pencils of Night Moth.
Deborah,
I’ve always been curious about Night moth, now it really got my attention.
In fact I have quite a few stuff I want to buy from MAC and MUFE. They’re just so reliable.
Thanks!
I love Night Moth so much. It is a very deep, dark shade so not to everyone’s taste but I use it so much either alone or under/over other lip colours when I want to deepen them up. The MAC lip pencils are not very creamy and some people are bothered by the fact that they are a drier formula. I don’t find them uncomfortable to wear and since they are a little drier, they don’t move around on my lips. I have mentioned on the blog before, but I am a real lip worrier and cannot seem to quit so a drier lip pencil wears better for me. I frequently just take Night Moth and put a little on my lips and then tap it out to make a stain. I also really love it worn under Rouge Bunny Rouge Sheer Lipstick in the shade, “Perfume of His Gaze”, the perfect combo. Hope you have the opportunity to try them sometime.

I only own and use MAC lipsticks, Satin and Matte formulas. So the review is the same for all; I just love that the formula is matte (I don’t like shinny, glossy formulas), long lasting, but still comfortable and somewhat moisturizing. The review below is mainly on the color / how it looks on me.
1) MAC Spirit – Nice color, but definitily once I finish it I’m going to re-purchase Velvet Teddy; it work better as a brownish nude/my-lips-but-better
2) MAC Photo – I just love this color, and it keeps growing on me. On my lips is looks like a greyish dark chocolate, surprisingly neutral, almost cool toned; it’s bold but not in you face, quite flattering.
3) MAC Mehr – I’m still searching for my perfect mauvish nude/my-lips-but-better (my lips are naturally quite pigmented, with mauve/purple hints), and while this is nice on me, it’s not perfect.
*Bonus item: I always apply before gym and sleep the Clinique Pep-Start Pout Restoring Night Mask which does an amazing job at hydrating my lips.
Mac Marrakesh- such a great color, My undertones make it warmer than it looks on the tube.
Nars Hidden Pleasure lip balm with Lisa Eldridge Love of my life- it gives me a very healthy look. It gives the lipstick more transparency.
Tatcha lip balm.
1. Smashbox Legendary Be Legendary lipstick (I need to get another tube – I’m surprised I’ve only got one!) It is a brightening, easy to wear red and it looks fabulous even as it fades!
2. Smashbox Red Rage Legendary Lipstick (I’ve got 3 of this shade on the go – bathroom, purse and school bag!) My “go to” red (hence the 3 tubes) – hydrating, comfortable to wear, great shade.
3. UD Love Drunk: I was so disappointed initially as I thought the “comfort matte” name meant something – well, it doesn’t. I love the colour but not the texture or feel (it really feels dry). What has saved it for me is the 4th item in this “3 products” list – Elizabeth Arden lip primer. That stuff makes Love Drunk feel wonderful and look less dry on my lips without negatively affecting wear time or anything else.
Clinique Plum Pop lipstick – a creamy medium tone plummy pink that lasts 3-4 hours, fades nicely, and does not dry out my lips. It adds a pop of color to my face and isn’t too much. This one is growing on me.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balm with SPF 15 and Vitamin E – perfect under lipstick and by itself. My Holy Grail (and only) lip balm
Mac Spice it Up Lustre Lipstick – a plummy, brownish sheer berry that is subtle and very flattering. However, even with lip balm underneath, it dries out my lips by the end of the day. I will keep on wearing it and replace it (again) when it runs out.
The last three lip products I wore were all lipsticks: CP Tea Thyme, MAC Fresh Moroccan and Sephora Festival Lights.
Colourpop Just Tint Lippie Tint in Gimme Smore. Decent color. Not great staying power but that’s as expected bc it’s a tinted lip balm. OK moisture. Worst part is its scent. Combo of floral and fruit. Not a fan. But I love a nude and the convenience of a lip crayon
KKW Flammable lip gloss. Love the shade. It’s a gloss so again not the best staying power but that’s ok. I like the orange packaging. But I will say the packaging is a bit cheap for an $18 gloss. I just expect a little better than Essence packaging but the product is decent. The best part is the color of the gloss. I’m a sucker for orange lip products!
Shiseido Gel Tint Lip Balm in Juniper. Sleek weighty packaging. Moisturizing. Love the color. Want to try more from Shiseido. Def worth the price imo!
1. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquid Lipstick in Marsala – I’ve heard folks say this one is patchy, and it’s not on me, as long as I apply carefully. I love the rich burgundy hue and that my lips never feel dried out. I have lots of Bite lipsticks (liquid and bullet) and while this isn’t one I reach for the most often, it’s a beautiful color for fall.
2. A shade that I am testing for my own lip line that is halfway between a tinted balm and a sheer lipstick. This one is for an upcoming collaborative project and it’s a neutral mid-tone pink with very subtle yellow undertones. Smells like red velvet cake. I like it, I think it’s just about ready for production. It’s not really a shade I’ll reach for, but I know it will be in the comfort zone for a lot of people.
3. Howl Cosmetics lipstick in Not Just For Peoples, a rusty orange-red. I miss Howl so much. They were the rare small-batch indie that actually made an incredible bullet lipstick. I can’t really do matte liquid lips, which are pretty much standard indie fare, so it was very nice to find a formula I loved so much. I’ll use this one ’til it’s a nubbin.
?Beauty Pie Wondergloss Lip Oil – easy, hydrating, not sticky or tacky
?Nars Lipstick in Tolede – Panned this, this is my perfect nude, will be replaced in a Sephora sale
?Bite Beauty clear lip liner – really sad they are discontinuing this, it is the best liner ever. No fuss or muss.
EOS Vampire Kiss lip balm: very underwhelming, no color payoff unless you load it on and then it’s an unflattering grey and not berry at all. I have a few unopened (it was very limited edition) that I’m going to sell.
Aritaum Ginger Sugar Lip Mask: saves my lips in winter and it snowed this week, so out it came. Very thick and sticky but absolutely essential.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in Babe: bought a sample size and I’m underwhelmed. It ages me terribly because of the color which doesn’t resemble the swatch at all on the lips. I think I needed to go a shade or two lighter, or just stick with Colourpop Blotted Lip.
