What was the last launch that disappointed you?

MAC x Nicopanda – I just can’t get over the quality of the eyeshadow/cheek palettes. (I’m also writing this answer in late April, so there might be a worse launch between then and now…)

Because I don’t buy collections – only the occasional single item from a release – as bad as that Nicopanda one was, it didn’t “disappoint” me because I had no idea who or what Nicopanda was and the promo photos alone had me thinking there would be absolutely nothing in it to interest me. BUT – I really wanted the one Jade Jagger eyeshadow quad and it wasn’t available “in store”. Even after it sold out online and was restocked, so you might think they’d bow to its popularity and make it available in store, it was still only online. So I didn’t get and THAT disappointed me.

For me it was MAC x Jeremy Scott. (I wasn’t anticipating anything for the NIcopanda collection) While never having experienced the period, I have quite a soft spot for the 80’s America as many of my favorite movies come from that era. This was the most hyped up I was about a beauty product launch and right after the launch everything just fell flat. They had a really good idea and blew it.

No kidding! SO SAD! There were a number of the older formulation I’d been waiting to buy since they’re so pricey. Oh, well 🙁 I’ve got most of the ones I really wanted, so can’t complain too much.

There certainly is something about the elevated disappointment, when you laser on to a theme that speaks to you, and the product leaves you thinking,oh h3ll no, not gonna buy??. I was bummed at Mac with both Jeremy and Nicopanda, but that bummed is r/t being poor execution of interesting color stories. But I was crushed that kvd did injustice to JW and the late, great Divine. ‘Course, was already annoyed that kvd had rechristened a Nosferatu as Nahz fur atoo or whatever. Now people won’t even google that great early German Expressionist horror film….because popularizing and referencing the name is lost.

Kate you are so right !!!! I was so disappointed in Kat Von Divine. I really like her make up line. But not this one UGH!!!!

NarsxErdem – I loved the concept and was super psyched for this! But the colors didn’t end up speaking to me so I didn’t buy anything. I’m glad I saw swatches here because the lipsticks were so much more cool toned than I had expected. I guess that’s what I get from hearing about it via a really filtered IG post haha

The Tom Ford Soleil palettes have been meh. I’m ready for another quad with the formulas like Honeymoon or Nude Dip, or some new quads in the regular formula. Love the packaging of the Soleils, though.

Denise Avatar

Yes so right Pearl. And i am so annoyed, because I bought the bronzer duo and blushes. Beautiful packing. Gorgeous compact. But a no go.

I don’t buy a bad launched item.
I wait for Christine’s review before buying….except SUQqu of course.
I love all Suqqu’s eyeshadow.
I wait to see the review…even if it is limited.

Oh man, because I was sooo excited for it and had my expectations a little too elevated in anticipation of getting it: MAC x Jeremy Scott Collection. That one was a devastating failure of epic proportions! I just couldn’t believe how BAD that eyeshadow palette was. Like, how exactly did that thing make it past R&D and QC????
Not feeling so good about the KVD 10th anniversary collection, either.

I generally don’t get into ‘collections’ because they are often unavailable here in Aus for me to try, but the MAC and Too Faced ones have been disappointing for different reasons: MAC because it has been so bad and TF because of the names of their shades, even though I did like the palette.
The MUFE reformulations were very sad too.

Nars x Erderm. Not because the quality was awful but because I liked the concept but nothing really drew me in. I think my personal collection is big enough now that I’ve become much pickier with what I like, and because I don’t tend to pick up collections things really need to wow me if I’m going to contemplate buying them.

Honestly, most new releases are kind of disappointing these days, but I think that is because of the sheer amount of make up out there. It’s not easy to come up with something that no one has done before because it’s all been done! Also, how many different versions of a warm-tone eyeshadow palette do you need?
