It’s been a while since I’ve change anything in my skincare routine, but a few years ago I added using serums. I don’t know if it’s made much of a change, but it feels good. 😉
Probably adding hypochlorus spray after cleansing (though I don’t do this all the time – I’m often in too big a hurry to let it air dry!). Now that the sunny weather is here and the UV index is high, I’m adding a higher SPF sunscreen, which I do every year. But that’s about it, I think.
Just a couple little things; like changing an essence (Tatcha) for ceramidin (Dr. Jart), then adding the tiger grass serum (Dr. Jart) to help with mild redness. Problem is I’m not sure which to use first so I’ve stopped using them together. Plus after a couple months I’ve seen no real improvement with the tiger grass. I even tried the cream and it was absolutley horrible.
Once done the tiger grass I’ll likely just stick to my comfort zone, The Ordinary, I like: Buffet Serum, Rosehip Seed Oil, and 1% Retinol in Squalane for night.
I’m pretty happy with IT Cosmetics day and night creams, so I’ll stick with them for now.
Getting regular treatments at my derms office. I’ve added in home micro-needling and pared down to serums and toners with actives and just cost effective moisturizer. I’ve also cut back to only using very gentle cleansers. I used to use moisturizers with actives, but they didn’t really do anything for my skin so now I’m making sure actives get sunk in well and just use a basic-feel good moisturizer. I’ve also changed to using mineral sunscreen almost exclusively. I’ve got NC30/35 golden skin and it’s nice to see mineral sunscreens with tints that absorb well and leave a nice finish. I’m currently enjoying ISDIN active sunscreen.
Last major change was letting go of “hype products.” Vitamin C and high concentrations of Niacinimide are not for everyone. As beloved as Zinc is in the sunscreen world – it’s also not for everybody.
I started using Supergoop products. So good. The primer and eye sunscreen as well as the mineral powder sunscreen have been great and don’t irritate my rosacea.
My skin has become more “normal” and less oily as my skin has seemed to finally acclimate to my tretinoin. So I no longer use the tretinoin daily and I also need to use the things I use for zits less often. So some days I find for the first time since the onset of puberty Im able to just use moisturizer at night and moisturizer/spf in the day.
Face, neck and décolleté has remained the same but I am adding things here and there for after-shower body care (oils, serums).
I use an organic super light lotion just a dot dot and a dot….. upper face only…….. night same thing only its a bit more emollient……I only wash pm to remove eye make up…… a face soap that is super basic and in expensive ………. rarely wear my pdr face make up bare minerals……. and if so only on cheeks and temples… so hardly need any soap…….. my super basic routine is a must for my sensitive skin….. also I don’t like a bunch of ingredients I don’t know what they do on my skin! The more basic the better for me.
I’ve been using the EL Nutritious pomegranate skincare and am impressed with it. The cleanser, you only need a tiny amount, and it also exfoliates. The “radiant energy lotion” toner that you pat on with fingers. I wasted a lot of product trying to apply it with a cotton ball the first time, and learned to dash a couple of small splashes into my hand and pat on with fingers. And the cream moisturizer, again you only need a tiny amount. So I’m using 3 products in the line, about 6 weeks now. Worth the splurge. A delight to use and my skin has never looked better. I didn’t wear makeup during pandemic, and haven’t tried using the EL pomegranate with makeup yet. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll just use the EL pomegranate at night and when not wearing makeup.
I guess the last major change I made to my skincare routine was to add a dedicated HA serum to my repetoire. I started using The Inkey List’s HA and I haven’t looked back. I could just feel it make a difference to my mature aged skin.
I get the allure box monthly and it has a lot of skincare which I really enjoy. I have found some interesting products and some that I would absolutely repurchase. The biggest thing I switched up is adding a facial and a skin peel at least once or twice a year. You can spend a lot of money on products but something about going to see a professional to get you back on track makes a tremendous difference. I also realized I don’t need to use a retinol every night.. you have to kinda switch things up. I also now layer my eye creams with an oil.. like emu.. extra benefit is my eye lashes are long think and look great without using lashes all the time
Just a few little adjustments, like: switching from adding Marula oil to my nighttime moisturizer over to rosehip oil, adding Youth To The People Eye Dream Cream to my nighttime regimen, and doing LOTS of different things to save my hands from eczema, or whatever is going on, including now wearing some thin white cotton gloves overnight after slathering my hands in the Aveeno Eczema formula hand cream.
I periodically change an individual serum or the type of physical sunscreen in my routine, but the steps and types of products don’t change. About 6 months ago, I finally convinced my husband (who suffers from rosacea) to use a niacinamide serum (which has done wonders for my rosacea over the years), and he is ecstatic about the improvement in his skin. He loves it when our friends tell him that he looks younger! I’ve been working on him about using a moisturizer, but that seems to be a more difficult sell.
